Lanfear’s sudden disappearance had bothered Liandrin more than she cared to admit, so when she found her hiding in the wilderness, all wide pained eyes and trembling nervousness, she understood instantly.
“Someone bound you…”
There’s a half-breath, husky, weak, broken and a nod. The outdoor meeting had already been over by the time that Lanfear had been found and Liandrin risks touching a soft, frozen cheek. Lanfear will get sick out here she thinks, so she brings her with her.
“Come on, we’re going to sort this out… somewhere warm.”
In the end they find Liandrin’s hidden home, a small hut she had built herself to hide from Moiraine and all the stresses of being an Aes Sedai. Lanfear’s eyes are sparkling with tears even as she settles where Liandrin indicates. The door locks, the fire flickers higher when Liandrin first lights it then adds more wood to it, her eyes fixed on the wood until she’s sure it won’t roll out of the fire.
“How did it happen?”
A tremble, a sob and Liandrin knows, nodding just once.
“Alright, so we’ll get you warm then I’ll see if I can’t unbind the bitches work…”
They are alone here, safe and warm and Lanfear falls asleep in her arms. Later, much later, Liandrin will settle to work on fixing what has happened.
