Stomach Bug

Summary:

Shotaro wakes up sick in the middle of the night

Notes:

Hello this is based on the prompt a commenter left on another work, "Can you write about Shotaro getting a stomach infection and one night he had such a high fever that he randomly starts saying things and he ends up throwing up onto his bed and he was too weak to say anything."

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Shotaro woke up in the middle of the night and at first he was confused as to why he was awake when suddenly these massive stomach cramps hit him. Shotaro groaned weakly trying to move or call for help or really do anything but his body just felt so heavy. Gathering all of his energy he tried to call out for help but no noise left his mouth. Giving up Shotaro felt himself fading back into unconsciousness.

The next time Shotaro woke up he felt like he was being boiled alive. He was sweating like crazy and his hair was soaked like he had just taken a shower. Gathering his strength Shotaro forced himself to roll onto his side. Peering through the darkness he was able to see Sungchan lying on a bed across the room. Desperately Shotaro tried to call out and say something but instead, he let out a choked-up gag before he felt bile burning his throat. Panicking Shotaro tried to move to sit up so he didn’t puke on his bed but his body refused to cooperate. With one final gag Shotaro threw up on his pillow. Disgusted Shotaro tried to move away but all he managed was to knock the vomit-covered pillow to the floor. Satisfied that it was no longer in bed with Shotaro felt himself drifting off once again.

“ Hyung Hyung, are you okay?” A voice shouted far away. Upset at being woken up, Shotaro groaned. The room was so hot and stuffy Shotaro felt he was dying “Who turned up the heat,” he complained, scrunching his face up.

“Did you hear that?” Seunghan questioned, looking at Sungchan.

“Hyung hyung can say that again?” Sungchan asked not sure what Shotaro had said.

“Hot too hot,” Shotaro whined weakly trying to throw his covers off.

Seunghan and Sungchan watched as Shotaro whined, mumbling incoherent things to himself. “What do we do?” Seunghan asked, panicking at how sick Shotaro seemed.

“He has a fever and threw up at some point last night I don’t know when though,” Sungchan explained

“We need to cool him down,” Wonbin stated, peering at Shotaro who was weakly struggling against the covers.

“Can you go fill the tub with room temperature water? I’ll carry Shotaro to the bathroom,” Sungchan directed the other two.

“Yeah, also I’ll ask one of the others to get meds for Shotaro,” Seunghan agreed leaving the room with Wonbin

Shotaro felt hands on his body grabbing and moving him. Not liking the feeling Shotaro tried to stop them and say that he was fine instead all that out was a series of weak whines. “Shh shh it’s okay hyung you’re okay,” Sungchan assured, trying to move Shotaro as gently as possible.

Shotaro didn’t understand what was happening next as everything was hot and hazy and all he wanted to do was sleep but they wouldn’t let him. He was dragged out of bed and carried throughout the dorm before being dunked in freezing water. Shotaro tried to scream desperately fighting against the hands holding in the water. “This seems cruel, hyung,” Seunghan commented, anxiously watching as Shotaro thrashed around in confusion and distress.

“It's supposed to help lower the fever,” Sungchan answered, feeling guilty at Shotaro’s clear discomfort.

“I think we should take him out,” Seunghan said.

“Yeah, can you go grab some dry clothes while I dry him off,” Sungchan agreed, reaching to pull Shotaro out of the tub.

Shotaro felt himself being pulled from the water and then hands grabbing and pulling his clothes off of him. Sitting floor Shotaro dazedly let himself be stripped and redressed the fever leaving him confused. As much as he hated it Shotaro felt a bit better after the bath, he was still hazy and way too hot but it no longer felt like he was literally on fire. A moment later there were once again hands on him picking up but this time he was aware enough to realize that it was Sungchan who was carrying him. “I’m going to put him on the couch so we can watch him. Also, his bed is covered in vomit,” Sungchan warned, carrying Shotaro out to the living room.

“Sounds good, Eunseok hyung was making some porridge for him to eat with the medicine,” Seunghan agreed.

“Hyung you need to eat this so we can give you medicine,” Sohee explained, trying to coax Shotaro to eat.

Shotaro whined weakly trying to shove the food away. The idea of eating right now was absolutely horrible. “I don’t wanna” Shotaro pouted.

Sohee watched as Shotaro shook his head before making a bunch of nonsensical sounds. At first, RIIZE had thought he was speaking Japanese because he was sick but at this point, they had realized it was nonsense that none of them could understand.“I’m going to be honest none of us can understand what you are saying hyung. Now please open your mouth,” Sohee begged.

Sulking Shotaro opened his mouth allowing Sohee to feed him some porridge. Shotaro managed to eat five spoonfuls before he had to stop. Shotaro felt his stomach cramp and he knew what was happening next “Vomit, vomit” Shotaro slurred.

Sohee stared confused at what Shotaro was trying to say but looking at how Shotaro clutched his stomach he figured it was nothing good. “Eunseok hyung can you bring the garbage can,” Sohee called.

Eunseok hurried into the room carrying the garbage can, barely handing it to Shotaro before he doubled over and puked. “Oh oh no,” Eunseok said awkwardly, patting Shotaro’s head.

“Hyung, do you mind getting Sungchan hyung or someone else?” Sohee asked awkwardly, watching as Shotaro threw up a second time.

“Why don’t I stay with Shotaro for now and you go find Sungchan? “ Eunseok suggested, sitting next to Shotaro on the couch.

Nodding Sohee rushed out of the room to try and find Sungchan. Sohee started with the most obvious and checked the kitchen only to find Anton sitting at the table alone. “ Sohee hyung is Shotaro hyung okay?” Anton asked.

“He threw up from the porridge. I think we need to take him to the doctor but I don’t know where Sungchan hyung is,” Sohee explained.

“Oh Sungchan hyung is in their room cleaning the vomit from earlier,” Anton said.

Sohee found Sungchan talking on the phone while remaking Shotaro’s bed. Not wanting to interrupt Sohee stood in the door waiting for him to finish. Hanging up the call Sungchan turned and noticed Sohee standing in the doorway. “Oh hey, Sohee is everything Okay?” Sungchan asked, worried something had happened in the couple minutes he had been away from Shotaro.

“He threw up again,” Sohee said.

“Ah, shit okay. Thanks for telling me I just called our manager and he is on the way to take Shotaro to the hospital for treatment,” Sungchan explained, hurrying back to the living room.

Sungchan walked back into the living room only to see Shotaro curled up on the floor and a very concerned Eunseok watching him from the couch. Worried Sungchan walked over and knelt down next to Shotaro. Reaching out to touch Shotaro Sungchan immediately noticed that his temperature seemed to have gone back up. “ Taro, are you okay?” Sungchan asked.

In response, Shotaro let out a weak groan curling further in on himself. “Eunseok can you go get a wet washcloth? Our manager is on the way to take him to the hospital. When he arrives can either you or Wonbin help me take him down?” Sungchan asked.

Eunseok nodded, rushing to get a washcloth. Coming back into the room Eunseok handed Sungchan the washcloth which he placed on the back of Shotaro’s neck hoping to cool him down.

A couple of minutes later Sungchab’s phone dinged letting them know their manager was there. “Wonbin, come help me,” Sungchan called, removing the washcloth from Shotaro’s neck. Between Sungchan, Eunseok, and Wonbin they were able to lift Shotaro so that he was being held by Wonbin and Sungchan. Sungchan and Wonbin carefully began moving out of the apartment and through the halls, with Suenghan following carrying a plastic bag in case Shotaro threw up again. Finally, the four of them arrived in the parking garage where their manager was waiting. After taking one look their manager helped them situate Shotaro in the car before telling all of them to go to the dorm as he would call them later with an update.

While luckily they didn’t have any schedules for the whole day, RIIZE felt their worry increasing with each passing minute that their manager didn’t call. Finally, after almost three hours Sungchan’s phone rang. Sungchann immediately answered and placed the phone on speaker so everyone could. “Sorry, I couldn’t call earlier. Shotaro is being discharged now he has an infection in his stomach lining which is what was causing the fever and vomiting. The doctors have prescribed an antibiotic so hopefully he will be better soon till then though he can only really have light food like porridge and rice,” Their manager explained.

All of the members let out a sigh of relief glad to know that Shotaro would be okay,

The sick of them anxiously awaited Shotaro’s return to the dorm and 45 minutes later the front door beeped before being pushed open. Their manager walked in supporting a dazed Shotaro, seeing them Wonbin and Sungchan both rushed forward to take Shotaro and guide him to the couch. After making sure Shotaro was fine on the couch they all turned to their manager. “He will be fine, he needs to rest and take his antibiotics,” Their manager assured the anxious members.
