Work Text:
Before his debut with Heartsteel, it was almost impossible to keep the explosive reaction Kayn had to a low level what with his efforts in his old band thrown aside because the members couldn’t handle him and Rhaast, another one that went violent when kept at bay for longer than the patience of a toddler. That didn’t mean that you always held him back from any violent reactions; he was rightfully angry for the betrayal and how abrupt things had ended, so sometimes you let him express it in ways that wouldn’t completely destroy his reputation—the hits it took was already enough and you’d like to minimize it as much as possible, for Kayn’s sake, too.
His passion was his fire, igniting the light in his drive for what he believed he excelled at—music. It was the noise of his heart tuned to perfection in his eyes, and to lose what gave him the opportunities to do so turned his once aflame tracks into burnt shade, all to diss his former colleagues. Posting lyrics were fine, there was no proof anyway that they were more than prose the fans could inspect and dissect all they want, but to actually leak a verse was too risky on his name right now, so it was up to you to lay him down low before things escalated. Sure, Kayn didn’t appreciate the thought, but as much as you hated saying it to him, it really was ‘for his own good’—and for your sanity, because if push came to shove, you weren’t sure if you’d be able to handle cases and Kayn’s sour mood to boot.
Soon, the lyrics died down to a somber ballad, unsure of any emotion to attach for fear of scrutiny—when he’d finally understood how much could crack and fall at any public act he makes—from fans he was starting to distance himself from. No more were there leaked suspicious chat screenshots, no more were there obvious diss lyrics posted on social media, no more were there spreading rumors about the members, just zero contact, cut off all of a sudden.
And while it was another abrupt ending to the point of view of the fans, it wasn’t exactly so in the point of view for both you and Kayn—it took so long to get here, to the limbo or ‘what now?’ of both of your lives. While he wasn’t sure what was next for him—not exactly having the ‘leave the band’ scenario considered in his life long plans—you were.
With his love for music taking a blow as well after the recent events, your goal throughout your filed leave or break was to set the fire again of his passion, to rekindle what was lost in the long run. In his old band, he was the outcast, the one that didn’t belong, but that didn’t mean he didn’t belong anywhere. There must be some place out there for him, and how else would you both reach it if you stayed in one spot?

After debuting with Heartsteel, it was almost impossible to keep the explosive reaction Kayn had to a low level what with his excitement pouring out of him like waves, the tides bursting out whenever you even mentioned his involvement with the new band. It was better than his old one, is what he’d first assured you of, and with their acceptance of Rhaast it practically sealed the deal from your caution as well. The ideas that you once used to hear spewing out of you boyfriend’s mouth were now in two times speed, the excitement of being with people who understood him and the way his mind works—and using it to its full potential, another key factor that you were eyeing for in any bands he came across—turning your feelings ablaze as well at Kayn’s contentment.
Finally, the tempo in his life is at a fixed pace, an unshakable one no matter how fast or slow it goes—your support running the engines of his fireplace, something he never ever would say to you out loud, and the support of his new bandmates and newfound fans backing him up as well driving the burnt out wick of his love for music to a blazing fire that scorched the stage.
