Grandma to be?

Summary:

"Put that aside for now, Sesshomaru. Tell me, when will you grace your long neglected Mother a grandchild or two?" Sesshomaru stared at her in silence and Rin’s face turned a bright red.

He’d always hated her teasing growing up, and he still hated it.

Notes:

One of my many prompts that have been marinating :D

Also because I love the dynamic between Sesshomaru and his mom. But this is like, how I imagine it to be when the world isn’t ending or Rin isn’t dead •_•

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The wind blew through Rin's hair and Sesshomaru's fur as he leaped through the sky, going higher and higher. He wondered if Rin would pass out soon from the change in air and altitude. "Rin, are you okay?" He asked. Rin hummed as she gripped onto his fur, letting the wind blow around her hair behind her.

A few seconds later, Sesshomaru was approaching the palace. Rin was still in amazement. She hasn't seen the palace in years. Not since she was 8. Sesshomaru's mother was standing at the edge of the palace plane, looking up at them with her usual amused smile.

Sesshomaru landed and crouched, letting Rin slide down his fur and getting back on solid ground. Rin laughed, "Wow! That was so fun Lord Sesshomaru!" A smile graced Rin's features and Sesshomaru looked at her softly. He always adored her smile. He would never say or admit it, though.

"Mother," Sesshomaru greeted in his usual tone. Inukimi stared at him, stealing glances at the human girl accompanying her son. "Sesshomaru, why have you graced me with a visit this time?" She asked. "Mother, this is Rin." Inukimi cut him off, "Yes, I know. I remember when she came with your little group and I had to revive her with the meido stone," Inukimi says with her fingers touching her cheek as she closed her eyes in nostalgia.

Sesshomaru stared at his mother in annoyance but continued, "Rin will be my bride." Sesshomaru finished. Inukimi stared at Sesshomaru with her smile before looking at Rin. "Do you wish to marry my son, girl?" She asked. Rin stared at Inukimi before smiling, "Yes! I wish to be with Lord Sesshomaru forever!" Rin admits with delight. "Very well," Inukimi says, closing her eyes. Rin glanced at Sesshomaru and asks for their reason of being there. "I need to get something," he says plainly.

Inukimi is staring at them again. Sesshomaru looked back at his mother, wondering why she wasn't moving or going to get the item he wanted. The two were having a silent conversation, one that Rin could not understand for once, curiously.

"Put that aside for now, Sesshomaru. Tell me, when will you grace your long neglected Mother a grandchild or two?" Sesshomaru stared at her in silence and Rin exploded, her face flushing with a bright red. "Oh? What's wrong, you're going to be with her are you not?" Sesshomaru glared at his mother and Rin was cupping her face, Inukimi's words having sent her into overdrive.

She was 16 now, almost 17, of course she knew about sex. Kaede had taught it to her during her stay in the village, and Lady Mother was it awkward. "Mother." Sesshomaru said, his tone starting to release a bit of a bark as he got more agitated, not wanting to be there any longer. "What's wrong my son? Are you embarrassed perhaps?" Sesshomaru said nothing as his gaze hardened. "Or perhaps you do not wish to see your relatives? My, maybe I should call them to let them know of this joyous news," Inukimi teased. She laughed before turning and Sesshomaru huffed softly. His mother's antic had never changed, even several centuries later.

Inukimi returned shortly after and when she was close enough, she extended her hand. Sesshomaru stared at it, waiting for his mother to say whatever she had to say before he could take it without complaint. "Here. I certainly never thought the day would come when you would be asking for or even needing this. How you've grown." Inukimi gave a close eyed smile and Sesshomaru took the kanzashi pin from her hand.

Sesshomaru turned to Rin. "Rin, here." He gave her the kanzashi pin, and when she held it, it transformed. "Oh!" Rin exclaimed. "Lord Sesshomaru, just what is this?" She asked, holding the kanzashi transformed ribbon in her hands. Its patterns resembled that of Sesshomaru's kimono. "It's one of the family's treasures. It's given to the son of the head of the house once he has found a bride, and it will transform to what best suits the woman." Inukimi informed.

Rin looked up, still amazed. "Wow... then, what was yours my lady?" Rin asked curiously. "Hmm, mine turned into that kanzashi pin you were previously holding." Inukimi said with a smile. "Rin, we're leaving." Sesshomaru said. Rin turned to the man beside her, "Yes!" Rin quickly grabbed a piece of her hair and wrapped the ribbon around it, now donning her small one sided pony tail again.

"I wish you peace. Do come by again," Inukimi said, looking at the both of them. "Yes! Goodbye my Lady!" Rin said as Sesshomaru transformed. He huffed and Rin got on, Inukimi watching from the palace plane as they leapt into the clouds, going wherever they were travelling to next.

"That boy seems to have changed. He is much like his father now." Inukimi said to herself.

Notes:

I love Inukimi/Sesshomaru’s mother. Her character is just so 🤌

Also I’m aware Sesshomaru can’t or doesn’t talk in his dog from but let’s just ignore that •_•

I also don’t think demons actually get married/have weddings, it’s more like a “oh yeah this is my wife”. Unless it’s like a formality or sumn like what maybe happened with Tōga and Inukimi, where they maybe got married since it was arranged or for the purpose of carrying on the bloodline or wtv. Anyway I had Sesshomaru say Rin was his bride despite them in theory not being married yet because I couldn’t find any other words and “mate” is kinda weird

For the part where in the text it says “Lady Mother was it awkward” I put Lady Mother since that’s typically what I’ve seen them use instead of oh god/boy, and stuff cause they’ve never said “oh god” and oh gosh/boy etc didn’t seem to fit to me and I know lady mother doesn’t really make sense but I have a strange ocd when it comes to things being as close to the canon as possible
