Work Text:
Nikolai and Fyodor waited patiently in the hallway, waiting for Sigma to come out of his bedroom. The two of them already had their Halloween costumes on with Nikolai going as an over eccentric rainbow clown (which Fyodor despised) and Fyodor going as a ghost (a sheet ghost to be specific- Fyodor didn’t want to dress up and Nikolai forced him to wear something). They were waiting for their son to come out, having stated that he wanted to get ready himself, like every three year old does.
Nikolai tapped on the bedroom door. “Sig, how are you doing in there?”
“I’m almost done!”
Fyodor shrugged when Nikolai turned around and looked at him. He let Sigma pick out his costume without Nikolai being around so it could be a surprise for him. He pulled Nikolai back, making sure that there was space for Sigma to open the door and step out of his room once he was ready.
“Um, Dad, I need help!”
Fyodor snickered, shaking his head. He pressed a quick kiss to Nikolai’s cheek, before opening the door and sliding inside the room, making sure that his husband wasn’t able to get a sneak peek at their son’s costume.
Nikolai tapped his foot impatiently, crossing his arms and drumming his fingers against them. He hated not knowing what Sigma had picked out for his costume, especially because he had wanted to be the one to take him costume shopping. Ever since they had moved to Japan, learned about Halloween, and adopted Sigma, he was much more invested in the holiday and its creativity and frights. He knew that trick-or-treating wasn’t a huge thing in Japan, but there was one neighborhood nearby their apartment that they did know of that would hand out candy to kids that came by that were dressed up.
“Alright, are you ready, Kolya?” Fyodor asked as he pushed the door open a crack, peeking into the hallway to see him.
“Yes!” Nikolai clapped his hands together, excited by being able to finally see what Sigma chose to go as for Halloween.
Fyodor held Sigma’s hand as he stepped out of the room.
Nikolai smiled as he picked up his little lion cub, pushing pieces of the mane out of Sigma’s face so he could see him. “You look adorable.”
Sigma giggled as he buried his face in his dad’s shoulder.
“He’s supposed to be a ferocious lion, Kolya.”
Nikolai set Sigma down, letting him show off his costume, which was mostly just a lion onesie with the mane and ears being attached to the hood.
“There’s even a tail!” Sigma spun around, swaying side to side to let the tail swish back and forth.
“That’s awesome, Sig!” Nikolai bent down, patting Sigma’s head. “Are you ready to go get some candy?”
“Yes!”

Sigma swung back and forth in his dads arms as they walked a few steps, then allowed Sigma to jump and they would swing him forward. He was more than excited to be going out and going trick-or-treating again. He didn’t remember much from the previous year, only remembering that his dads went as some couple thing and he was in a duck costume. He wanted to be able to get some candy and have some sweets.
“Alright, Sigma, here’s the first house.” Fyodor motioned toward one of the houses that they were walking towards, his sheet coming up with his arm lifting.
Sigma started to run up to the door before he heard his dad.
“You’re forgetting something.”
Sigma turned back around, gasping when he saw his Halloween pail in Nikolai’s hand still. He ran back to his dad, taking it from him.
“Remember to use your manners,” Fyodor called as Sigma ran back up to the house.
Sigma tapped on the door, bouncing on his toes from the excitement of being able to get his first piece of candy for the night. He smiled as the door opened, an older ladying appearing on the other side of it.
“Trick-or-treat!” Sigma cheered, holding his pail out to her.
“Aww, you’re such a cute, little lion. Here you go.” She placed a treat into his pail, waving at him.
“Thank you!” He ran back to his dads, crashing into Nikolai.
“Awesome, Sigma! You got your first piece of candy.” Nikolai picked him up, waving at the lady as she shut her door.
Fyodor walked next to Nikolai as they went from house to house, waiting for Sigma to go retrieve some candy and sweets from the people in the neighborhood. He reached out, holding Nikolai’s hand. They walked around the neighborhood for about an hour, admiring the decorations and lights all around them.
“You look ridiculous in that get up, Kolya.”
“I think you look boo-rific in your costume,” Nikolai laughed, knowing that Fyodor grimaced at the pun.
“I think someone is starting to get a little tired though.” Fyodor directed Nikolai’s attention to Sigma, watching him stumble a bit as he walked back to them, a pail full of candy and looking exhausted from using so much energy all evening.
“Sigma, I think it’s time to go home,” Nikolai said, taking his bucket from him.
“No,” Sigma whined as he leaned against Nikolai. “I’m okay.”
“Sigma, you’re exhausted.” Fyodor took the sheet off of him, folding it up a bit before handing it to Nikolai. He picked Sigma up, pulling his hood back. He let Sigma’s head rest against his shoulder, stroking his fingers through his hair. “It’s time to go home and get some rest. You’ve got more than enough candy.”
“Fine,” Sigma mumbled, shutting his eyes, almost instantly passing out in Fyodor’s arms.

Fyodor tucked Sigma in after getting his costume off, hanging it up. He walked out of his son’s bedroom, going to the living room, finding Nikolai picking through Sigma’s candy.
“Kolya!”
“What?” he questioned, mouth full of chocolate. “I’m making sure it’s inspected and that there’s nothing that could harm him.”
“...Give me some too.” Fyodor sat down on the couch next to his husband. He kissed Nikolai quickly, the taste of chocolate was delectable on Nikolai’s lips.
“Happy Halloween, Fedya,” Nikolai whispered as he handed Fyodor a piece of chocolate.
“Happy Halloween, Kolya.” Fyodor smiled, leaning against his husband. Halloween definitely wasn’t as bad as they thought.
