“ Hello child “ said a mysterious booming voice.
“Wha.. who’s there?”she asked but yet no answer came.
“Hello?” she asked again .
She finally noticed she was floating panicking for a bit but letting outa
small sigh when she saw she wasn’t falling.
Luz began looking around her, the walls were green and oddly shaped with small holes all over them, there were gold cubes floating around her and the ground was water?yet it looked strangely solid.
She began flying her way forward looking for the source of the voice she had heard,she was feeling a sort of lump growing in her chest .
And suddenly she was awake she’d been having that same nightmare since she was a little kid.
She got out of bed and made her way towards her closet changing out of her pajamas .
After a series of mishaps and bad behavior her principle had suggested she go to a reality check camp today was the day she was meant to leave for camp.
As she was packing her bag she noticed her “good witch azura” book her mom wanted her to get rid of it, she decided to bring it with her
She suddenly heard a knock on her door jumping back slightly
“Mija? Are you awake?” she heard her mom say
“Si mama just packing my bag.” she said in a somber tone
“Don’t sound so down i’m sure you’ll make so many new friends and meet so many interesting people .
“Yea,thanks mom” Luz replied
“Well if you’re hungry breakfast is on the table but hurry up we need to get going “
She started making her way to the kitchen where she could smell her favorite breakfast,even if she was mad at her mom she did admit it smelled delicious.
After being done with her breakfast she grabbed her phone and her bag and got out of the house with her mom
Her mother suddenly hugs her and says “Oh! Oh, my baby Now, don't worry. Summer camp is only going to be for three months. You'll be so busy balancing checkbooks and learning to... appreciate public radio, the time will fly by.”
“But I don't like any of that stuff. I like editing anime clips to music and reading fantasy books with convoluted backstories. “ she replied
“Mija, your fantasy world is holding you back. Do you have any friends? Real ones, not imagined or drawn or reptilian? “
She started walking slowly to the trash holding her good witch azura book
“Summer camp is a chance to make some friends,but you have to try. Can you do that? “Her mother asked
“Yes, Mom. “ she answered while slowly dropping her book into the trashcan
“Oh. I gotta go to work” her mom said before kissing Luz
“Your bus is coming soon. Text me when you get there. Cuídate mucho, mija. Qué te vaya bien”
Soon after her mother left she began rummaging through the trash “where is it ? where is it ?”
She raised her head and saw a small owl carrying a trashbag that was running away ”come back here you tiny trash thief!”
As she was running after the small bird she followed it straight into a dilapidated wooden house,but when she went through the door she caught a glimpse of something similar she for some reason couldn’t pinpoint what
“Stop running away, you tiny adorable…huh?”
She noticed she clearly wasn’t in a half destroyed wooden house but was surrounded by small trinkets and objects
“Huh and I thought I had weird stuff. “ she said while picking up what seemed to be a doll,her train of thought was suddenly interrupted what seemed to be an oddly pale middle aged woman wearing a scarf
She wondered where had the small owl gone?
“Man all this stuff is garbage i need something that’ll pop “ said the woman
“Ooh what’s this ?” she said pulling Luz’s good witch azura book
“Oh it’s just some human book eh at least it’ll make good kindling .” she said while bringing it close to a candle.
“SORRY that’s mine let me take it off your hands. “Luz said while grabbing the book and running to the portal door.
“HEY” the woman said while grabbing the tiny human and putting her on a stool
“Alright kid what are you doing ? huh what’s this ? “ the woman got closer to Luz’s face
“You’re a human aren’t you ?” the woman asked
Luz slowly nodded her head
The woman suddenly threw a powder on her
“AH WHAT THE HECK?” Luz asked .
“Sorry kid, just checking if you weren’t lying and using an illusion spell.”
“So what’s your name human ?”
“Luz,Luz noceda. Nice to meet you. What's yours?”
“My name is Eda the owl lady the most powerful witch on the boiling isles.”
Luz let out a small laugh “ witch? You can’t be serious.”
“Oh you sweet summer child.” Eda said while pulling off her scarf revealing her pointy ears and she suddenly cast a spell turning her whole tent into a small bindle
“AH I KNEW WITCHES WERE REAL.”
“Alright Luz i tell you what you do one job for me i help you get back home deal ?”
“I don’t have much of a choice do i? “
“Nope now hop on we need to get to my house first .”Eda said
“If it’ll help me get back home fine.” Luz said while getting on to Eda’s staff
“Alright kid buckle up.” Eda said while hitting her staff on the back
“AAAAAH” Luz screamed and closed her eyes while being launched up on Eda’s staff
“Hey Luz you ok back there ? you can open your eyes now,it’s safe up here.”
Luz opened her eyes and almost immediately fell off,Eda quickly grabbed her and put her back up
“Well not if you do that.” Eda said
“Where are we?”
“Luz the human welcome to the boiling isles. Every myth you have comes from a little of our world spilling into yours,witches,demons,vampires,werewolves,giraffes."
“Giraffes?”
“Oh yea we banished those guys after the war, buncha freaks i tell you what .”
“Oh here we are.” Eda said
“Woah this place looks so cool .” Luz said
“Yep no place like home i tell you .”Eda said
Luz looked to be a little saddened by what Eda said
“Hoot,hoot if you want to cross thee you must answer my riddles three.” some bird tube thing said
Eda punched it in the head “let us in hooty we don’t have time for this.”
“Alright,alright oww,hoot” hooty opens the door and let’s them in
“Luz, welcome to.. The owl house.”
With a snap of her fingers Eda turned multiple candles on and lighted up a mural on the wall
Luz suddenly heard a voice that somewhat sounded like the one in her dream yelling Luz while afraid looked towards Eda
“Oh don’t worry that’s just my roommate.”
The demon got closer but while it did it’s voice got higher and higher when it reached the bottom of the stairs it looked like a small dog,
Luz let out a small high pitched squeal,and dashed towards the small animal hugging it
“Eda who’s this cutie patootie?” she said while snuggling him
“EDA GET THIS THING OFF OF ME.”
Eda grabbed Luz and said “Luz this is King, King this is Luz the human she can help us with our little problem .”
“Oh right our deal.”Luz said
“So you need to get us a crown. See, King here used to be a powerful ruler of demons.”
“This cutie? A ruler of demons?” Luz said while petting King.
“Yes and his crown is locked behind a barrier in a prison called the
Conformatorium is a place where they lock up people who they deem “unfit for society” . I say it’s a bunch of crap,but back to the barrier only a human can pass through it .”
“Alright then seems simple enough,what’s the hard part?” Luz asked
“I was getting to that, the place is guarded to the teeth we need to sneak in .” Eda explained
“I guess i don’t have a choice do i? “Luz asked
“Not really, beside how could you say no to this face”she said holding up King
“Weeehh don’t encourage her.” he squealed
“Hop on then.” Eda said while pointing to her staff
After a relatively short trip they were at the Conformatorium
“Alright here’s what we’ll do,i’ll make a platform and take you two up to that window you get in then i’ll find some other way in .”
“Got it.” Luz said
“Wait, you need a disguise .”
“Will this do?” Luz pulled up her hood revealing 2 small cat ears
“it’s hideous.”king said.
“Oh you’ll fit right in” Eda said adding a snort at the end
Eda made a platform and took both of them up to the window
“Good luck” she shouted from the bottom
On their way to the holding chambers they notice multiple people locked into small cells.
“Woah you two,how did you get out ?” on of the prisoners asked
“We aren’t prisoners, actually we’re stealing something from here.”
Luz answered
“Hey, would you mind opening our cells ?”
“Depends, why are you locked up in he-” Luz was about to reply when a loud voice started yelling
“Oh crap it’s the warden hide” the prisoners said
Luz quickly hid in one of the open cells
Some monster like massive figure soon entered through the doors
“I can hear you maggots”
The warden soon opened the door with a loud thud
“See this ? “ he said while grabbing a small white creature.”this is what happens to people who don’t do as they’re told.
He soon quickly took the small creature out of their cell quickly taking them past the giant metal doors in the entrance all the while they were screaming and squirming in his giant hands.
Luz was horrified. getting out of her cell she said “THAT’S THE WARDEN?” “Yep.” a prisoner answered her “he’s horrifying.”
“Yep.”
“so , you didn’t tell me, what are you here for ?” luz asked.
“I wrote fanfiction about food.”
“That’s it ? i mean that’s sort of odd but not PRISON worthy hold on let me try to open this thing .”
Luz pushed on the lever holding the prison closed. She expected the lever not to budge but suddenly she felt a little pain in her chest and a sudden burst of strength,letting her easily push the lever up.
“Woah you’re stronger than you look.”the prisoner said
“I’m gonna be honest,I didn't think i’d pull it off.”
“Thank you, I'm going to open the rest of the prisoners' cells. I hope we meet again. I owe you one.”
“See ya.” luz said while running towards the holding chambers with king
And suddenly Luz saw a long tube of light with eda standing next to it
“Hey kid, you're finally here, what took so long?” eda asked
“Nothing, just helping out the prisoners escape.”
“Love it.. Uh, where's the king?”
“Wha.. OH MY GOD HE MUST HAVE GOTTEN LOST WE HAVE TO FIND HIM .” luz said in a panicked tone.
“Well what are you waiting for, let's hurry.” eda said
Luz and Eda run through the prison walls luz felt a little glad seeing the empty cells but suddenly,she saw the warden holding king
“Eda the owl lady, how nice to see you here .” the warden said
“KING” Luz yelled feeling the same pain in her chest from before and a rush of strength she hurled herself at warden wrath with too much power and speed for a normal human,knocking the wind out of him,he dropped king and eda soon grabbed him out of the air.
“Well we have a feisty one on our hands, guards get them.” the warden says after recovering.
The guards start surrounding them eda punches one in the face; he gets knocked out and falls onto the floor.
“Kid, what do you think you’re doing?you could have gotten hurt.” eda said half yelling
“I don’t know,my body acted before my brain did.” luz said while hitting a guard with eda’s staff. The throwing it towards eda,eda quickly caught it
“Alright well at least you can seemingly handle yourself in a fight so you two help me take wrath down alright?” eda asked
“alright “ luz and king said at the same
Eda , luz and king rush the warden,he swings his hand towards the three shaping it into an axe eda manages to dodge the attack and king was too small to even be hit with it,luz however was almost hit but in the minute amount of time before the attack landed she felt yet another strange burst of energy, and hurled a light attack at the warden confusing him,eda immediately swung her staff knocking the warden out and tying him up with a plant spell
“I thought you were a human?” eda asked
“I AM or at least I think I am.”
“Well lucky for you we have a convenient test” king dropped into the conversation
“Right now let’s get that crown” luz said
After a short walk the finally made it to the barrier keeping kings crown,luz saw a long tube of light with king rushing toward it and repeatedly banging his head into the wall of light .
“King we have a human now remember ?”
“Oh right.” said king.
“Alright i guess time to find out if i’m actually a human after all that happened also find kings crown”
Luz slowly entered the tube of light letting out a sigh of relief when she saw she could pass through it.
“Wait is that a …”
Luz emerged out of the wall of light with a small burger queen crown
“That’s not a crown of power is it ?” luz asked
“No but it makes him happy and that’s all that matters, look at us luz we don’t fit in anywhere but at least we have each other. But i guess a deals a deal we first have to get to the owl house .”
“Alright.” luz replied
After a short trip once again they were back at the owl house.
“Welp i’m a witch of my word “ eda said while opening the door
Luz was about to step into the door when she said “you know i’d actually like to stay “
“What ?”
“Yea i don’t fit in back home you don’t fit in here maybe we could not fit in together, beside someone has to teach me how to use my new witch powers.”
“Well what do you say king?” eda asked
“Let her stay she saved me we can trust her .” king replied
“Alright luz noceda from now on you are my witch apprentice but you do need to deliver potions for me to be able to stay.deal?”
“Deal.”luz said.
