Chapter Text
One year ago…
She was trapped in dark room. Ropes rubbed at her already raw wrists. Oh, god, thought (Y/N), I’m going to die tonight. I’m just a singer. What the hell could they get from me of use? (Y/N) was a performer at a bar. She was aware that criminals and other such people frequented it, but she had been careful to never connect with them. True, I have an ability, but I never used it around them...Unless my boss…The door began to open. I guess I’m about to get some answers. Two men dressed in dark clothing stepped in.
“This the girl?” one said. He was taller than the other and was smoking.
“Yeah,” answered the other. He had a gun on his hip.
(Y/N) spoke up. “What do you want with me?”
“You’re gonna make us rich,” said the smoker. “Apparently you have some sort of mind-control ability people have noticed.”
Damn, (Y/N) felt like banging her head against a wall, my piece of crap boss sold me out for a couple bucks. I should have quit as soon as I guessed he may have seen me use my ability.
The man with the gun grabbed her and forced her to her feet. “Come on,” he said to his partner, “We’ve got to go now. Some detectives might come. I heard they’re out lookin’ for her.”
As if summoning trouble, those words of warning were followed by a bang from a corridor outside the room.
“Uh, oh,” said (Y/N). She was smirking. “Looks like you didn’t work fast enough.”
Angrily, the guy with the gun hit her, causing her to fall. Her smirk didn’t fade, however. “Shut up!” he growled.
“What do we do?!” said the other, panicked. His cigarette had fallen and gotten crushed in the shock of a fight beginning outside.
“I think you guys should just turn yourselves in! After all, it’s pointless for you to continue,” said a voice from the door. All three people looked to the voice. Smirking playfully, the man leaned against the doorframe. He had brown hair and matching eyes. A long beige coat fluttered around him. Bandages wrapped around his neck and arms.
“Who the hell are you?!” cried the shorter man, raising his gun to point at the intruder.
“Oh! A gun! How wonderful! Death in a failed rescue attempt would be so dramatic!” cried the brunette.
The two kidnappers and (Y/N) stared in confusion.
“You idiot! Focus on the job! Die on your own time!” a second voice shouted. The poor brunette got kicked by the owner of the voice. This man was blonde and wore glasses.
“Okay, okay. But only because there’s a pretty girl!” said the brunette cheerfully, standing up from the ground. “Now,” his voice lost its playful tone, “Let’s finish this.”
Before the kidnappers had time to react, the blonde man ripped out a page of the notebook he held and threw a flash-bomb at them, blinding them.
He has an ability like me! realized (Y/N) in awe.
The brunette knocked the gun out of one thug’s hands while the blonde knocked him unconscious. Seeing the second kidnapper lunging for the gun, (Y/N) wiggled her hands around in the rope and focused on the gun. The ties made it more difficult to use her ability, but it was not impossible.
Quickly, she said, “There’s a Will; There’s a Way!” Her ability activated. Green strips of light stirred around her hands and the gun. She made a pulling motion with her hands, causing the gun to slide across to her.
The man in the beige coat knocked the second man out before turning to her with the man with glasses. “You have an ability! My, my, belladonna, you’re full of surprises!” he said in a friendly tone.
Unsure of herself, the (H/C) haired girl replied hesitantly, “Yes, I do.” There was no point in hiding it after they saw.
“Nice to meet you, fellow ability user!” he continued cheerfully, squatting down and beginning to untie her hands, “I am Dazai Osamu!” He finished undoing the restraints and looked into her eyes. His cheerfulness left for a moment, revealing a serious look. He was clearly debating with himself. Finally, he spoke up, “I think you’d be very helpful with that ability of yours!” He grinned. “What do you think of being a detective?”
And that’s how (Y/N) (L/N) started on the path to becoming part of the Armed Detective Agency.
