Mountain Pass Indiscretions

Summary:

A mysterious elderly sorcerer appears on the party's travels through the mountain pass and brings in some news that might change the relationship between our dear Tav and a certain magician of Waterdeep.

A short semi-angst drabble I had on my mind that eventually led to a three-part story. This is what I imagined how the conversation with Tav and Gale went after Elmister popped by to tell them Mystra is sending Gale to popcorn his way through the absolute haha. Hope you like it!

Chapter Text

Sunset drips down in the mountain pass and the tree's shadows slowly begin to envelop the camp. As the campfire's embers go on, one can hear the soft chorus of crickets, the last soft chirps of the day birds, and the rising sound of an argument overbearing Gale's tent.

"NO," you exclaim, hands moving more agitated as you look through the tired lines decorating his features.
"I am NOT letting you go through with this Gale! Everyone here wishes to find another way, so why can't you?"

"It's my divine duty," he retorts calmly. "Mystra herself has tasked me to this mission."

"A suicide mission?!" You hiss back as your temper rises.

"This is stupid Gale, you know it is. If anyone else would ask you to do the same, hells if I asked you to blow yourself u-"

"Well, that is because you are NOT her!"
He exclaims, his voice raising for the first time as he interrupts you.

The moment passes in pregnant silence. His anger quickly subsides to surprise and regret at his words as he sees your hurt expression. He slowly comes closer to you, hands reaching in apology.

"Listen, Tav, I-"
"You're right." Your head and heart hurts. "I am not."

You start slowly backing up and turn around to leave. Gulping down your sadness for disdain, you look over your shoulder and stare back at him with empty eyes.

"Just do me a favor, Gale of Waterdeep." You speak sharply in his direction.

"When you blow up, make sure none of us are around to feel it."
