The harsh white light was overpowering, practically engulfing Elara into a disorienting pain. She struggled to put one foot in front of the other as she made her way to the middle of the stage.
"My,my, well don't you just look radiant my dear." Caeser Flickerman screeched for all of Panem to hear. "Here she is people of Panem." He added going an octave higher "Elara Orwell, Victor of The 68th Hunger Games." He bellowed.
This caused the crowd of Capitolites to erupt into a ferocious cheer. Crying out her name, waving their arms obnoxiously. It simultaneously caused the jarring ringing in Elara's ear to increase in its pitch. Somehow causing her more discomfort than she was already in.
"Come dear take a seat." Caeser said guiding her to the white oval seat and practically pushing her into it.
The white oval seat that she and all the other tributes had sat in only a month prior, now it was only her.
As the audiences roaring came to gradual end, Caesar's abrupt questions started to begin.
"Now Elara, not only were your games one of the most exhilarating of our time." He said placing his hands together "They were also the longest games recorded, at a whopping twenty nine days." He exclaimed "Do tell why it was like to be in that arena for almost a month."
"I suppose being somewhere for the amount of time, it almost becomes normal. We actually fell into some sort of a routine by the end of it."
"Sorry to interrupt dear, but by we do you mean your allies." He questioned
Elara nodded already feeling overwhelmed with emotion.
"You're allies being your district partner aswell as the district eight boy if I do recall correctly."
"Yes, Hernan and Enzo."
"Now correct me if I'm wrong." Caeser pondered "but I believe that you know Hernan before entering the arena."
"I've know Hernan since we were kids, we both work down by the docks after school. He taught me how to make my first hook." She smiled. "I guess he's always been like a big brother to me, when we first got reaped I told him if I had any money I'd bet on him."
"Well that's lovely story for you to share with us." Caeser said tapping her arm. "And what about Enzo."
"Enzo's only a baby, the same age as my brother actually. He's really quick, faster than me and Hern put together." She laughed.
"It really was touching to watch, seeing how you and Hernan would sacrifice yourself for Enzo."
"We agreed Enzo deserved it most, I really thought it would be one of them waking out of it." She faltered.
"Do tell Elara, how do you think you and the other tributes managed to make this the longest games yet?"
"Well none of it would have been possible with out the help of the Captiol of course, aswell of the kindness of our dear sponsors." She beamed.
"That is true Elara Dear. Now as much as we will miss watching you in our screens everyday, I'm sure you are excited to see your family."
Elara squirmed before thinking of her family. She did miss them.
She nodded earnestly, playing up to the dramatics. "As much as I love the Capitol I must admit I am excited to go home, to see my family and my District."
After many more artificial smiles and strained laughter. The interview finally came to a halt.
The sound of the audience wailing sounding more like screams from the arena by the second as it followed her off the stage, down the wings.
Once she reached the green room she could basically feel her heart beating out of her chest, pounding as if it was about to explode. As a cold sweat came over her body she heeled over the bin beside her.
After what felt like hours, Elara felt a warm hand lightly touch her shoulder.
"You did good you know, they loved you." Finnick whispered.
"I only have to keep it up for the rest of my life." She croaked.
