Edge remembers the day he met Vanny very well, because it's hard to forget how weird the encounter was.
He doesn't decide to dwell on the past, after disappearing for months he finally returns to the hell that is known as Multitale, a small multiverse that usually makes him depressed, all the obnoxious AUs are there and that's not to mention Senpairus and that.. weird Yandere sans after him, but, that's a story for another time, maybe.
he walks into the boring room that is the normal meeting spot for everyone, it seems to change with will. no time to question such things like magical changing rooms when you're literally a magical skeleton who is in a room with 17 other magical skeletons. Edge has never really like the company down at Multitale.. but, he can deal with it. He isn't quite sure why he's so surprised to see Vanny just.. existing there, not really doing anything important, just talking to two other skeletons, they appear to be the exact same, like, the exact same AU but there's 2 of them.. one is slightly taller and appears a lot more like someone you would expect Vanny to have a love/hate relationship with, the other one looks energetic as hell and nicer than the other despite seeming to be the same person.
He watches as his whatever he should call Vanny holds something up on a leash, a disgusting parasite - The fresh parasite to be exact - and the smaller one backs away into a portal, not paying much attention to the fact the smaller one was leaving, Vanny seemed more than fine talking to the taller one, making a bracelet dangling off of her wrist, matching one that the taller skeleton had been wearing.
Vanny was.. as far as he knew, human.. or at least part human, she did seem to call herself 'his dog' a lot, which he just ignored half the time. So, seeing her hold up the Fresh Parasite should be concerning, but, he also trusts that the rest of multitale would probably help protect Vanny, Vanny had a handful of friends but at the same time, they probably had a few people that would love to see them dust - or to see their soul shatter.. Edge wasn't really sure what would happen to Vanny when she died.
"I mean, being dead is a lot better because I can.. y'know, do whatever I want, but, I do wanna be alive again.. I can still do everything I could do when I was alive but what's the fun in that if I can't risk death again and again?" Vanny's voice snapped him from his thoughts. "Yeah, you probably don't get it, you just like bringing others pain, Inverted." She'd add on under her breath.
"you're dead?" Edge would finally speak up, causing Vanny, the parasite and the other papyrus au to look over his way.
"..Oh, uhhhhhh, Hi, Edge. this is Inverted, I'm assuming you also saw Fate and then this one is my friend and new pet!" She'd smile, holding up the parasite which seemed to be fine with it's current position in life.
"...You're dead." He repeats again, this time it isn't a question, it did make sense, no normal person would constantly hang around him and actually like it.. also, she's eaten glass before, and she's fallen off of him (she likes climbing him like a tree, don't ask.) multiple times without being very hurt.
"Yep, Yep! Dead, Dead as all hell!.. well, not technicallyyyy because I can't go to hell, or heaven, or even turn to dust or have my soul properly shatter but, you get what I mean!" Vanny would reply, the one that Edge now knew as Inverted laughing at the joke.
"..Oh."
How was Edge meant to process this exactly? He had been worried that her risky activities could be her down-fall but she apparently had her down fall a lot longer ago than what he would've ever guessed. She had always seemed fairly normal when it came to stuff like eating and drinking, hell, she even breaths.. he supposes that she just wants to feel alive and does these things to mimic the feeling.
Vanny would then go back to talking with Inverted, they seemed to be discussing Fate.. he's assuming that they mean the Skeleton and not literal fate as he just stands there, trying to process what in the world he had just learnt.
Vanny is dead, fully dead, they cannot die again. He has seen them be in pain which he knows was real, so, she can obviously still feel pain, she just can't re-die.. she'd live through every fatal blow, something that should kill her merely being a scratch on her at this point.
