The weather gets colder, and Sangyeon puts his clothes on after a heated night, leaving the other person in bed still half-awake. It’s another new day, at least for Sangyeon. Being around his last years in twenties, this year was no good for him, getting fired for nonsense reasons, spending three months being an unemployed boyfriend for his super-smart-archeologist boyfriend , who paid everything in this household for a while. Sangyeon doesn’t want to take advantage of it, and always feels sorry when saw his boyfriend walking slowly at the door when back home. So even if today is the weekend and suddenly a call from a company to interview comes, Sangyeon can’t ignore any small chance like that.
“Didn’t you say the interview was at eight? It's still five.” Whisper the man on the bed, trying to keep his eyes open after hours of battle on a sheet. “Take an hour of sleep, still good, hyung. I can drive you to the company later. ”
“I have to prepare myself first, any question can determine my life.”
“No, It won’t decide anything, hyung. There’s a lot of different companies in this world, and this one asking for an interview on the weekend? Doesn't it sound like a red flag? They may not be paid for overtime-work.” Said the man tried to convince Sangyeon to stay as long as he can inside. “And I don’t mind if you are unemployed till the doomsday..”
It hurts. Sangyeon never thought that Hyunjae would think that he can only be at home and do nothing, being a parasite in his life. The only thing he could do when at home was cooking for him and maybe clean the house, and it will be the only thing he expected him to do?
“ Hyung? You heard me?” Sangyeon nodded and forced a smile, he took another breath and took his towel. “Be home as soon as the interview ends, okay?”
“I tried.”
Sangyeon felt worse, Hyunjae really can predict what job the company is offering, how he will be a mechanic for a company, and how the jobs will take monday to sunday without a fixed schedule. He may have counted the salary based on coming, but seeing the interviewer's face and how tired his eyes were, it didn’t sound good every time. Another thing is Sangyeon heard a scream from another room and a loud smack following. Yeah, this place maybe the worst place to work, and a lot of bad reviews shown on internet maybe true. Sangyeon only smiles when the interview ends and he gets back to the bus, not trying to call Hyunjae at all.
“His wage is already enough but..” Sangyeon didn’t want to be a burden for Hyunjae and leech him off. “Well, there’s a lot of company other than that one right?”
Bus was full, people came back from holiday, and Sangyeon was the only one wearing formal attire. People take a look at him before whispering, he looks cool. Sangyeon tried to put on a smile to not look rude, when his stop getting near Sangyeon could see someone standing at the bus stop with an umbrella on his left hand.
“I didn’t say when I’ll be home, Hyunjae.”
“Thats why, this is the tenth bus I see, and none of them have you inside.” Sangyeon can’t hide his sadness and hugs Hyunjae tightly, “People are seeing us, they might be jealous.”
“What have I done to have someone like you in my life?”
“And this one is called Public Display of Affection, you will get mocked by older people now.” Said Hyunjae stroked Sangyeon’s hair, “Let's go back home?” Sangyeon nodded a little and Hyunjae grabbed his hand leading them back home.
Sangyeon knows he may be bad for giving Hyunjae another tiring day even on weekends when the man is already tirelessly affectionate to Sangyeon even on workdays. He also noticed the first time they were together was because of Sangyeon being a considerate person and always bringing Hyunjae’s up, but now everything is different and Sangyeon was a big burden for Hyunjae’s life.
“What do you want for dinner? I can cook something fast if you are already hungry.'' asked Sangyeon when Hyunjae input the passcode of the apartment.
“Actually.. I cooked dinner.”
“Oh? Yeah.. I think I smell some soy sauce.” Sangyeon tried to keep a smile on his face, the only thing he could do was house-core and Hyunjae was already taking care of it. “You can take a bath first, I will prepare the hot tube.”
“No, you can go first. It’s been a hard day for you, right?” and Sangyeon can’t say anything when being pushed to the bathroom with a towel. “Clean yourself up, and we can have dinner.” Hyunjae closed the bathroom’s door with a smile on his face, while Sangyeon was sighing hard. Is it a call for him to just be a trophy boyfriend? But it more sounds like a shitty-trophy boyfriend with nothing to do and leeching everything his boyfriend has.
“Maybe this is the end.” Said Sangyeon to himself and tried to put a smile on his face. “Maybe.”
When Sangyeon came out of the bath, the light was out all around the house. He makes sure one more time by touching the switch but a candle light suddenly shown from the kitchen makes Sangyeon go to the light.
“No-no-no, don’t come. Nothing happened, it was just me. Okay?” Sangyeon stopped and looked at the man who groaned because the candle wouldn't lit. “Oh, fuck it. Just turn on the light.” Sangyeon gets to the switch and turns all the rooms’ lights on.
“What.. are you doing?”
“Surprising my own boyfriend? For his birthday? Yeah.. it sounds stupid and troublesome, but please be a bit considerate because I can’t turn the aircon off and still lit the candle..” Hyunjae shows Sangyeon a cake with a word written, Happy Birthday my beloved Love. with a dog face next to a birthday cake icing. “As you can see, you are my beloved love. Well I prepared a cheesy letter, but keep it for later ok?”
“My birthday?”
“Yeah, It’s definitely not mine. I tried to.. You know, make a good schedule and prepare for your birthday but.. You had an interview this morning, so I prepared for the night! Maybe we can’t have dinner at a fancy restaurant, no it’s not your fault, don’t even think about that. But my cooks can be a five star hotel chef, at least the video says so.” Sangyeon tried not to cry, but tears were already coming from his eyes. “ Hyung? Why? You don’t like my food? It’s okay, we can buy from online, or maybe we can go out, yeah .. That’s better. I’m such a loser for a romantic event, please don’t cry, I’ll make it better next time, or maybe tomorrow, I can take you to the shop and you can buy anything you want. ”
“What if I want the most expensive watch?” Hyunjae blink a few times and nod, “A bigger house?”
“If it’s for you and me, I can consider it. I never tried to take a big loan before, but.. It is doable. The house feels cramps these days right? I even brought some projects home.. Bigger will be better.”
“Don’t you think I tried to use you?”
“Are you?” No, Sangyeon took a peek at Hyunjae’s worried face, “ Hyung, did you think of something bad? It’s a Jinx to do that on your birthday.”
“I have no job, living in a house that you paid for the rent, eating your food, and even asking for an expensive gift. I am a leech in your life.” Hyunjae takes a deep sigh, “All I can do is do the house core, and.. You did it great already. I don’t want to be a burden for you, and I said it since the first day we were together, and.. All I did was.. The opposite.”
“Lee Sangyeon.” called Hyunjae before taking the older to a hug, “You are not a leech, you are everything that I can have, and I only want to have. I don’t want you to feel bad if the old man who you called boss kicked you out because his bitch suddenly took interest in you. We have known each other for so long that even if you tried to kill me, I know that you have a reason for that. I will support you in every way you take, hyung. And this is our house, this is our food, and today is your birthday. What's wrong with wanting something special for your birthday? I love you hyung, don’t take that as a give and take relation, even if you think like that, You give me the world, and I am surely glad if you take everything in my world too, because it yours.”
“I hate that you wrote a poem in highschool.” Said Sangyeon with tears still flowing out from his eyes.
“That sounds cheesy and soothing at the same time, right?” Hyunjae strokes Sangyeon's hair and smiles, “Still it’s a Jinx, we should pray tomorrow to remove all the bad thoughts.”
“You're right.”
“And maybe really consider a bigger house, I just told to bring home some of unsolved projects..”
