Work Text:
Mina wakes in a disorientated fog, sluggishly swimming to consciousness. Prying her eyes open only shows the darkened cabin room she fell asleep in. Her hearing catches up when the soft snores of the girls around her filter in. Then touch—
She hisses. A cold leg is wrapped around her own. It’s no wonder she’s awake. The arm around her waist tightens.
“Sorry,” Tooru whispers behind Mina, where she’s pressed obviously chest to Mina’s back.
“You’re so cold!” Mina shivers, but stays still. Now that she’s awake the overwhelming chill of the room is obvious. When the class had voted to have another training camp to finish off their final year, summer summarily was marked off the list of dates. Mina reminds herself that she had voted for late fall and burrows deeper into the futon. Her mistake.
Tooru is visible underneath; her hand taking a staticky glow around it and faintly greener than most people’s skin. Mina wraps her own around it, squeezing gently. “Nightmare?”
Tooru hums. “I really didn’t mean to wake you. I’m way sneakier usually.”
The snores and soft breathing around them don’t change. That’s good, they aren’t being too loud. “Probably should’ve worn pants then, instead of your goofy shorts.”
“You love my goofy shorts.”
Mina does. They’re like those super old American cartoons, with hearts all over. “Maybe if it wasn’t four degrees out.”
“It’s nine at the very least. Don’t be a baby.”
“You’re the one with icicles for legs!” Mina huffs, throwing her arm back to smack Tooru. The other girl doesn’t bother to move, taking the hit with a grunt.
“Mean. Mean, mean, mean.”
“You first!”
“Asshole.” Mina can’t see Tooru, but she knows there’s a tongue sticking out at the back of her head. She rolls her eyes.
Tooru’s legs are finally getting warmer, so it’s less shocking. Still uncomfortable, though.
“You okay?” Mina says, going back to holding Tooru’s hand.
There’s a pause. Someone makes a snuffling sound in the room. “I’m good. I just—”
She stops, hand twitching.
“Didn’t wanna be alone, huh?”
“Yeah,” she says so softly Mina can only almost hear.
Mina raises Tooru’s hand and twists so she’s facing her. Despite seeing Tooru’s face for the past twoish years, the glow and flicker of features amazes Mina. Tooru’s eyes are glazed with tears edging at the corners.
Tooru used to never let anyone see.
“You wanna talk about it?”
Her eyes close and she shakes her head briefly. Mina leans forward, pressing her forehead against Tooru’s own.
“Okay.”
Her legs are warm again, finally. Tooru is the one to squeeze her hand this time.
“Thanks.”
With a light smack of her forehead against Tooru’s again, Mina says, “You can crawl in here anytime. Todoroki legs and all.”
“Mina!”
“Tooru!” She teases, drawing her name out. Her eyes are brighter, her smile more real.
“Okay, okay! Time for sleep!”
“Yeah,” Mina says, “We’re going to be tired as shit tomorrow.”
A groan. “Don’t remind me.” Tooru fades from view, although Mina can still feel her in her arms. “Goodnight.”
“Night.”
Mina focuses on Tooru until her breathing slows and evens. Pressed up against her like this, Mina can’t feel the cold anymore at all.
