Chapter Text
Benny & Ethan - Morning
Whitechapel seemed normal for once.. almost too normal for the gang.
“I’m just saying if Star Trek were better than Star Wars--” Benny argued to Rory beside him.
“Hey! Hey!” Ethan interrupts, “Did you guys see this news headline this morning?” the boy said pointing eagerly at his phone, “They found another girl-- totally healthy-- dead! This time suffocation! That's 3 different girls dead in the last month! All totally normal and all different causes of death!” The two taller boys rolled their eyes.
“Dude!” Benny grabs Ethan by the shoulders, “There hasn't been anything supernatural happen in like 2 months! Just let it go!”
“Yeah man! It's probably like a regular serial killer! Like- like Jason or Freddie Kruger!” Rory exclaims. The other two share a look but decide not to say anything.
Just then a girl walks by, catching Benny’s attention. His head follows her as she passes them in the hallway.
“Who is that?” Rory asks dreamily as he follows Benny’s line of sight. Benny’s head instantly snaps to look at the blonde.
“Uh, dude, that’s Y/N L/N, duh. She's like the hottest girl in school.” He smiles as he watches her retreat down the hall. “And she's mine, so back off!” He points a hard finger towards Rory. Rory raises his hands in defence.
“Fine, but it's not my fault if she can't resist the Rorinator,” the blonde gestures towards himself, backing away, after a few steps he departs in a blur. Benny’s eyes narrow as he looks into the sea of people in the hallway.
“Isn’t Y/N the one who helped you pick up your things after that jock pushed you on the first day?” Ethan asks skeptically.
“Yeah,” Benny sighs, going back into his love struck state.
“And isn’t she friends with said jock?”
“Yeah,” Benny finally clues into what Ethan is getting at, “but don't you remember, she totally yelled at him for pushing me!”
“Didn't he do it again the next day?” Ethan asks.
“Yeah…” Benny frowns looking at his feet.
“Yeah.” Ethan pats his friend on the back and the boys head to their first class.
Y/N - Lunch
From the moment she woke up, Y/N knew today wouldn't be a good day. Because, well, everyday was a bad day. Ever since finals last year this group of preppy popular people had taken a liking to her. Y/N never really had any close friends, except for maybe a few girls from her classes in freshman year, Sarah and Erica, but they went off to do their own thing in sophmore year. So it was strange, to say the least, that these jocks and cheerleaders were her “friends,” but they didn't treat her badly, they never made fun of her (to her face at least) and they only occasionally asked for her answers on assignments. So there's no reason she shouldn't be happy to be their friend, right?
But something felt off, they made fun of the lower years and pushed around who they deemed “nerds”, and the girls would always make up lies about girls they were jealous of.
Y/N payed the lunch lady and turned around with a sigh, some days she thought of ditching her “friend group” but she always came to the conclusion that she had nowhere else to go. So she put on her best fake smile and walked to the far corner of the cafeteria.
“Y/N! There you are! Have you seen Sarah Fox’s hair today? It’s like a total bird's nest!” the head cheerleader, Brittany, exclaimed, which earned a laugh from all the other girls at the table. Brittany had been Stephanie’s right hand woman before she mysteriously disappeared, so it was only natural that she had taken over as head cheerleader. Y/N smiled and started to walk to the end of the table, but Brittany grabbed her arm. “Sit up here today! We never get to talk!” she smiled at Y/N, but Y/N couldn't tell if it was fake or not.
Politely Y/N sits down at the end of the table with a soft “Sure.” Out of the corner of her eyes she sees two brown haired lowerclassmen whispering and looking at her. Naturally, she looks towards them, which prompts them to look away quickly. Brushing it off, she turns to Brittany, “How was English? Is Mrs. Ward still being a pain?”
“Oh my god! Yes! That bitch-- you know what she did?” Y/N takes a bite of her salad, and chews, as it feels like time slows down, “She totally gave me a C on my paper!” Y/N swallows, but feels resistance in her throat, like the bite was lodged there. “She--” Y/N stands up, grabbing the edge of the table. She tries to cough it up but nothing comes out, it feels like the whole cafeteria is looking at her. Brad, one of the football jocks, gets up from his seat at the end of the table.
“She’s choking!” he exclaims, running behind her to attempt the heimlich. The jocks and cheerleaders are circled around them now and one of the brown haired boys from earlier is staring intently at her as the other reads a book. Brad attempts the heimlich a handful of times, Y/N’s brain is getting hazy, when the taller brown haired boy runs in front of them, hand extended and he mumbles something. The bite of food is dislodged and Y/N collapses to the ground, eye to eye with what she just coughed out. But it's not lettuce and cucumber and tomato, no, it's a frog.
“Oh sick!” A blonde runs up to the frog and picks it up, “This is the best day ever!” and he runs off.
“Rory!” the shorter brown haired boy exclaims.
The other turns to Y/N, “Are you okay?”
Suddenly what just happens hits Y/N, she looks at the boy, gets up, and runs from the cafeteria.
Benny & Ethan - Lunch
“I’m just saying, Mr. G could totally be an alien!” Benny argues, setting his lunch tray on the table beside Ethan’s.
“I’m not having this argument again,” Ethan responds seriously, picking up his apple and taking a bite. As Benny sits down, the girl from this morning brushes past them. The two boys' eyes trail the girl to the rowdy table in the back corner by the window. They watch with curiosity as the head cheerleader grabs her by the arm and instructs Y/N to sit by her. They're still watching when Y/N looks up from the table to see them staring. Turning away quickly Ethan tries to change the subject, “Weathers nice out today.”
“Yeah, mhm,” Benny agrees as he pokes at the food on his plate.
Just then a commotion is heard from that same table they were watching just moments ago. They stand up from their table, rushing to see what was happening.
“She's choking!” one of the jocks yells, rushing to her side.
Benny instantly whips out his spellbook. “What are you doing?” Ethan whisper-yells at him.
“Trying to save the girl of my dreams! What does it look like!” he flips through the pages frantically. “Hah! I got it!” he runs forward, hand extended as he whispers the spell. The perpetrator is expelled from her body. Only when they all looked down it wasn't what they expected, “A frog?” Ethan whispers.
“Oh sick!” Rory runs forward, scooping up the frog quickly, “best day ever!” he exclaims, running off.
“Rory!” Ethan scolds the boy but he is long gone.
“Are you okay?” Benny asks Y/N, stepping forward. The girl's eyes are wide and scared as she looks at him. Almost as fast as Rory, Y/N is up and gone in no time at all.
“Shit!” Benny exclaims. “That was my chance dude!” he turns to Ethan who looks worried.
“Uh dude, I think we have other things to worry about right now,” he looks around at the crowd, “and I think I might know a way you can make it up to her.” Benny shoots Ethan a questioning glance, “Wipe their minds! They all just saw her cough up a frog! I doubt she wants anyone to remember that!” Ethan urges.
“Ohhh,” most of the crowd is still standing there, whispering amongst themselves, not really knowing what just happened. “Okay! Everyone! Look over here!” Benny announces, gathering their attention. He says the memory wiping spell and sends everyone on their way.
“Now, if you had just coughed up a frog in front of the entire student body, where would you go?” He ponders aloud to his friend.
“I don't know? The bathroom?” Benny points his finger at Ethan, nodding his head in agreement and running out of the cafeteria, Ethan rushing to follow behind.
As they approached the girls bathroom it dawned on the two boys that they wouldn't be able to enter. They slowed down their steps to a stop a few feet from the door and slowly looked at each other. Benny raised his finger to say something but Ethan's eyes lit up as he spotted a head of brown hair that looked familiar down the hallway. “I have an idea,” he stated, gesturing to the girl who was now approaching them, her taller blonde counterpart walking in stride. As they neared the boys, Ethan rubbed his sweaty hands on the side of his jeans as Benny leaned on the lockers trying to look nonchalant. “Heyyy Sarah,” Ethan offered weakly.
Erica & Sarah - Morning
Erica stood at the edge of the school grounds, hugging the treeline for the shady reprieve from the burning morning sun. Out of the corner of her sunglasses she could see someone nearing her from the sidewalk. Turning her head, she gave a closed lip smile to the approaching girl as she recognized her as her best friend.
“Hey,” the brunette sighed as she joined her friend at the treeline.
“Hey,” Erica replied, returning her gaze to the clusters of people near the entrance of the school.
“What are you up to? Planning your next meal?” Sarah asked.
“Maybe,” her eyes narrowed in on the head cheerleader, and, as she considered her, friend-stealer. She watched as Brittany tugged a girl towards her, noticing it was Y/N, the stolen friend in question, Erica growled quietly.
“Sounds like the target is locked on,” Sarah commented, still able to hear her growl with super hearing. The bell rings and Sarah wraps her arm around Erica’s, “C'mon, let's get to class.”
Erica & Sarah - Lunch
“Ethan,” Sarah eyed the shorter boy suspiciously.
“We kinda need your help,” he started.
“I’m out of here,” Erica spoke up from Sarah’s side, flipping her hair and starting to walk away.
“Ericaaa,” Benny whined.
“What is it?” Sarah asked impatiently, crossing her arms and glaring at Ethan.
“Something happened to Y/N in the cafeteria-- something supernatural and--” he was cut off by Erica quickly returning to the conversation.
“Y/N? As in Y/N L/N?” she inquired, eyeing the small boy intensely.
“Ye-yes,” he replied.
“Why? Is she on your list of people to drain?” Sarah asked sarcastically.
“Actually, no,” she looked to her friend earnestly, the group shared a look of disbelief. Sighing, Erica continued, “When I was like, a nerd, she was one of the only people who was like, nice to me.” She sighed again at the group's continued skepticism, “Don't you remember Sarah?” She threw her arms up in defeat, “She would sit with us at lunch sometimes?”
“Oh yeah! And you guys would geek out over the first Dusk movie!” Sarah recalled, making Erica deflate even more, if it was possible. “I didn't mean geek out like--”
“No, it's fine, now I know how you really felt about us,” Erica held up her hand to stop Sarah. “So where is she? And what did you two losers do to her?”
“Nothing!” Benny’s arms instantly shot up in surrender. “I swear, she was just choking, and I went to save her using my super awesome magic powers and she coughed up a frog!”
Erica’s eyes narrowed and she looked towards Ethan, without having to say anything, Ethan shakily pointed towards the girls bathroom.
Erica turned and started towards the bathroom, Sarah hot on her heels.
Y/N - Lunch
Staring in the mirror, Y/N desperately tried to figure out what had just happened. There was no way she had eaten a frog, right? There was no way that was in her salad and she hadn't noticed it.
She was startled out of her thoughts by the bathroom door being swung open. She quickly put her head down and wiped her face to get rid of any remaining tears.
“Y/N?” A soft voice sounded behind her, she knew that voice. Looking up she's met with the sight of the two girls who had been so kind to her in freshman year.
“I-uh sorry I- um have to-,” Y/N tried to slip by them but they stood firmly in front of the door.
“Y/N,” Erica reached out to the girl gently, “it's okay, we deal with this stuff all the time. It’s going to be okay,” she placed a hand on her shoulder comfortingly. Looking up into her eyes for the first time, Y/N could tell she was being genuine.
“What happened?” She whispered just barely audible, but the two vamps heard just fine.
“We're not sure, but we're gonna help you figure it out,” Sarah said, placing her hand on Y/N’s other shoulder, “C’mon.”
