Gilded Hearts

Summary:

A marriage was of two types; arranged and love.

Our dear protagonists did not think they would ever be in a situation where they would have to choose an arranged marriage to find their other half but sometimes parents can be stubborn.

So, here we are with our dear Jungkook-ie and Taehyung-ie sitting in front of each other, both holding their breaths to break the awkward silence and to start their golden story.

Chapter 1: The Meeting

Chapter Text

Jungkook was waiting at a café for this potential “husband material” man chosen by his parents for the meeting.

He arrived a few minutes early to shake off the jitters. He never got nervous when he went to meet the blind dates his friends' setup or the matched partner from a dating app, yet here he was being a nervous wreck.

He wondered if it was because Taehyung looked like a literal angel sent from above and Jungkook hoped his personality matched his beautiful face? Or was it him fearing that he might embarrass himself in front of the person on whom he had developed a little crush as soon as his mother wore him down to meet her potential son-in-law and showed him his photo? He remembers an incident from his middle school days when he had yet to hit his puberty and had this massive crush on his English teacher, the middle school Jungkook could not even attend a full class without shuttering and being red-faced whenever he had to talk to his teacher. His friends had always made fun of him because of his crush and to add to his embarrassment, sometimes his teacher also teased him back (apparently his teacher found it quite cute).

He immediately diverted his thoughts from his cringing gay-awakening school crush and back to Taehyung. He would be lying to himself if he said he did not imagine a future with Taehyung. He once again cringed internally at his own thoughts. This was the third time in his life he had developed a crush so fast where he just wanted to jump the gun. Actually, it should be counted as a second time as having a certain fixation on RM’s thighs did not come under the crush category (a useful weapon wielded by Taehyung quite a lot later in their relationship to get more bratty and get his way around, a deal not to disclose Jungkook’s thigh kink to RM was struck).

The scrapping of the chair made him snap out of his mind and he realized Taehyung just sat down in front of him. Jungkook gave him a small smile and let out a quiet ‘hello’.

Taehyung gave him the softest smile Jungkook had ever seen and brightly replied, “Hi!”.

Hearing his voice, Jungkook knew right at this moment that he was a goner, and he would sell his soul to the devil if Taehyung asked or murder anyone who hurt him. Little dramatic? Yes, but the other person would understand after seeing Taehyung.

“Did you order something?” Taehyung asks as he makes himself comfortable on the low-level sofa.

Jungkook shook his head, “No, I just arrived here a few minutes back.” Taehyung nods his head in acknowledgment and picks up the menu that the waiter had given to Jungkook earlier.

“I heard the hot chocolate is quite good here.” Taehyung looked at him with a small smile at his suggestion.

Taehyung let go of the menu, interlaced his hands, and said, “I know we just met but I already have a good feeling about this.” Jungkook knew his ears would be cherry-coloured right now and saw Taehyung’s eyes flicked towards his ear and a small chuckle left his mouth.

Jungkook covered his ears and muttered, “Well, I wish for the same as well.”

“Just for future reference, hot chocolate happens to be one of my favourite drinks.” Taehyung said and lifted his hand up to call for the waiter.

The waiter came and took Taehyung’s order first and then Jungkook’s. After the waiter left, there was a comfortable yet awkward silence. It looked like none of them knew how to break the silence.

“So, um, my mom told me you work in the designing department at Hope-World?”, a boring but welcome question to break the silence.

“Ah, yes. I recently got promoted as the Team lead.” Jungkook was proud of his accomplishment. It felt good to be progressing forward in a place he liked very much.

“Really? Congratulations, Jungkook-shi, it's my treat today to celebrate your promotion then.” Jungkook muttered a small thanks blushing and tried to deny the treat, but Taehyung was having none of it.

After Jungkook lost the treat debate, he asked, “You are really a songwriter and composer at BigHit?”. A little tidbit he remembers from the little information his mother had given him about Taehyung. ‘Jungkookie, Taehyungie is a very handsome 29-year-old man. He works at that big idol company, BigHit was it? His work is about making music or something. He earns very well. Do you know he already has an apartment in Gangnam?! Taehyung’s description would have made anyone interested in marriage, just like Jungkook.

Taehyung nodded his head at that, “Do you know my work name?”

Jungkook shook his head but added, “But I do like songs composed by P-dogg, RM, Suga, and Vante from BigHit.”

“Ah, Jungkook-shi is already my fan then.” Taehyung then added with a smirk, “Vante is my work name."

It took him a moment to understand what Taehyung had said and when he realized he slapped the tabletop with both his hands in surprise, “The fuck! You are not shitting me, right?” Jungkook thought he must have saved the whole world in his last life to have this amazing luck. First, he gets an angel as his potential match then that angel is literally a music-writing angel who Jungkook had been admiring ever since he turned twenty-one. The weird look people at the other table gave the ‘couple’ was obviously ignored.

Taehyung let out a chuckle and replied, “I am really not shitting you, Jungkook-shi.”

Blushing, with a pout Jungkook said, “Then give me an autograph, and also, you can talk informally with me, I will also call you hyung from now onwards.”

Taehyung shook his head and let out a small laugh, “As you wish, Jungkook-ah.”

This started their start non-stop conversation which ranged from getting to know each other, their hobbies to their expectations of a spouse to their future goals, kids, family, money, a little bit about their boundaries, their jobs, some of their past and childhood memories thrown here and there. A bit too much for just the first meeting? Maybe. But to Jungkook whatever deep conversations they were having were flowing naturally without any pressure or uncomfortableness. He knows a lot of their conversations were not first-meet material but all the topics came up naturally.

The food that had been ordered and served was empty from their plates, their drinks finished, yet their conversations continued till the evening. It was the phone call from Taehyung’s mom asking how their meeting went that made them realize the time.

“As much as I don’t want our time together to end, I have to go, I have an early morning meeting tomorrow.” Taehyung said as he called for the waiter to ask for the bill. Taehyung paid the bill despite Jungkook trying to snatch the bill before Taehyung could pick it up. He lost but there is always the next time he thought.

After the bill was paid, both of them stood outside of the café, reluctant to leave, “Jungkook-ah, the past few hours gave me hope that we would be a good match and even though I want to jump the gun and say yes, I would like if went on a few more dates and then decide finally, what say?

Jungkook took a deep breath and agreed, “You are right hyung, I would like to know you better even though I am sure you are the one.” Taehyung’s eyes were wide at his words. Even Jungkook himself was surprised at his bold statement but his gut feeling about this match was too strong to ignore and he hoped his tiny show of confidence would make Taehyung understand how serious Jungkook is.

The sudden but welcomed hug was surprising, Jungkook did not want to let him go but he had to until they could meet next time. Jungkook kissed Taehyung’s cheek in return.

If both were as red as a tomato, then it’s no one’s business.
