Etlar I-lemar Mnemosa - The Water Melody Pt.1
There were avast of armed diwatas adorned with their armors that hailed all the way from Lireo. All scattered throughout the plot of green and thriving land, their posture straight like their weapons they hold in their hands.
Trodden patches were evidences of a lived in habitat for many creatures. All those paths leads into a clearing of an enormous lagoon. When sun rays peeked through the dense forest, it emits a teal luminescence. The lagoon is connected to small river that leads to the sea. Truly, a sign that it is alive and well taken care off.
The lagoon are filled with beings, from half-lings to mermaids. The half humanoid with fish tails swam around and played with each other. They splashed and flipped water with the use of their rainbow tails, their sharpened teeth appear as they grin at each other. There were chatters exchanges to and fro with the other species dwelling within the lagoon.
They all just finished their monthly levy towards Lireo as a payment for keeping them safe and sound. This has always been their tradition of relaxing after a tedious task.
A yard away from the body of water, stood tall a Diwan. He stood out like a sore thumb dressed colors of blue and green. His head was covered by layered black hair that reached pass his neck. There is a silver twined metal that wrapped around his forehead, temples and the back of his head. The sun-kissed skin glowed as no blemishes were found insight.
Diwan: Prince
The Diwan unclasped his woven fingers, resting behind his back, to fix his the lapels of his dress shirt. His inner dress shirt was black with silver buttons. The shirt exposed his Adam’s apple and one third of his upper chest. Long navy blue pants peeping through his garments as it covers parts of his sheltered feet.
His hands moved towards his carefully tailored armor. It was the most precious gift he had been presented to. Everyone in Adamyan had a hand in making the shield he wore. When he moves, it captures the sunlight and it shimmers into hues of green. It was also blessed in rejuvenating properties if ever he sustains any wounds during a battle. He was happy when watched them make it throughout the years he would visit the place.
Lost in his thoughts, the Diwan turned sharply and he bumped into a sprite. Their tiny feet couldn’t give them ample of time and drop a rounded pot. It would have hit the dirt if it weren’t for the fast reflex of the one at fault. A pitcher now floated in the air along with speckles of water near and outside the rim. The spilled water flew back into the clay pot with a plop, then he grabbed it.
The sprite said, “Avisala eshma, Diwan Adamus,” as Adamus carefully placed the pot into its small hands. The sprite smiled and bowed its purple head. The royal heir returned the smile and patted its head.
Avisala eshma: Thank you
Giggling, they fluttered around Adamus then zoomed to their mushroom house. The lips curled down once the sprite was out of sight. Closing his eyes, a tired breath escapes from him. He let out a heavy sigh and moved towards a tiny stone way.
“Avisala, Diwan Adamus.” A soldier don in Lirean colored armor clicked his heals and bowed his head. He waited to be acknowledge and raise his head.
Avisala: Greetings, Diwan: Prince
“Mashna Gillo. Avisala” Adamus eyed one of his mother’s general with indifference. “Adnes?”
Mashna: General, Adnes: What?
Hearing his name, General Gallo stood up and answered, “Agape avi, Diwan Adamus. You are being summoned by our Hara Alena. Due ada.”
Agape avi: Excuse me, Hara: Queen, Due ada: Your mother
“Idtu?”
Idtu: Why?
“Her majesty has found a teacher to teach and train you to fight. And can they can spar with you as well.”
His eyebrows raised as well as his curiosity. “Deu?”
Deu: Who?
“Agape avi, Diwan Adamus. I do not have any clue who they are. They could be from our own troops, or…”
Agto: But, Ivi duo: I don’t know
Gillo didn’t finish his thoughts as he bowed once more. He knew the Crown Prince hated training. He had been entrusted to be his royal attendant since childbirth, but only now was he promoted to a general status while he joined the army. It was a milestone for him, but Gillo grew to love Adamus as his son. No matter what status he is in his life, his loyalty will always be to Adamus.
Sucking through his teeth, Adamus looked around through his shoulders. He watched the playful mermaids swashing in the waters, the spinning trolls annoying two twinning Dwarves with head cover on their head. The giggling sprites had gone to play around and sprinkling many glimmering dust on the flourishing flowers. Adamus’ eyes reddened and sniffed, and all at once he willed himself numb.
“Okay. Let me go and say my goodbyes to Imaw. You may all go back first. I should be back in the royal palace in ten minutes.”
Mashna Gallo bowed deep then started to gather all the soldiers to activate their Ivictus orbs. Soon, flickering lights weaved themselves along the branches and flew up in the sky. They all headed north of the western hemisphere. Adamus gave them a small pray to guide them without any harm befalling onto them.
The Lireo's crown prince marched into cramped stone path, dodging branches and wet pools of puddle. The crunch of dirt gradually turned to soft footsteps as it only took him a few minutes to find a clearing. He finds a sandy base connected to a huge body of water. The horizon shows the vastness of the ocean that greets him.
Turning his head, he sees a large tree that offered shades to anyone willing to sit underneath it. There were minuscule chairs scattered around a withered and wrinkled human. The three feet tall dressed in white robes stares across heavy waves crashing onto the sands into the dimming skies.
“Imaw!” Shouted Adamus.
The old looking man named Imaw glanced at him and he waved a wooden staff he was grasping. “Avisala, Diwan Adamus. How nice to see you again. What brings you here?”
Tight lipped smile appeared on his face as Adamus took a space next to Imaw. “I’m leaving. Just stopping by to say goodbye.” Adamus watched the angry waves being pulled into the purple skies then pushed to dive into the sands.
“Hartu sanctu ade. Adamya is always here for you.”
Hartu sanctu ade: Bless you.
Imaw placed a hand on the feet of Adamus and dipped his head low. It was their way of giving their blessings. Outsiders would consider this as losing dignity as you bow your whole body to worship someone. But to Adamyans, it is their way of life, they would care for you with their life in exchange for helping them out and saving them out of harm. The Adamyans live with nature, and their lives are simple but they live life to the fullest.
That is something that Adamus can not.
“Avisala eshma, Imaw.”
Adamus activated his Ivictus.
In the speed of light a wisp of smoke was left in the place he stood. Within seconds, he appears outside the throne room of the royal palace. Two soldiers immediately flanked to his side. They were Gillo’s replacement when he had his seventh summers of celebrating his birth.
Ivictus: Teleportation that's usually run in the royal's bloodline.
The two were twins who was birthed by one of his mother’s closest dama.
Dama: Servent
“Avisala Diwan Adamus. Glad you’re back safely.” Said Pylo, the oldest of the two. He was followed by the other twin. “Our Queen Alena, your mother, is requesting for your presence inside the throne room. Please enter.”
Each twin waved their arms open, one use their left and the other their right. The duo’s heads bowed as they propped themselves with their spears.
Adamus softly exhaled and schooled his face with no emotions. Yes, these two were loyal to him, too but the Kingdom and its Queen comes first. His feet moved on its accord as the door magically opened itself. The twins followed behind.
A solder next to the door had announced his presence once he crossed the entrance.
Upon entering, he sees his mother, the current Queen of Lireo was busy chatting with a diwata who had their back turned. They towered over his mother by a couple inches. Their long hair was tied to their back, but what caught his eye was the streak of blue strands in the hair. Adamus brows curled in curiosity.
Crossing his arms, Adamus waited to be acknowledge. He knew that his mother would at least take five minutes for him to be introduced to the diwata. War was brewing and the basic training he was taught wasn’t enough. His mother’s busy with politics to teach him, and ashti Pirena and ashti Danaya were busy with their own children and Kingdoms.
Without looking to his sides, he asked, “Hiek, do you know the Diwata?”
The youngest twin looked up to his brother and eyed each other. Pylo shook his head. “Not really, your highness.”
“What do you mean? Do you kno-”
He was interrupted when his mother greeted him. Pearly teeth appeared on Queen Alena’s face, motioning her son towards her. “My son, Adamus. Come here. I have someone that I need to introduce you to.”
The diwata still haven’t turned their back but Adamus saw they were fixing the white wrappings around their wrists. His curiosity peaked even more. “Avisala, ada. Why have you called for me?”
She went back down to sit in her throne. Alena opened her mouth, “I know I haven’t been giving you training and you’re busy with other things. So, I found a better teacher to train you in combat skills. He will be with you day and night, if it comes to it. War is coming, son. We need you to be prepared.”
I’m introducing Calo to you Adamus. Head General Muros’ Hadi. He will be your teacher and trainer until he says you’re ready.”
Hadi: Nephew (?)
The diwata finally turned after the introduction, and Adamus was captivated by his striking appearance. The blue streak in his hear reached all the way to his roots. His dark brown eyes glints with a hint of mischievous in it. Calo’s grin sent down shivers down Adamus’ spines.
“Avisala, Diwan Adamus.” He bowed deeply with one arms crossing his abdomen. Then stood up again and walked closer to Adamus. “It is a pleasure to meet you.” The last sentence was uttered in low that he was the only one who could hear Calo.
His new combat teacher towered over him in couple inches, but his smile and cheerful personality contrasted with his appearance. Muscles rippled each movement Calo makes. The smile was still on his face. The diwata’s thighs were thick from training, Adamus would guess. Still, his mind drifted to the irking smile on the annoying face.
Something ticked Adamus and shoved Calo down. As soon as his hands touched Calo, a little sparked shocked him. He looked down on his hands to see any mark, but there was none. His eyes narrowed in confusion as his stare switch to Calo.
In an offensive stance, Adamus poised to punch Calo. The diwata on the floor blocked his punch and grabbed Adamus’ wrist. Blue streaked fae quickly move to overpower Lireo’s first prince.
Calo used his legs to kick himself up to put a distance between him Adamus so he could turn around and change his position. He’s positioned behind Adamus, his legs wrapped around the prince’s waist. His hands are now locked into his elbow covering the half Adamyan’s neck. Not even a minute, Calo had him in a chokehold.
“Adamus! Ssheda!” An angry Alena stood up from her seat. Her eyes starting to pool with tears and her cheeks redden. “Stop this fight immediately!”
ssheda: stop/halt
As soon as Calo let go of the headlock, Adamus had elbowed him in the stomach. He doubled over but kept the grin on his face. He let out a short laughter and bowed his head to Alena. “It’s my fault, Hara Alena. I was taunting him. Needed to gauge how far along he is.”
Calo did his best to calm the Queen of Lireo. His smile was infectious that even Alena stopped getting angry at Adamus. The more Calo talked the more Adamus hatred towards him increased. He doesn’t easily get anger by anyone or anything, but he realized it wasn’t him. It was Calo’s nonchalant and unserious way that gets Adamus.
“Hara Alena. I’ll excuse myself. I’m tired.”
Ivictus activated.
The throne room was silent after the crown prince left. Alena gave a heavy sigh and said to Calo, “I’m sorry for my son’s behavior. That was out of the usual for him. He’s always been a good child.”
Calo held his smile. “I’ll be fine, Hara Alena. I’ve been through worse, trust me. I mean my Uncle is Mashna Muros.”
Alena’s lips formed a thinly smile. She touched Calo’s shoulder and healed the numbing pain that was forming. “That should make the pain go away. I just wish my son could fight as well as his cousin. I fear that this peace is short. A war is coming and I can’t help my son if ever I…”
Sensing the graveness of the situation, Calo reassured Alena's ease of her worries and said, “My uncle has always been loyal to you and the kingdom. My loyalty will be to the kingdom, you and your son, as well. I will do everything for your son to stay safe. Maybe even staying at your son’s side everyday. So, you shouldn’t worry, Hara Alena. Your son is in good hands.”
Alena chuckled at the choice of words Calo said. “Avisala eashma, Calo. But, he hasn't let anyone get too close to him since. May luck be on your side.”
Calo’s smiles widened.
Some days have passed and Alena was beginning to worried about Adamus’ behavior. Adamus never left his room except for meals and bathroom breaks. She thought her son was possessed by a ghost and ordered him to take a test to determine whether he was.
He wasn’t.
Alena concocted some type of soup to see if he is actually her son or someone acting like him.
He wasn’t.
On the fifth day after the incident, Alena stormed into his room and demanded him to leave his sanctuary.
"You have to need to start your training today."
“Mother, is there another soldier you could hire?” Adamus sat on his bed, back against the backboard while reading the reports of Adamya’s territories that needed help or established autonomy.
Hands clasped together and shallow breaths, Alena marched to her son’s empty space next to him and quiz him. “If you tell me what is wrong with Calo. I will find another one for you to teach you. If only aldo Aquil was here he could help. But he’s been missing since…”
Adamus’ jaw clenched at the mention of his uncle’s disappearance along with his cousin Terra. But, it wasn’t just them. Lira and Mira were also missing. It has been many years and there were still no news of them.
“He…” Started Adamus, putting down the documents he received that morning. “I…”
Sighing, Adamus relented to his mother’s request. “Fine. When do you want me to start with Calo?”
“Oh, this is good. I’ll inform Calo that you’ll have your sparring session today after lunch!”
At least one of them was happy.
Meals came during lunchtime. Foods came and go on the table. Alena had invited his cousin to come eat with them. Pylo sat to his right while Flamarra at the other with Hiek at her left. Adamus found his cousin flirting with Pylo vexing. It didn’t take long for him to switch seats, with Flamarra loving the attention she was getting from the two soldiers of his.
Rolling his eyes at the sweet words his cousin was saying to the twins, Adamus played with his food. He dreaded sparring his new teacher, but he wouldn’t tell this to anyone. His thought were broken when he hears a giggling Pylo. Heaving a loud puff of air, Adamus said, “Mara, stop playing with them.”
Her laughter was irritating. “Aw, but they like me. Plus, I heard what happened to you a few days ago. So I need to gossip with them.”
“Great.” Adamus elongated the word as he pushed the fruits on his plates. “That’s why you’re here.”
“No, I’m here because Calo’s here. I heard from ashti Pirena that mashna Muros trained him well. He’ll be joining the ranks after he’s done with you.”
The Lirean prince sneered at Flamarra and opened his mouth, but Alena hushed him. Adamus casted a cynical smile at his mother to calm her. Flamarra whispered something into the ears of the twins and they both immediately left.
Flamarra took Pylo’s seat and initiated a conversation with Adamus. “Adamus, you really do need to train more. I’ve beaten you so many times, I’m worried about you when the battle comes. Peace doesn’t last long. We need to be stronger than ever in order to protect our love ones.”
As he listened, Adamus has more questiones to ask but he was afraid of the answers. That day was a blur and he knows it wasn’t his fault but that’s how he feels. The cycle keeps repeating in his mind. His line of sight wasn’t focused towards his mother or Flamarra anymore. He wasn’t even listening to his cousin’s advices.
Pirena’s daughter noticed this. “Hey, are you alright?”
Adamus thanked Flamarra for breaking his mind from thinking about the past. “Yeah I’m alright. Tha-” He was impeded to say his gratitude towards Flamarra as soon as he saw Calo. He was surrounded by many generals including his uncle. Gillo wasn’t with them because his troop were the first line defense team and Hathoria needed help in the northern area.
“Avisala Hara Alena, Diwani Flamarra… Diwan Adamus.”
Calo was fitted in a Lirean soldier uniform meant for training. Much like the other soldiers that showed up with him. The garment stretched enough that showed how physically fit he is. Flamarra gushed at his outfit next to his ears as she went on and on about his achievements when he stayed in Hathoria.
“Avisala, everyone.” Adamus, Alena and Flamarra all said it at the same time. This tickled Alena and made the ones still standing take their seats.
While eating their meal, their conversation revolved around the usual political reports for Hathoria, Sapiro and Lireo missions. The lunch lasted more than an hour but Adamus got bored halfway and excused himself. Alena was preoccupied with the other generals that she didn’t even paid attention to Adamus.
He thought when he sneaked out with no one caring where he goes, but Calo called out to him as he walked to the training grounds.
“Wait! Diwan Adamus, where are you going? Are you forgetting our training today.”
Turning, he glared at Calo and used his Ivictus. He popped and some soldiers in the training field were surprised at the unannounced appearance of their prince.
“Avisala, Diwan Adamus.” The soldiers in training went back to their what they were instructed to train.
There were wooden swords gathered inside a barrel. He chose which one was right weight, and began swishing the makeshift weapon in sequences he was taught. He had worked up quite a sweaty routine when Calo appeared in the grounds. The trainer was heaving but it took him couple seconds to even his breathing.
“You could have taken me too, Diwan.”
His swift and elegant actions turned into sharp and harsh movements. It ended with the tip of the sword pointing to Calo. “I thought you might need some exercise from eating too much of the food.”
Smirking, Calo questioned Adamus. His brows creased on his forehead. “You were watching me eat?”
Adamus sent a sneer to Calo. Raised his hand with the intention of striking the diwata in front of him, but Calo grabbed hold of the wrist gripping the sword. The experienced fae used his free hand to force Adamus to drop the sword stick.
Next move for the Prince was to catch the stick with the other hand and strike Calo. Again, his foe was quicker and evaded the swing and grabbed hold of both hands, now. Adamus clicked his tongue as he felt his the wrist pressure to drop the weapon. His attention was occupied in getting a hit that he didn’t foresee the space between them decreasing.
Flamarra spelled ivictus away from the table she had lost interest in. She knew that the missing couple were already in the training ground. Her instincts were always spot on.
When she reappears in the soldier’s training grounds, there were more trainees than the last time she was there. She looked around and saw two diwatas sparring with sword and approached them. Her eyes widened when she sees Calo hugging the squirming Adamus.
Flamarra went into fits of giggles . But, knowing her cousin’s skills, she decided to help him out. She pretended to bump into Calo, and in the process, Adamus had escaped his arms.
Calo groaned at the impact, rubbing his shoulder at the diwani’s ‘accidental’ body shove. Although Flamarra maybe young, her age is no match for her power. Her parents made sure of that.
Blue streak haired trainer sent her narrowing eyes and got two sticks from the barrel. “Alright. You two attack me.” Calo threw a stick at Flamarra and faced his student. He gave a cocky grin aimed at Adamus. “If one of you beat me. I’ll tell aldo Muros Adamus doesn’t need any more training.”
“Deal?” Calo twirled the stick in quick sequences that even Flamarra couldn’t keep up with it.
A short silence filled the three. It was quickly cut short. “Only if we get to use ivictus during training.”
“Ah, ah, ah. No, we have make sure you know how to fight without using it first.”
Adamus puff out in frustration. “Fine. Deal. There’s two of us anyway. Right, Mara?”
“I’m gonna give you two some time to plan your attacks and ten minute break.”
Nodding, Flamarra and Adamus planned their tag team. They whispered at each other their plans, giving advices at each other. Flamarra planned most of their plans since she was exposed to combat training compared to Adamus. The two launched themselves in battle formations.
All the while, Calo had his back turned away from them. He was mingling with other soldiers and was asking their favorite weapons. He observed the trainees in the vicinity had doubled.
Ten minutes went by fast. Calo was still having intense discussion with one of the soldier in which is the best way to kill a dragon.
“Calo, we’re ready.” Flamarra informed the trainer. In solidarity, both cousins clanked their swords together and made quick spins with their swords. Trying to intimidate Calo.
“Nice form.” Said Calo, pointing his chin towards Flamarra. Then he switched to Adamus, looking up and down. “You. Eh.”
The plan went out of Adamus’ head upon hearing this. He took a step but Flamarra pulled him back before he could take another step. “What are you doing?! Stick to the plan or else we wont win.”
Flabbergasted Flamarra look at her cousin like he grew another head. “You know he’s taunting you, and you’re letting him get to you. Focus on the plan.” She gave a harsh tap on his front forearms and made a defensive stance.
Adamus looked Flamarra then Calo, his thoughts wondered if he could just hole up in Adamya. Copying Flamarra’s pose, he went back to their original plan. The crown prince charge first, the sword being used as a decoy while taking advantage of Calo’s right side open. He aimed his fist but that was blocked. Flamarra then speared head on using her whole body, but Calo pushed Adamus and dodge the diwani.
“Nice trick.” Aimed at Flamarra, but he was staring at Calo.
“Ch.” Sounded Adamus.
The daughter of Pirena and Azulan, the leader of Punjabwe, wasn’t to be messed with. Specially since she could walk, her parents instilled her the fire and will to fight like a warrior.
Yelled by Flamarra, “Focus! Don’t get distracted, Adamus!”
The Hathorian Diwani attacked with her sword straight down and a punch to the side. But, again, Calo clashed again the wooden stick while turning his back in order to let Flamarra hitting the air. They’re tangled in embrace with Calo in front of Flamarra, her arms crossed by Calo twisting them.
Adamus took this time to make his move calculated by Flamarra. He crouched and used his legs to sideswept Calo along with Flamarra, in order for him to topple Calo in order to have the upper hand. It didn’t go as well planned as Flamarra wanted.
Next thing the diwani sees was the blue sky filled with clouds. She turned her head to see what was happening. Calo had wrapped both hands of his arms on Adamus’ leg and used his whole body including his legs to embrace it and twisted gently. Flamarra’s plan has began crumbling.
Their fight has gone on for at least two hours after their first tactic was beaten. After multiple switches of tactics. Calo still one, even when the fight was unbalanced.
“Okay, I have to let you two rest.”
Although Calo was showing signs exhaustion, it didn’t compare to the other two. The cousins were heavily panting and their chest heaving for air. He wasn’t a cruel teacher, so Calo officially ended their training. But not before telling them their weak spots and what they could do about it.
During Calo’s lecture, Adamus shot him dagger eyes. He rolled his eyes when he received a wink from him. Scoffing, he went from staring at him to watching tree branches swaying. The two swords both cousins were holding were abandoned once they collapsed on the ground.
The two were took their time from getting up. Laid flat on the floor, they felt the breeze on their skin, cooling them more than the cold marble.
“I’m going to tell Hara Alena get you a day rest. Then we start our training session with you Adamus. Up to you Flamarra if you want to join as well.”
Calo smiled at the work he had done. He was able to get them fight together and gauge their teamwork at the same time. What matters most is Adamus was willing to be trained now. Next for him to work is his issues. If he could find the problem, the Lireo's Crown Prince will be able to fight at his highest potential.
