Chapter 1: Mike and Michael
Chapter Text
Someone was in the restaurant.
Mike could see them on the cameras. Someone in dark clothes was stumbling around. Probably some drunk who had wandered in. Whoever it was, Mike had a job. He wasn’t about to let this person get him fired on his first night.
Mike left the office and headed to the dining room where he’d seen the man.
“Hey!” He called out when he spotted him. “Place is closed. You have to leave!”
The man had been staring at the stage, and now he turned slowly to look at Mike. Mike blinked in shock. Were the man’s eyes... glowing? The dim light and the man’s hood cast his face into shadow, but Mike could see a bit of dark hair poking out, and... was the man bleeding?
“S-Sir?” he called, putting his hands out slowly. “Sir, are you ok? Do you need me to call an ambulance?”
The man took a step towards Mike, his footstep echoing loudly. That sounded much heavier than any footstep Mike had heard before.
“Are you the guard?” The man asked. His voice sounded strange. It almost sounded like a recording or had some kind of metallic tone to it. “Why do they have a guard if the place is closed?”
“It’s not my business why they want a guard here,” Mike said, moving closer. “But they told me to keep people out. So you need to leave. If you’re hurt, I can call someone for you-”
“There’s no doctor what can fix me,” the man said. “No one can fix me. Not anymore. Not after what I’ve been through.”
He stepped through a ray of light, and for a moment Mike could see more of his face. He had large gashes going across his cheeks and down his neck. His shirt was stained with blood. Mike looked around for any sort of weapon he could use.
“They sent me here for a reason,” the man said, looking at the stage again. “But why? Where even is this? It’s not Utah.”
“You are miles away from Utah, Sir,” Mike moved again, trying to decide how to proceed. He thought back to his previous security training. “What’s your name?”
“Michael,” said the man. “Michael Afton... or what’s left of him.”
“Michael,” Mike chuckled. “It’s my name too.”
The man turned to face Mike so quickly that Mike heard his neck give a disturbing creak.
“What’s your surname?” He asked.
“Um...” Mike faltered. “Schmidt.”
“Bollocks!” Michael began to move closer. “What’s your real surname?”
“That is my last name,” Michael grabbed a nearby chair. “Stop! You come any closer and you’re getting a chair to the face.”
Those glowing eyes narrowed at him, but Michael did stop.
“Do you have a younger brother?” He asked. “A younger sister too? Does your dad own this place?”
“You don’t need to know about my family,” Mike frowned. “You need to leave. Now. Or I’ll call the police.”
“The police can’t help you,” said Michael. “They couldn’t help me, why would they help you? So defensive... I’m right, aren’t I? Younger siblings. Both dead. You were the one who killed your little brother-”
“He was taken!” Mike shouted before he could stop himself. “I didn’t...”
Michael blinked in surprise.
“Oh...” he said. “So it’s different. This place is different. What about Lizzie, then?”
“Who’s Lizzie?” Mike asked.
“Your sister,” Michael rolled his eyes. “Elizabeth. That Lizzie.”
“That’s not my sister’s name,” Mike said. “Forget this, I’m calling the cops.”
He began to run back to the office, and he heard Michael’s heavy footsteps behind him.
“Oi, wait!” Michael shouted. “I’m not done with you yet!”
Chapter 2: Same, but Different, but Same
Summary:
Since I have other stuff to work on, I think I'm gonna keep these chapters short and sweet. It should help keep me from losing motivation
Chapter Text
The phone wasn’t working. Why wasn’t it working?
Mike jabbed at the buttons over and over again, but the static and distorted sounds continued no matter how many times he tried.
“Damn phone won’t work,” he growled under his breath.
“Still trying to phone the police?” Michael chuckled from nearby. “Why not use your cell-” He fell silent. “Oh right... this is before all that.”
Mike sighed and ran a hand down his face. Just his luck. He finally gets a job and now he’s about to lose it because of a homeless man who share his name. He couldn’t lose another job, he’d never get a new one after this.
“This office is huge,” Michael said as he walked around. “Look at it! You are so spoiled, and you don’t even know it. The one I had was this tiny little thing, barely big enough for the desk and monitors. You don’t have the special doors, though. Is that good? I hated those damn doors in the old office, and where’s your meter for the electricity? How are you supposed to know how much you have left?”
“Ok, what are you talking about?” Mike finally snapped as he looked up at the other man.
Michael opened one of the lockers and flinched hard when he saw the little figurine inside.
“Even now I can’t get rid of you,” he hissed as he tossed the smiling figurine into a nearby trash can. “Screw you, Balloon Boy.”
“Hey!” Mike said. “What are you talking about?”
Michael gave him a look that showed he was not impressed by Mike’s volume.
“The office in the location I worked in,” he said. “It was different from this. I only had a set amount of electricity available to me for each shift. Inside the office, I only had the desk and monitors... oh, and you even have the same fan I did.” He switched it on, smiling at the gentle hum it gave. “But the doors could only stay shut by using electricity. Same with the lights. I had to use those to keep the animatronics out. If they caught me, they would have killed me.”
“Wait, what?” Mike’s eyes widened.
“Didn’t Phone Guy explain all this to you?” Michael raised an eyebrow. “You know... ‘the animatronics do tend to get a bit quirky at night’... ‘They’ll try to stuff you into a Freddy Fazbear suit’? Any of this ringing any bells?”
“No one told me that,” Mike shook his head. “Mr. Raglan told me the electricity is a bit iffy, but otherwise I’m just supposed to keep people out. No one told me those things could move or might try to kill me!”
“Your Phone Guy has a name?” Michael said. “Wow. But you didn’t get the big speech...”
He then went to the monitors and began to fiddle with the controls. Mike stared as he worked the cameras easily, using buttons Mike hadn’t even known the purpose of. This was a man who knew this technology and was well versed in using it. Michael frowned and tapped at the console in thought.
“No movement yet,” he muttered. “But... first night is always the easiest. Why don’t you have the doors and lights, though? Why can you use more electricity? Are the animatronics different too?”
He moved away from the monitors, still mumbling to himself. Mike glanced at the screens curiously. Could those things really move? They looked like they hadn’t moved in years. Was someone controlling them, or was Michael mistaken? And what did he mean that he had worked at a different location?
He looked up in time to see Michael spot the Celebrate poster on the wall. Michael smiled softly and crossed the office to poke at the Freddy on the poster. When nothing happened, he frowned again.
“Awe,” he sounded disappointed. “That’s different too...”
