Chapter Text
Cathal Bravecog relaxes deep into his bean bag chair. He’d describe himself as not having a care in the world, but others might argue that he somehow had less than that. Not that it mattered. He couldn’t care less about what they had to say.
“There’s nothing good on today…” Cathal thought to himself as he continued surfing through channels. Mostly just sellbot live shows like: “Mr. Hollywood Live!”, “Fireside Mingling”, and “Shaking Things Up!”. His father’s new cable package was… sadly quite a downgrade but, TV is still TV.
Cathal lets out a sigh as he continues channel surfing, still having no luck finding something watchable
Cathal hears a knock at his bedroom door , along with his father’s voice behind it
Allan: “Son? I’m sorry to interrupt but, if you have a moment, I’d love to have a chat with you.”
Cathal stands up from his chair, walks towards the door, and opens it
Cathal: “Hey dad.” Cathal says with a slight smile
Allan: “Ah, there’s my boy!” Allan says as he picks Cathal up for a brief hug, then sets him back down
Cathal: “So… What’d you wanna talk about?”
Allan smiles at Cathal gleefully
Allan: “So, I know we’ve struggled to get you a job in the past… Don’t worry, I don’t hold it against you son.”
Cathal: “Yeah… Sorry that never worked out…”
Allan: “Oh, you owe me no apology, son. Finding your calling takes time!”
Allan says with a continued smile
Cathal: “Thanks dad…”
Cathal turns around and begins to close the door behind him
Allan: “Wait, wait, wait!”
Cathal stops, turns back around, and looks back up at his father
Allan: “I bring this up because… A new opportunity has presented itself, and I think it might lead you in a direction that could finally click for you!”
Cathal’s expression grows slightly confused
Cathal: “...A new opportunity?”
Allan: “That’s right, son! You know of my prestigious position with C.O.G.S, yes?”
Cathal: “Uhh… yes?”
Allan chuckles slightly
Allan: “Well, since I’m so well respected there, I was able to get an audience with my higher-ups, and they’ve given me the ‘OK’ to bring you with me to work to see if you could become a potential candidate for employment!”
Cathal shuffles in place slightly anxiously
Cathal: “And… What would I be doing?
Allan: “Well, think of it like a sort of 'off-the-record internship'. Nothing is set in stone yet, it’s just a consequence free opportunity to see if working with your old man is something that could be appealing to you! I’d just give you some simple tasks to perform throughout the day. Nothing taxing.”
Cathal scratches the back of his head
Cathal: “...When would this be starting?”
Allan: “Tomorrow! Isn’t that exciting!” Allan speaks with a joyful tone
Cathal: “I guess.”
Allan: “Wonderful! We’ll have to be up at the crack of dawn if we want to be on time, so try and be up a little early! I’ll have some coffee ready for both of us before you wake up.”
Cathal groans quietly
Cathal: “...Okay Dad.”
Allan reaches down to Cathal and gives him a gentle pat on the head
Allan: “That’s my boy!”
Cathal grumbles, but can’t help crack a small smile
Cathal: “I’ll uh… I’ll see you tomorrow morning, dad.”
Allan: “Get some rest, son.” Allan says happily as Cathal goes to close the door
Cathal: “You too, dad.”
Cathal looks up at him with a smile before shutting the door gently
As he hears his father rolling away, Cathal lets out a sigh before he walks back to his bean bag chair
Cathal: “This’ll be… an experience… I guess.” he says quietly to himself
After sitting down, a wave of exhaustion washes over him, and before he knew it, he was out cold before even being able to turn off the TV.
