Work Text:
Amanda doesn’t know that Sonny is here. The 21st century feminist in her would either laugh at him for being so old fashion or eviscerate him for thinking that she needed the permission of someone, of anyone, to make decisions in her life.
But all the same, he called ahead to make sure that they would both be willing to meet him at the bench by the coffee stand about 2 blocks from the precinct. It was cold and clear but he wanted the privacy that the outdoors offered. And if this went side ways, he didn’t want to cry in front of the whole 1-6.
“Liv; Fin; thanks for agreein’ to meet wit’ me,” he said nervously as he handed a coffee to each NYPD officer as he sat down. His Staten Island accent came out fast and think when he was nervous and he hadn’t been this nervous since he waited for his Bar Exam results.
“What’s this about, Carisi?” The gruff Sergeant asked before taking a long sip of the hot coffee.
“Um…well, look, it’s about ‘Manda,” he started as he rubbed his neck.
“Is everything ok?” The brown haired Captain asked, worry lines creasing her face.
“Oh, she’s fine. She’s still seein’ her therapist an’ her moods are much more stable…more balanced, you could say,” he assured. “She’s happy and her stress level is much more manageable.”
“Oh good,” Olivia said as she exhaled the breath she was unintentionally hold.
“Look…the reason I asked ta talk to the two of ya was because…well, because I’m plannin’ on asking Amanda to marry me an’ I wanted ya blessing to do it,” he nervous ADA rushed out.
“You’re finally going to do it, Dominick?” Olivia asked, a smile spreading over her face. “You know it’s 2022 though, right? She doesn’t need anyone’s permission to get married.”
“She know you’re here?” Fin asked.
Dominick shook his head, “No, she doesn’t know. But I’m not askin’ for ya permission; I’m askin’ for ya blessin’. There’s a difference.”
“How so?” Fin asked as he cocked a brow.
Sonny took a deep breath. “You two, you’re ‘Manda’s ride or die. There’s no doubt in my mind that if you two told her not to marry me, that I’d be alone for the rest of ma days. You two loved her before me, cared for her before me, and I know that you two would do anythin’ for her and her girls.”
“You better believe it. And what makes you feel like you deserve our girl?” Fin asked, looking every bit the intimidating father.
“Fin!” Olivia said as she slapped his arm.
“What? If this punk is asking, I’m making damn sure he’s for real.”
“I’m for real, Fin. I’ve never wanted anythin’ more in my whole life and I swear to you on everythin’ that I hold to be sacred and holy, that I’ll never do anything to hurt or harm Amanda or Jessie or Billie.”
“And what do you hold sacred and holy, Dominick?” Olivia asked as her voice cracked ever so slightly. She could see the love in his eyes for Amanda, every time she walked into a room, every time Sonny looked at the blond haired woman and her two little girls.
“My love for my family, my faith…the work I do for the people of New York, the friendships I’ve made on the NYPD…and most importantly, on the lives of Amanda, Jessie an’ Billie. I wanna have Amanda as my wife an’ the girls as my children for as long as God sees fit to have me on this earth. I swear to you both that I will guard, protect and cherish those three with all that I have, including my life, if need be.”
“Why are you asking us?” Olivia questioned as she picked up Sonny’s hand.
“‘Manda, she loves Beth Ann and Jim but she’s never been their number 1. She picked you two as her family and not just because your squad an’ squad is family but because you both represent the healthy relationships she needed. She needed her big brother an’ her big sister to help her become the amazing, brilliant, caring woman that I fell in love with,” he explained, as his emotions rose in his chest. “Please?”
Olivia and Fin looked at each other.
“You know that if you ever put a hand on her or those two girls, I’ll empty a clip in your chest, right?” Fin declared as he leaned back on the bench.
“And I’ll help him get rid of your body,” Olivia added.
“Understood. So do I have it? Do I have ya blessin’ to marry ya girl?”
The two officers looked at each other for a full 5 seconds before Olivia replied,
“You do. She’s the little sister I never had. She’s one of my best friends and I love her with all of my heart. You’re sure?”
“I’m sure.”
“Let’s see the ring,” Fin stated.
“Fin!” Olivia scolded.
“I gotta see it to make sure this chump’ serious,” he scowled.
Dominick laughed as he pulled out a Tiffany’s box from the inner pocket of his overcoat and opened it.
“Oh you did good,” Fin smiled.
“Dominick, that’s perfect!” Olivia smiled, looking at the solitaire set in platinum.
“Ya think she’ll like it?”
“It’s prefect,” Fin grinned. “And you have it, our blessing. Of all the punk- ass men in this city, you’re the absolute best for her.”
“Call us when that’s on her finger and we’ll celebrate.”
“Thank you. This means the world to me and I know it’ll mean the same for ‘Manda.”
“Go get the girl, Carisi.”
The tall, lanky man nodded as he got up and left the pair sitting on the bench.
“Our girl is gettin’ married, Liv,” Fin sighed.
“Odafin Tutuola; are you getting misty- eyed?”
“What? I got one down and one more to go. A man is entitled to feel the feels when his girls find the right man.”
Olivia shot him a knowing smile.
“Come on, Big Brother. Maybe she’ll let you walk her down the aisle.”
Fin smiled. “If she doesn’t, maybe some day, it’ll be you.”
Olivia smiled, “Come on; let’s go catch the bad guys.”
