Work Text:
"Bye, Ali!"
"Bye Bobby!" Alisson waved to his friend, telling him goodbye as he got into his own car from across the street. The two had just finished off their training session with Klopp and the other players and Alisson was exhausted yet very pleased with how it went. Despite the fact he knew when he got home he'd crash on the couch and fall asleep he felt happy. Like his time was well spent and his body knew it.
He watched as the car's door closed and the engine started before he unlocked his own, intending to get in.
But then he spotted Darwin and his boyfriend walking out of the training ground, laughing and talking to each other.
He couldn't help but smile, it was a very sweet sight. He loved seeing the new signings get along with players. They needed it plus it only meant they were settling in well. Darwin and Alisson got along pretty quickly just based on the fact they spoke a similar language. He could tell the Uruguayan felt immediate relief when Alisson introduced himself in Portuguese and even more relief when Alisson explained how things worked. He even introduced him to the players. Mo, Dejan, Bobby.. Virgil too.
Virgil liked him right off the bat and Alisson loved that! That's what they needed in the club. They needed a family, not just a group of players that tolerated each other. With that you didn't have anything, least of all a team you can win with.
"Bye guys!" He told them, waving as well.
Darwin returned the smile and waved right back and Virgil did the same, just for a moment, before he continued his talk with Darwin.
Alisson just shrugged and entered his car, sitting down in the driver's seat and dropping his dufflebag in the back.
Darwin and Virgil walked towards Virgil's car and Alisson smiled, his eyes set on the two as they got into the vehicle.
He then focused on starting the car after they drove off and he got out of his parking space. He then finally set onto the road and headed home.
His hands tightened a bit around the steering wheel, the gentle feel on the engine working rumbling underneath his feet. Cars sped past him as he himself drove down the load. He spotted people talking, arguing, cars slowing down, speeding up. He drove past buildings and lamp posts, which lit up the world around them in a beautiful orange instead of the sun.
He hummed a gentle tune to himself, simply focusing on the road ahead.
It was important he did after all. Any wrong move could end in an accident no one wanted.
He dreaded even thinking about that.
It wasn't too long till he was back home. He drove past security after confirming it was him and he drove past the gates to his decently sized house. He parked the car and turned it off before yawning into his palm and getting out. He took the duffle bag with him too.
Pressing a button on his car keys it gave him two clicks in turn, confirming it was locked. His feet took him to the front door and he unlocked it. He then made his way in and closed the door after himself.
With a press on a switch the house was filled with light, showing him the beauty he lived in. He didn't deserve it honestly, it belonged to someone more important in his opinion. Not just some goalkeeper that played a game.
But hey. It is what it is.
He doesn't understand the hype he gets, he doesn't think he ever will. Others do, apparently.
Alisson's home was grand and sprawling, nestled within the tranquility of lush, well-maintained gardens, which he didn't take care for. A sweet lady he paid named Miss Lilly did it. High ceilings adorned with chandeliers created an air of sophistication, while tasteful, contemporary furnishings offered both comfort and style which Alisson absolutely adored. Large windows framed views of the grounds, and the darkness outside only made the glow more inviting. It was a haven of luxury and serenity, a perfect place to call home.
As for the layout: his home was both spacious and well thought out if you asked him.
The entrance led into a grand foyer with a sweeping staircase that ascended to the upper floors. To the right, a large living room featured plush, comfortable seating and a grand fireplace, perfect for relaxation and gatherings (which he didn't really have, he didn't appreciate too many people). On the left, a formal dining room with a polished table and ornate chairs.
Moving further into the house, a modern, gourmet kitchen boasted state-of-the-art appliances and a center island. The kitchen opened into a cozy family room, complete with a fireplace and views of the outdoor pool and gardens.
Upstairs, a wide hallway led to spacious bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, offering privacy and comfort for guests and, of course, him. The master suite featured a private balcony, a walk-in closet, and a luxurious bathroom with a soaking tub and a spacious shower.
You'd be surprised but that room actually wasn't his since he didn't believe he needed all of that. Whenever someone visited or when Virgil was over that was the only time that space was used. The closet just mentioned had combinations of his and Virgil's clothes but also spare ones for people when it was needed.
The home also had a study with rich wood paneling and a library, providing a quiet place for work or reading. A fully equipped gym, a game room, and a home theater in the basement.
All in all, as Alisson said, it was absolutely beautiful.
He decided that was enough appreciation though once the wave of exhaustion hit him yet again. He took his shoes off, leaving them with the shelves the other pairs were on and he made his way into the living room.
The bag was dropped onto one of the armchairs but he himself flopped down onto the couch right across from the tv. He sighed in relief and closed his eyes, just relaxing for a few moments..
Then he took his phone out, scrolling for a bit and just doing whatever. He really just wanted to be lazy and relax.
Though when his stomach started to rumble and telling him he was hungry he hummed and stood up. heading into the kitchen to get himself dinner. Either make something or get something out of the pantry, it didn’t really matter to him. One meal wouldn’t ruin him.
He unlocked his phone, sending Virgil a message and asking if he wanted to come eat with him. Just a simple ‘Hey Virg ❤️ Want to come over and eat together? I’ll make us something’ and he locked his phone again.
He made his way over to the fridge and was about to open it when his phone pinged. He looked back towards the counter and blinked, a bit surprised by how quick he responded.
He walked back over and picked up the phone..
Virgil: It’s okay, you just eat. Me and Darwin are hanging out
Oh. Well that’s okay! Alisson smiled..
Ali: Oh well he can come too, I’d love to make something for him as well
He really would. It didn’t bother him one bit that Darwin was with Virgil, if anything it made it better. The more friends the merrier. And boy did Alisson love his friends..
But then-
Virgil: No thank you, we’ll just order something
Ah! … okay..
Alisson frowned..
Well.. that’s okay too.. If they just want to hang out, one on one, that is fine by him.
Really it was
Ali: Okay! I love you :D
There wasn’t a response back. Not even a few hours later.
But that’s okay, Ali didn’t mind

“So I told him it should never happen again” Bobby finished off his story, “I mean, who cheats on a friendship test???”
Fabinho laughed “God, imagine looking up on google what your best friend’s favorite color is. How many can do that?”
The two laughed..
“What do you think, Ali?” Bobby wondered, looking towards his friend who was sitting right next to him.
The three were currently outside, sitting down in the back of Kirkby's, where the tables and chairs were placed just for everyone apart of Liverpool FC. They had mates in their hands and they were just sitting down, talking to each other and hanging out.
But Alisson wasn't focused at all, in fact he hasn't been for the past hour that they've been there. His mate was still on the table and it was still full. And it certainly hadn't been picked up since he had set it down. He had just been staring at his phone with that confused look on his face.
"... Alisson??" Bobby tried again but no response was given..
So he gave his friend a light shove to the shoulder which made his head whip to look at Bobby. "Hm? What?" He asked, confused.
"Are you okay?" Gabi go asked, "You look.. out of it, very out of it."
Alisson blinked "... Oh.. um, yeah just.." he looked down at his phone, "I'm a bit worried I guess.."
"What's got you worried then?" Bobby laid a hand on Alisson's shoulder to calm his nerves a bit. He knew how the other got when certain situations arose. "The match? Something at home?"
Alisson shook his head and then sighed..
"Darwin and Virgil didn't show up today"
Ah. Well that WAS true.
Both called in saying they were sick and couldn't come to training today. No one really questioned Because why would they lie? Made no sense.
"I'm sure Virgil and him are okay, you know how colds just happen" Bobby assured Alisson, "I mean when this type of weather happens it's bound to give colds."
But Alisson just sighed..
"I guess.."
Fabinho and Bobby shared a lot, both looking a bit worried for their Brazilian friend. They had to figure out what's up.
Fabinho cleared his throat, making Alisson look at him. His eyebrows were furrowed and lips were pointed downwards. He was sad and since it was Ali they were talking about it was pretty easy to spot it.
"How about we get your mind off of it, hm?" Fabinho smiled, "Let's go play some fifa inside, okay? Get off your phone for a bit."
Alisson hesitated..
But then Bobby cut in to help out "Yeah, come on. What's the worst that can happen? You miss a text? Or a call? You can just do it later. It's time to just take the weight off your shoulders. What do you say?"
Alisson stared down at his phone..
Still no response from Virgil.
He had sent texts a few since his last last response but nothing.
Last night, 7 pm
Ali: {sent a picture}
Ali: I made this :) Im gonna eat it
9 pm
Ali: Goodnight! Hope you and Darwin had fun!
Today, 6 am
Ali: Hey, good morning! ♥️
7 am
Ali: Hope to see you at training
Ali: Don't forget your water bottle ☺️
8 am
Ali: Hey you're not here, is everything okay?
9 am
Ali: I didn't know you were sick! Are you okay? Did Darwin get sick and you were looking after him so you got it? In any case I hope both of you are okay! ♥️ Love you
And now they were here. Alisson was still waiting for a response from his boyfriend.
Was he being too clingy? Was he bothering Virgil? Since he's sick he probably is, isn't he.
He looked at his friends and nodded his head..
He will just let this pass.
—
It didn't really get better.
By the time the two week mark hit Alisson had barely spoken to Virgil. And not only because he didn't answer his texts and he hadn't shown up to training in a few days.
But because Virgil seemed to be mostly ignoring him and hanging out with other people.
Like Mo, Dejan, Matip, Darwin..
But no attention was really on him.
Well.. okay that's not true. Virgil did talk to him. He did spend some time with him, even out of training. He kissed him on the cheek and held his hand. They were together, because they really were.
But something just didn't seem right.
It felt like Virgil didn't want to do what he was doing.
It felt like he was forcing himself to try and be with him
Alisson told himself he was imagining it.
But whenever he saw Virgil hanging out with others he doubted himself on that. He seemed fine with everyone else, especially with Darwin, yet when he was with Alisson it genuinely felt wrong.
But again, Alisson told himself he was imagining it. He had to be.
Virgil loved him.
He meant something to Virgil.
That's what he thought at least.
And as Virgil laid a kiss on his cheek he thought that he was right to do so.
—
Alisson stirred from his nap, disoriented for a moment as his phone's insistent ringing cut through the drowsy haze. He rubbed his eyes, realizing he had dozed off on the couch in his house. Groggily, he reached for his phone, his heart racing as he saw Virgil's name on the screen.
He was calling? Now?
His eyes spotted the time at the top of the screen and it read 2:44 am. It was late. Very. Virgil should be asleep by now.
With hesitance and uncertainty he answered and pressed the gadget to his ear.
"Hello?" Alisson mumbled, his voice heavy with sleep.
The voice on the other end was strained and tense. It was Virgil. It sounded unlike him. Virgil was usually confident when he spoke. Nothing could really out him off. "Alisson, we need to talk," he said, his words heavy with a mixture of guilt and regret, making Alisson tense up.
Something was wrong. Something was going on.
He could feel his body already heating up. He could feel himself already becoming more anxious with each passing moment.
He gulped.
Alisson paused for a moment, all trace of sleep suddenly gone in an instant. "Virgil, what's going on?" He asked. But he really didn't want a response.
Virgil hesitated, Alisson could hear it. He knew he was about to tell him something big.
Something that would tell him what had been going on the past few days.
"I need to be honest with you, Alisson."
No.. no don't do this to him. Don't do this to him Virgil, please.
"I... I cheated on you."
Alisson felt his heart shatter at the confession.
The words hung in the air, heavy and painful. His mind raced, his body tensed, and he struggled to find his voice. "You... what?"
Virgil's voice cracked as he continued, "I made a terrible mistake, Alisson."
A mistake..
"It was a moment of weakness, and I regret it more than anything."
Alisson's hand trembled as he held the phone to his ear. He couldn't believe what he was hearing, and his world seemed to crumble around him. He whispered, "Virgil, how could you..."
"Ali-"
"Who..?"
"What?"
Alisson's voice cracked "Who was it, Virgil, who did you cheat on me with? Tell me." He felt his eyes get glossed over with tears, but he didn't allow himself to cry. Not yet.
He needed to know.
"Alisson.."
"Tell me."
Virgil sighed "It was Darwin, I'm-"
Before he could finish his sentence, overcome with a mix of anger, sadness, and betrayal, Alisson hung up the phone and let it drop to the couch beside him. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he buried his face in his hands, sobbing quietly, each one tearing through his chest as if his heart itself was crying. His shoulders shook, and his whole body trembled as he huddled on the couch, cradling his head in his hands. It was an outpouring of pain that he could no longer contain.
How could Virgil do this to him? What did he do to deserve this? Was he not good enough? Did he do something wrong?
Did Virgil get bored of him?
Tears streamed down his face, mingling with the moisture on his cheeks.
Was he meaningless to the man he loved this entire time?
… He guessed he was.
