Summary
This is a gender-swapped re-telling of Jane Austen's Persuasion, set in the modern era, mainly in California. Andy Elliot is the son of a well-known show business family that has more name recognition than wealth or talent at this point in its history. Frederica Wentworth is the daughter of self-made Latinx entertainment lawyers. They meet in college, break up due to the interference of a family "friend," and are reunited by chance 20 years later... Only to end up locked down together during the pandemic. Along with a bunch of other inconvenient people, of course.
Frederica Wentworth is bisexual. This work is light on sex and heavy on feelings. There will be some very benign witchcraft, and lots of cursing.
This work is based very, very loosely on a story told by actor Chris Pine in an interview many years ago: Apparently, Pine won a spot at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), but he didn't go, because he didn't want to take out student loans. When I read this interview, I thought that Chris Pine was a coward. And it occurred to me that that's exactly what Wentworth would have thought. So what if Chris Pine was Anne Elliot?
