Field medicine

Summary:

Bakugou thinks that being the best hero isn't enough for him. Instead, his goal is to become the first combat medic to reach the top of the hero rankings. And this scares absolutely everyone.

Notes:

This is an idea for a work about Bakugo, if in canon he became interested in medical activities on the same level or even more than heroic ones.

P.S. English is not my native language, so the text may be overly simplified and may contain errors, for which I apologize.

Work Text:

○ As a child, Katsuki sees a TV show where the episode is dedicated to doctors who often have to work near the scene of emergencies or incidents caused by villains (it also mentions a few heroes who are able to provide medical assistance, although mainly due to their quirk, for example Recovery Girl )
○ This makes a big impression on little (+- five year old) Katsuki
+perhaps also influenced by the stories of some of the older relatives in the Bakugo family who work as doctors in the USA
+possibly the influence of the Almighty’s injury
+"I have to make sure that idiot (Deku) doesn't die"

○ Katsuki wants to become a medic first, not a hero
○ Bakugou is confident that he is strong enough to simultaneously avoid being injured during attacks by villains or other incidents and protect and heal those injured during the “golden hour”, and also become the best in that
○ So Bakugou strives to become a field medic and work near incidents in order to be able to provide the necessary assistance in a timely manner

○ Mitsuki and Masaru are good parents who sincerely support their son and will try to help Katsuki achieve what he wants. It doesn't matter if their son wants to be a doctor, a hero, or even decides to just help his parents in their family's designer clothing company, they will still support him in all this.
○ They absolutely give their child a huge anatomy coloring atlas for the next holiday when they notice his slightest interest in medicine

○ Katsuki is damn passionate about medical subjects, so although Bakugo hides it well, he is even more of a nerd than in canon, so as a child, Katsuki is more focused on other things and does not bully Izuku, there is no time.
○ However, although he did not participate in it, he did not stop it either. From Katsuki's point of view, Deku is not his friend and greatly irritates and interferes with him.

○ Katsuki still studies with Izuku at Aldera Junior High, but constantly goes to a huge number of additional courses, training and participates in many scientific competitions (or Katsuki either goes to study at another and more specialized high school (unlikely))
○ So Bakugou definitely doesn't have ANY time for crap with Izuku
○ Seriously, he is constantly busy, you can hardly see him. Even at school. Especially after it. He literally comes only to tests and classes towards the end of the year, just to get the minimum required attendance hours, although he still manages to complete all his homework and projects
○ Seriously, he studies a hell of a lot

○ Bakugou still gets attacked by the Slime Villain and absolutely hates it

○ Bakugo becomes more cynical and sarcastic than in canon
○ He is still the same hot-tempered, emotional, irritable and aggressive, but now it is more passive aggression and poisonous ridicule than open screaming, so from the outside he looks calmer, more indifferent and colder than in the canon
○ (it's damn wrong)
○ (he absolutely scares a lot of people, seriously)
+he's definitely sleep-deprived, like most medical students, although Bakugo is quite responsible about it, so he periodically corrects his sleep pattern

○ Since Bakugo wants to be a FIELD medic, he is not going to be weak or defenless. So yes, he is GOOD at fighting skills too. And at the canon level.
○ However, his fighting technique still undergoes some changes. Katsuki definitely has more skepticism and disapproval towards destructive large-scale attacks
○ Yes, Bakugou is still the same destructive gremlin, but now due to the fact that as a future medic he will have to deal with the consequences of destruction in the attack zone, he definitely does not particularly approve of the heroes using large-scale attacks in any proximity to civilians.
○ So all his techniques are more precise and narrowly targeted.
○ Yes, he is capable of devastating and large-scale attacks, but he doesn't want to, so he uses the same amount of force, but concentrates the explosion more on one point
○ This makes these explosions more powerful to everyone's horror

○ Bakugo is still taking the exam to enter UA, since even in the general education direction it is a damn prestigious school, and Bakugo will still continue to attend additional medical courses (lol)
+and this is definitely not affected by the fact that Deku, being a “reckless idiot who seems to be heading for trouble” announces at school that he will be enrolling in the hero course
+ Bakugou is definitely not worried, yeah, honestly (liar)
+They're not friends (only bakugou thinks so) and Deku is annoying, but Katsuki still doesn't want him to die
○ Katsuki doesn't witness the One for All Quirk being used because he was at the other end of the field and was too far away to see what exactly happened heh
○ Bakugou's results are definitely in the top 3 in both the theoretical and practical exams and he is literally one of the top applicants
○ However, he is still trying to get into the general course
○ The UA administration is definitely not happy about this
○ After a lot of persuasion, Bakugou still agrees to study in the hero course only because he was promised that during his studies his class would take an exam for a hero license, which would give Bakugou official permission to provide qualified medical care without waiting for him to come of age. passing the exam for doctors
○ He's still pretty damn unhappy though, so he's definitely acting more irritable to the management and everyone going forward

○ After the first check of quirks, Bakugou takes Deku aside and interrogates him on the topic “WHAT THE FUCK, YOU DEFINITELY COULDN’T HAVE A QUIRK, YOU IDIOT, I KNOW FOR SURE THAT YOU HAVE AN EXTRA JOINT, BITCH”.
○ Deku is forced to say the bare minimum, so he reveals that it was a quirk passed on by someone else
○ This is enough for Bakugo to back off and not pester Izuku about this anymore
○ Later, Katsuki gives a lecture that the person who gave Deku person's quirk had to make sure that Izuku wouldn’t hurt himself with his new quirk, so when they meet him, he should yell at him
○ Deku is confused

○ Bakugo uses more sophisticated and frightening (and bloody) curse words than in canon
○ He's still annoyed with Deku, but everyone is misunderstanding the reasons
○ Gets very annoyed with Deku.
○ And also the destruction that he brings both to the surrounding space and to himself.
