Please come back to me
Usagi was ‘miserable.’ That's all that she could think of. Her soulmate had been taken before her eyes the night she became Serenity. To be exact Princess Serenity the 9th of the Silver Millennium. They had been friends for a while and she wanted more but she was only fifteen years old. She was now sixteen and had more dreams of their time together on the moon; and memories in the bedroom. She flushed bright pink as she turned over in her bed and looked at her companion and friend, Luna who was sleeping peacefully next to her and stroked her head. Luna snuggled in closer to her charge, wishing she could do more for her but there's much a cat cannot do if they are not human.
“Well it’s no good laying here when I can’t sleep,” Usagi muttered to herself as she sat at her table and wrote a note on her bunny notebook for Luna to find when she woke. “I’m going to patrol alone tonight. I will call if anything happens. Usagi'.' She whispered her transformation phrase so as not to disturb her family and Luna. A pang of regret shot through her, Luna had been up at all hours for her sake, looking for any signs of Endymion, looking for any signs of ‘Mamo-chan,’ but so far had come back empty-pawed and full of apologies. Usagi would comfort her and say it was not her fault, although her heart burned with pain when Luna was like this, so tonight she would let Luna sleep. Tonight she would patrol alone, with no Senshi to keep her company. She needed time alone, to think, to gather her thoughts. To find Mamo-chan.
She deftly jumped out of her window and landed with barely a sound on the grass. She then took off running through the streets of her sweet little suburban neighborhood and headed to the urban limits of Tokyo. She ran into an alleyway and jumped up on top of the Fruits Parlor cafe and arcade so she could get a better view of the ground around her looking for any signs of trouble, any signs of ‘him.’ Even though she was exhausted she showed no signs of fatigue; she and Mamoru had been training together after they had discovered each other's identities as Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen. She was training with attacks and hiding her exhaustion. He was focusing on trying to awaken power other than his fists or his cane and roses.
Sailor Moon wiped her eyes as another memory emerged but she kept blindly running as it washed over her.
Flashback
Usagi was getting frustrated. She needed more than her tiara to be flung as there was always a chance of a particularly strong youma, a youma that had a hard shell that the tiara would not penetrate and destroy.
Mamoru looked over at his crush, getting frustrated and angry at herself. “Baka Usagi, you will never be able to defeat them at this rate you’re weak, you will never have more than one offensive attack.” Mamoru's eyes widened how could his sweet Usagi think of herself like that, yes Rei had been mean a couple of times but they always made up with ‘the great raspberry war’ as Makoto had dubbed it or with Rei putting Usagi in a headlock and play fighting until Usagi was smiling again. Mamoru stopped trying to get stronger attacks and took several long strides towards this sweet girl and hugged her from behind. He kissed her on top of her head.
“Usako, don’t ever let me hear you talking about yourself like that again,” he said through gritted teeth. He wanted her but she was still so young and innocent. Plus he wanted to speak to Usagi’s family first.
“I am a baka Mamo-chan, I can’t think of another attack and I’m worried one day my moon tiara boomerang may not be enough,” she let herself sink into him. She needed his comfort tonight.
“Then focus on me, Usa, focus on what you feel for me.” Mamoru knew he was going the wrong way but he loved this girl and would lay his life down for her and do anything to protect her.
“Mamoru, I love you with everything I have I want to protect you, be your confidante, your best friend, your lover, your wife and mother of your children one day, I love you my Mamo-Chan,” she said with tears rolling down her cheeks.
Mamoru smiled. “I am pretty sure that was just a confession,” he said as he turned her to face him he bent down his head to hers. “Then we will be together, princess or no princess,” he whispered. This would be the first kiss they shared while she was awake; he still felt a little guilty about that.
He gently took her lips and took the lead giving her small pecks on her lips until her mouth opened just a little enough so he could put his tongue in it was the most magical kiss their minds opened to a whole new world. They would face the world together no matter who or what got in their way. He suddenly pulled back and Usagi looked up, Mamoru's eyes were almost black with lust. “We should stop before I end up at the barrel of your dad's shotgun, I need you Usako but you are still only fifteen and I am nearly seventeen we are still very young and have our lives to profess our love,” he said his eyes full of regret
“I understand Mamo-chan.” She said hugging him. His warmth filled her up. “Mamo-chan, I think I can feel a new attack forming. She turned around and harmlessly aimed her tiara in the air. “Moon twilight flash!” she called. Mamoru smiled, she wouldn’t call herself a baka now. She jumped into his arms not realizing how much it made him desire her more. “We did it, Mamo-chan, we did it, I have a new attack!”
“Omedetō Usako, I knew you could do it,” he smiled as he let her down.
“Arigatou, it's all thanks to you Mamo-chan,” she whispered. She dehenshined as did Mamoru when they jumped down from the rooftop.
“Shall I walk you home, Usako?” he said, bowing and holding his hand out.
Usagi smiled brilliantly. “Arigatou Gozaimasu. I would like that very much,” she said, taking his hand.
End flashback
When Usagi came back to herself she was on top of Tokyo Tower, her moonlit silver streamers waving through the star-filled night as she kept watch waiting for a glimpse of her love.
As she surveyed the city. She heard screams of terror and raced toward them. She ran as fast and as hard as she could, her lungs were burning but people's lives were in danger and that forced her to push herself past her limit. She was alone and scared and didn't know whether the Senshi and their cats would get there before she had to fight this new battle.
She pressed the all alert button and just prayed they made it on time.
When she made it to the epicenter of the screams, Sailor Moon was confronted by a three-meter tall statue of godzilla that had been brought to life. She looked around rapidly and saw Endymion controlling the monster. Sailor moon swallowed her fear down.
“Endymion, put the statue back to its form. The citizens of Tokyo do not need so much fear,” she shouted with a shaky voice. Endymion froze and locked eyes with the blonde nuisance, the screams of the people becoming a static buzzing as their gazes held.
A whisper of a sound passed his lips. “Usako?” But even as he spoke, he felt all the hatred that had been forced into him consume him once again. He saw the crescent upon her forehead and sneered. “Fair enough, it was only to get your attention, so I could utterly destroy the sole person who destroyed my kingdom!” He waved his hands and the statue was back in place again; the ones that were unconscious in the street would soon recover; his true target had now arrived.
“That’s not true!” Sailor Moon gasped.
“Liar!” Endymion shouted. And he jumped down from the tall building causing the ground to tremor below him.
He clenched his fists and then opened them and aimed his attack at Sailor Moon, who dodged a painful blow by an inch. “I don’t want to fight, but this is not my Mamoru, this is not my Endymion,” she whispered. She wiped her eyes when she felt tears forming. She then looked up and faced him. “Moon Twilight Flash!”
Dark Endymion dodged the attack and then ran towards her throwing bolts of black lightning out of his hands, but each time sailor moon avoided and returned attacks. The lights of Tokyo going out one by one.
“If it wasn't for the fact that they are clearly fighting to their deaths, anyone would think it was a carefully choreographed dance,” A long haired turquoise haired girl said to her blonde haired partner, who nodded as she watched.
“Do you feel it too?” the blonde asked.
The turquoise-haired girl nodded. “We are meant to protect her but we have no power.”
“Hai, but who knows what's around the corner? Shall we go home, Michiru-koi?”
“Hai, ‘Ruka-koi,” the two women joined hands and walked away from the ongoing fight.
Sailor Moon looked up briefly and saw the retreating pair. “Haruka, Michiru. I will find you again soon,” she promised silently.
Usagi didn't take her attention from the battle for long. A heartbeat of distraction nearly got her killed. They were so close, almost touching as they fought; they continued to fight fiercely although both of them had wounds, some bleeding sluggishly from deeper injuries. “Mamo-chan I will save you,” she whispered as she pulled her wand out of her subspace pocket.
“Moon healing…” she whispered, but before she could get her final words out, Endymion disappeared back into the dark portal. Leaving her alone, staring out over Tokyo on her lonely vigil once more. She sank to her knees. “I was so close,” she collapsed to her knees and closed her eyes, letting a few tears fall until she let out a wail loud as when she was born; a lonely wail as she waited to be comforted. She heard footsteps.
“Princess. Are you okay?” Mercury’s voice was thick with emotion.
“Hime-chan, you’re bleeding. Sorry we couldn't get here sooner.” Luna’s voice was full of regret.
“Just hold me minna,” she said before anyone else could pity her. She was ambushed by four Senshi and two cats and sobbed. “Mamo-chan, Mamo-chan, I was so close. I failed!” Her sobs shook all of them.
“Sailor Moon you didn’t fail, the shard of crystal inside Mamoru would have amplified his powers and you didn’t want to fight him,” Artemis said, butting his head against her hand.
“I will fight him,” Jupiter said, putting a fist in her hand.
“We don’t want him to actually die, Jupiter.” Mars said, rolling her eyes while trying to comfort Usagi.
“Minna, let's help her restore the Moon Kingdom. Her wounds will heal and I think we could all do with a break from the earth. There are too many painful memories here,” Venus said.
Everyone nodded and stood up holding Usagi up with them. “On my cue, Sailor Moon, say "Moon kingdom, awaken." We will only awaken them now, the rest can come later. You do not need to mature so quickly,” Luna comforted.
They looked up at the sky and waited for the cloud that covered the moon. The wait seemed to take forever, the cloud sluggishly moved away with the gentle breeze that caressed it.
“Now Sailor Moon.” Luna said.
Sailor moon closed her eyes and took her silver crystal out from her chest. “Moon Kingdom Awaken!” she shouted.
Silver light bloomed from the comforting presence in the sky, nearly as bright as the sun at noon, for the space of a heartbeat, and then disappeared as quickly, but when they were all able to look once more, though nothing would have changed for the rest of the world, the group surrounding their princess could see the shimmering waters of Tranquility, the bright orchard of pink and silver trees, and the castle with it's small city, near the edge of the sea.
Endymion
One other person watched the rekindling of the moon kingdom. He was filled with hope as he understood his own kingdom might also be restored. His eyes were drawn to the princess, and for one moment fought free enough of the evil inhabiting him to feel happy for her. Then blinding, overwhelming rage swept over him once more and he pulled at the dark power to teleport away.
On the moon
As the Senshi went off to make sure the rooms were ready and the staff had everything they needed Usagi who was now Serenity walked to her rooms and headed to her balcony and looked down to the blue and green glass orb as she had done all them years before “Watashi no tokoro ni modotte kite kudasai” she needed time to think time to recover and time to regroup her senshi not just her four best friends that she knew already but the ones who would become her best friends as they had been then. The four inner senshi would be reunited with their soulmate and her with him and they would move forward together.
