Of What Matters Most

Summary:

No matter the season Hinata and Kyuu-chan enjoy their time together.

Work Text:

In the morning Kyuu-chan waited patiently at the table as Hinata cooked up their breakfast and prepared their lunch for the day. Kyuu-chan’s ears would perk up whenever it seemed as though Hinata was done with cooking and he had to laugh quietly at how patient the little cat really was.

Hinata presented fluffy pancakes to him, patterns pressed into the tops of them. The patterns on the pancakes were cherry blossom flowers, the same that they went to see just a few days ago. Kyuu-chan looked at them a little mournfully, aware of their ephemeral nature.

But Hinata told him that just meant they had many more chances to see them and he cheered up.

-

The summer heat was relentless, making Kyuu-chan’s fur puff up like a dandelion. Hinata would find himself wiping off his brow many times in a day, breathing out heavily as it felt as though his entire body was burning up. He could only imagine how it felt for Kyuu-chan.

Something had to be done to cool them down.

During the weekend he took Kyuu-chan on a trip out to the beach. Kyuu-chan didn’t go anywhere near the salty water but they shared shaved ice and enjoyed the ocean breeze.

-

Red, orange and yellow leaves fell down from the trees and Kyuu-chan would collect them on his way to meet Hinata at his work, like the little cat was collecting a bundle of jeweled treasures. Hinata figured that Kyuu-chan wanted to pick up the discarded and give them a home.

When it got particularly chilly, Kyuu-chan snuggled into Hinata’s scarf as he walked them home, he would think of how he first met Kyuu-chan. And he’d pull the scarf around them so that Kyuu-chan would never know how it felt to be freezing again.

-

Snow cascaded down from the dark sky, the sort of weather that inspired Hinata to make all sorts of warm soup so that they could be toasty inside and out. Hinata had gotten a heated blanket for the bed just to try it out but Kyuu-chan had kicked it off himself because it was too hot.

When Hinata settled down for bed he put the heated blanket aside into a neat pile. He gathered up Kyuu-chan into his arms. Kyuu-chan snuggled against his chest, and proved that to stay warm in winter Hinata really just needed his loving cat companion nearby.
