Chapter Text
This was it.
This was the day that he was going to propose .
Well? Sort of propose. More of a prom-posal if you will. And everything had to be absolutely perfect. He needed to make sure the setting was just right and everything was in order. From the flowers to the banner, he was hell bent on making sure this was the most memorable moment in their teens lives yet!
Granted they had just fought off Superfly, but he was sure he could make it a close second at the very least.
Waiting until after he knew Mikey’s improv class would end, he took over the entire empty hallway by the lunchroom where Donnie asked him to meet. Orange roses and tiger lilies surrounded Donnie on both sides, framing him in the middle beautifully. A portable speaker rested in his hoodie pocket, while he had a song ready to go for when Mikey would turn the corner to see him.
Now, Donnie would tell you in this moment he was confident beyond measure that Mikey would say yes, but the nervous glint in his eyes would tell the common onlooker otherwise. Playing with the drawstring of his purple hoodie his thoughts began to wander. Maybe there was something he was missing? Could he have done something more?
He had the flowers, the banner, the music on the ready, and he even wore the hoodie that Mikey had complimented on so many times before. As his thoughts wandered, he heard someone coming down the hall. Fumbling a little as he got himself together, he started the music and held the banner proudly.
The banner itself had the following written in purple and orange sharpie: “Will you be the pepperoni to my pizza and go to prom with me?” An absolute banger that he knew Mikey would love. Turning on the music, Donnie looked up to see Mikey walking down the hallway with the brightest smile on his face. His braces peeked through as his smile became more expressive.
“Donnie, what is all this?” He asked as if he didn’t already know, seeing the purple clad turtle get a tad flustered. The music played softly as Donnie presented the banner in front of his face as if to hide his blush.
“Y-you know what this is, Mikey. Read the banner .” He groaned.
“Oh, I read the banner. I’m surprised you didn’t go with something like, ‘Will you be the pizza to my delivery driver and go to prom with me?’ or even, ‘Will you be the missing slice to my pizza pie,’ something along those lines. A missed opportunity there.” Mikey teased, the smirk on his face didn’t seem to want to come off any time soon.
Donnie rolled his eyes, finally bringing down the banner enough for Mikey to see his face. “So, is that a yes?”
Mikey narrowed his eyes and walked over to Donnie with intention in his step. Leaning up, he kissed the other softly on the lips, catching Donatello off guard.
“Yes,” Mikey grinned cheekily as he kissed Donnie’s cheek. “ A hundred times, yes .”
Donnie’s face brightened, cheeks tinted a dark shade of green as he was stunned by the kiss, before realizing what he just heard. “...yes?” He asked quietly.
“ Yes ,” Mikey confirmed.
Needless to say, the walk home after they cleaned up the flowers was one where they never let go. Holding each other’s hand all the way back as if their lives depended on it.
