You feel the blinding light from behind your eyelids as you struggle to remain asleep. “Why are the curtains open?” you think angrily as you shift in your bed.
Rise and Shine love
You open your eyes lazily as you look over at your boyfriend whom you haven’t seen in a week. As the thought of him being there, right in front of you, registers in your brain, you jump up and engulf him in a tight hug almost throwing both of you on the floor.
Heizou!
Woah easy there. I am going nowhere
Heizou chuckles at your reaction as he hugs you back and holds your body in his arms. You push your face deeper into the blade of his shoulder and inhale his scent. Truthfully it smells like grass and sweat, but it is heart-warming nonetheless. You finally pull back and take a good look at your boyfriend giving him a wide smile.
Seems like someone missed me. I missed you too love.
Your eyes soften at his words. His tone is laced with sadness as he mentions how much he missed you. Those nights in the office or out in the wild far away from home must be hard on him, especially with no one to comfort him…
Have you had any food yet? I bet you are hungry. Have they been feeding you well at your job? I bet not.
Heizou chuckles as you rush to the kitchen whipping up some homemade bread you baked yesterday and some leftover soup with some frozen dumplings. He follows you and watches you rush trying to set up the meal as fast as possible. Cooking has always been your love language, and heizou can't complain. Especially when the food tastes amazing.
It is fine my love, at least I got to see you. And the pita bread you packed me before the trip lasted me a while.
You smile knowing your lover had some homemade food instead of those canned beans the guys at the Tenryou commission eat whenever they are on the field. After a filling meal, you lay with heizou on the couch. He places his head in your embrace as you play with his hair, and purrs gently at the soft contact.
I missed this
You smile at his words, but your heart is soon filled with sadness because you know what he had to go through this past week.
Well you are here now, we can lay here for as much as you want
You say with a chuckle trying to lighten the mood. It is good to focus on the moment. Especially since this won’t be the last time heizou has to leave for a while. He often has to risk his life following the thread of criminals and coming face to face with evil maniacs. The thought of it makes you shudder. Heizou notices the tenseness of your touch and he raises his head to look at you. You quickly shoot him a deflecting smile pretending everything is okay. But you cannot lie to the famous detective of the Tenryou Commission. He sighs and hides his face in your chest and mumbles
I am sorry
You feel the sadness radiating from him and sulk
Heizou…
He sighs once more, this time deeper, and says
I really wish I could make it better, I really wish I could be the perfect boyfriend, and I know this is not ideal, I am just…I am sorry. It is so selfish of me to want you to stay. But I cannot do this without you.
His words pierce your heart and drive tears to your eyes. It is only on rare occasions that you get to see this side of heizou, but this time you could tell that he was truly torn by the distance his job places between you. You get closer to him and kiss his head softly. you can feel his skin shudder and your touch as he lets go of all the pain he has felt this past week.
He takes a second before speaking again
I love you, you know that right?... I will fight for you. Please fight for me.
You smile at his words and say
I can never leave you, Detective. You have already imprisoned my heart.
Heizou raises his head giving you a sheepish smile. He gets closer and kisses your lips softly communicating all the love and yearning he holds for you. You kiss him back and melt into the couch, engulfed in each other's embrace.
