To you, the Oni that never was

Summary:

[REDACTED] is having trouble coming to terms with stealing someone else's life. To cope with taking over the original owner's body, he writes a letter to the person who would've been.

Work Text:

Dear Itto,

My sincerest apologies for taking your place in this world. I never would’ve thought I’d wake up as a completely different person.

I write this letter as an acknowledgment of your ‘death’. While your body is living, breathing, learning, do everything you probably wouldn’t have thought possible, it’s both everything you were robbed of and everything you aren’t.

I don’t mean to say I’m better than you, far from it. While the version of you I know of can be called dumb, idiotic, and at times inconsiderate, I want you to know that at the bottom of my heart, I never hated you. In fact, you have some admirable traits.

You were always headstrong in confronting any situation, take it Takuya or the deepest depths of the chasm. While this worked to your detriment, it is nonetheless impressive.

You’re not the type to back down from a challenge. Even if you’ve lost a battle, 99 to 1, you’d jump for joy over even the smallest of victories. There are times where I’m up at night, wondering where you get your optimism from.

Most importantly, your ideals. Your opinion of the promise made between the red and blue Oni all those years ago, you never believed that the blue Oni had to suffer just for the red Oni to coexist with humans. I’ve done some digging on the nature of this rumor, and I conclude that I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment.

While I’m unsure of Takuya’s current whereabouts, I’ll do everything in my power to convince him that blue Oni can also coexist with humans. It’s the least I can do knowing the remnants of your will.

P.S. The pain I had felt when I merely touched a bean is comparable to a bullet ant biting my finger. If this is the kind of pain you went through having them thrown at you, I can’t imagine what’ll happen if I accidentally eat one. I’ll do my best to be careful of my diet knowing your allergies.

Regards,

(Whatever was written afterward is purposely obscured.)
