Work Text:

It was another typical afternoon at Greendale Community College, and the study group had gathered in the library for their weekly study session. As usual, the atmosphere was light-hearted and filled with banter. Troy Barnes, known for his playful and mischievous nature, was in the mood for some fun.

"Troy, I bet you can't come up with a rap on the spot!" Annie Edison, the diligent and ambitious student, challenged him with a smirk.

Troy, never one to back down from a dare, grinned confidently. "You think I can't rap? Annie, you're about to witness the birth of a rap legend!"

As Troy started freestyling about his favorite things, the study group watched with a mix of amusement and disbelief. Abed Nadir, sitting next to Troy, couldn't help but provide some commentary.

"Troy, your rhymes are like a cat trying to dance – entertaining, but fundamentally flawed," Abed deadpanned.

The rest of the group, including Britta Perry, Shirley Bennett, Jeff Winger, and Pierce Hawthorne, burst into laughter. Even Annie couldn't suppress a giggle. However, the teasing didn't end there.

"Annie, can you top that? Can you rap?" Troy turned to Annie, a sly grin on his face.

Annie, always up for a challenge, raised an eyebrow. "Sure, why not? I'll give it a shot."

The group exchanged glances, skeptical expressions etched on their faces. Annie wasn't exactly known for her rhythmic prowess, and the idea of her rapping seemed almost comical.

"Alright, hit us with your best shot, Annie," Jeff said, leaning back in his chair.

Annie took a deep breath, steadying herself. She thought for a moment before launching into her rap, surprising everyone with her natural flow and clever wordplay.

"I'm Annie Edison, in the study group mix,
With a brain so sharp, I'll leave you in a fix.
Got my notepads stacked and my pens in a row,
When it comes to smarts, I steal the show."

The group sat in stunned silence for a moment, processing the unexpected display of talent. Annie continued with a confident smile, her rhythm flawless and her lyrics surprisingly sharp.

"Troy talks big, but his rhymes are a mess,
Like a puzzle with pieces missing, causing distress.
I'm the brains of the group, watch me shine,
In the world of rap, this brainiac's in her prime."

As Annie continued, the study group's skepticism turned into genuine admiration. Abed nodded appreciatively, Britta's jaw dropped, and Shirley clapped her hands in rhythm. Even Pierce, who often scoffed at the antics of the group, couldn't help but nod in approval.

When Annie concluded her impromptu rap, the room erupted into applause. Troy, who had started off the challenge with bravado, found himself genuinely impressed.

"Annie, that was... unexpected," Troy admitted, a wide grin spreading across his face. "You've got some serious skills!"

Annie blushed, the praise catching her off guard. The study group, once doubtful of Annie's rap abilities, now saw her in a new light.

From that day forward, whenever the topic of rap came up, Annie's impromptu performance became the stuff of legends at Greendale Community College. The study group learned that beneath Annie's studious exterior was a hidden talent that added a new layer to their dynamic – a reminder that each member brought something unique to the eclectic mix that made up their study group family.
