I was Quiet, but I was not Blind.

This is a One-Shot. Thanks To theseus for inspiring me to write This! ^^

Work Text:

Paradox sat outside in the garden on a quiet and warm evening, gently swaying on a hammock suspended between two trees. Xyrs hat lay over xyrs face, shielding it from the sun's rays. The atmosphere was tranquil, with the serene quiet interrupted only by the chirping of birds and the occasional scampering of a squirrel up and down a nearby tree. Paradox found solace in this peaceful setting, seeking respite from the ongoing fights and turmoil that had become a daily occurrence within the shack.

The cacophony of yelling and clashes within the shack was a stark contrast to the tranquility outside. Paradox couldn't help but wonder how the neighbors didn't notice the chaos. Yet, nestled in the heart of nowhere, near a forest, it wasn't surprising that the isolation protected their secrecy. It was unlikely for anyone to stumble upon the shack. Perhaps, those who ventured into the forest might catch faint echoes of screaming or yelling, but the fear that gripped them might prevent further investigation. The notion of following the sound, only to encounter the unknown, likely instilled a fear strong enough to send them fleeing back, never to return to the forest again.

Paradox hears and sees everything. Perhaps Spectral thinks Xe is blind, but that's far from the truth. Paradox is simply a reserved individual, not very talkative, as Xe doesn't wish to disrupt anyone's mood. Vo feels like a burden, fearing that saying anything would only worsen matters. Thus, the best course of action seems to be staying quiet and observing. It's a way to distance oneself from any drama, merely witnessing how everything unravels, each piece breaking down one by one. It's a painful observation, akin to watching a once happy family morph into a fractured mirror, reflecting a shattered semblance of its former self.

A complete mirror exudes happiness, reflecting all the positivity and joy imaginable. In contrast, the Shack serves as a mirror, but its surface is marred by cracks and stains. Blood now taints its once-pristine reflection, slowly disintegrating into shattered shards. Each piece that once formed a coherent whole is now fracturing, veering toward an irreversible disintegration. Can these fragments be salvaged, or are they fated to lay scattered, never to be reunited or restored?

The prospect of repairing the broken mirror looms, a daunting task fraught with the inevitability of missing pieces and misaligned connections. It's a painstaking endeavor, a puzzle with pieces forever lost and an intricate reconstruction that might never regain its former essence.

Yet, the thought of replacing it with a new mirror flickers. Could a new reflection replace the sadness with a fabricated semblance of happiness? Would the memories, the genuine adventures, be erased and replaced with artificial, hollow experiences? The answer resounds—no, that's not what's desired. The authenticity of those cherished moments, the stories etched in the fabric of reality, is irreplaceable and invaluable. A new mirror could never supplant the truth of the past, and the thought of fabricating a new reality is a notion too agonizing to entertain.

Even amidst the shattered fragments of the broken mirror, the memories persist, clinging to every shard. Holding the broken pieces in hand, collecting them becomes an instinct, a means of safeguarding the remnants of what once was.

And now, the connection to Paradox emerges. Paradox, amidst the chaos, endeavors tirelessly to mend the fractured family, even knowing the impossibility of restoring what has been shattered. Yet, Xe persists, unwilling to witness the family succumb to the clutches of the chaos-bringer, Spectral.

Spectral's intentions are clear—break the familial bonds, sow discord, and foster animosity. The malevolent being thrives on hate, disgust, and the annihilation of empathy. Paradox recognizes the looming threat and the desperate need for intervention. The urge to act, to step in and be the family's savior, reverberates within Paradox's being.

"Why aren't you doing anything?!" The question echoes through its thoughts, a relentless reminder that action is imperative. The urgency to step forward and rescue the family intensifies. Paradox remains uncorrupted by Spectral's manipulative web, positioning Xem as the potential beacon of salvation for the shack. The need to intervene, to save those they hold dear, reverberates within Paradox's being, a call to action that begs for a courageous response.

"BECAUSE I AM AFRAID!" Paradox's yell cut through the air, tears streaking down xyrs face, a raw display of overwhelming emotion. Suddenly, Vo lost balance and tumbled off the hammock, landing face down on the ground.

"I'm terrified to act because I know I'll fail," Paradox's voice trembled with a mixture of desperation and determination. "I want to keep this family together, but my fear binds me. I'm doing my best, okay? But for now, the only thing I can do is watch and listen, to keep my mouth shut. If I speak up, I might become the next victim of HIS scheme. I refuse to be a puppet manipulated by forces beyond my control. I'll be my own puppet, holding onto the one thing I can control—my voice."

Dusting the dirt off xyrs form, Paradox stood upright. "It's the best and only thing I can do right now. Otherwise, more harm will unfold. I know I could make everything worse, potentially dismantling the one thing we have left—our love for each other." The weight of responsibility and fear lingered in Paradox's words, a poignant acknowledgment of the fragility of the delicate balance within the shack.

Clapping resonated through the garden, and Paradox turned to see a figure approaching. "Wow, Para," the voice began, "I can call you that, right? Or do I need to stick with Paradox? No, I think I'll go with Para because all your friends in the Little Shack call you that. So, I'm allowed to call you that too, right?"

The voice then encircled Paradox in a hug from behind. "Are you okay? You hurt?" the person inquired with feigned concern, their worry evidently artificial. Paradox felt an unsettling chill creep down their spine, an instinctive unease, sensing something amiss in the seemingly caring gesture.

"Hello, Spectral," Para addressed without shifting position, a palpable discomfort lingering beneath the surface. Xe remained motionless, almost as if frozen in the unwelcome embrace.

"Heh, it's true. You're very polite, even when you know I'm your enemy. Are you always kind to the most malicious people? Aware of their deeds?" Spectral remarked, releasing the hug and pacing in circles around Paradox.
"Hmm, no reaction to me calling you Para? I suppose I can use that," he continued.

Para slowly turned to face Spectral, following his movements as he circled around xem. "Do you know what I like about you?" Spectral paused, standing directly in front of Paradox's face. "What do you like about me? I'm intrigued to know," Xe responded, meeting Spectral's gaze with a steady, albeit guarded, stare.

"You're quiet. That's it. That's all I like about you. You don't interact with the chaos I cause in the Shack. You just watch and observe, right?" Spectral tilted Para's chin upward, peering into xyrs eyes. "Y-yes," Paradox responded in a hushed tone. "I just watch and listen. That's all I do." Xe, trembling, attempted to remove Spectral's hand from its chin. "Ah, ah, no," Spectral interjected, tightening the grip. "I'm not done talking with you. And I like talking to people eye to eye. Your eyes are not up here so look up at me. Understood?"

"Understood, Sir," Paradox replied, a trace of fear evident in xyrs voice. "Being formal already? I like that. Now, what I wanted to say is that you're an amazing actor to the others. You might fake your emotions, saying you're fine, and you are able to fool them. But not me. In your eyes, I see fear and hidden sadness... You're scared of me, and I love that because that fear is holding you back, entwining chains around your mouth and body. Tell me, is someone holding these chains, or are they hanging on a wall?" Spectral asked, a smirk playing on his lips as he caressed Paradox's cheek.

"I... I don't know. Me, myself," Xe stammered, looking away before Spectral forcibly redirected Para's gaze. "Look. At. Me. When I'm talking to you," Spectral commanded, a tinge of anger evident in his tone. "Sorry," Paradox apologized in a subdued voice. "W-what actually do you want from me? Just saying that I'm weak and afraid of my own doing," Xe questioned, the words uttered after a moment of contemplation and hesitation.

Spectral's twisted amusement twisted his lips into a malevolent smile, and he savored the despair in Paradox's eyes. With a chilling chuckle, He leaned in closer, his voice dripping with sadistic glee.

"What do I want?" Spectral purred, his words laced with malevolence. "Why, dear Paradox, I want to bask in the delicious irony of your self-doubt. The fact that you see yourself as weak and afraid of your own doing—it's a delectable morsel for me. You're unraveling before my very eyes, and I don't even need to lift a finger to break you. You're doing a splendid job of it all on your own."

As He reveled in Paradox's torment, Spectral's amusement took on a sinister quality, like a deranged puppeteer relishing the performance of their marionette, each string of self-doubt skillfully pulled to elicit the most exquisite suffering.

Paradox remained silent, uncertain of how to respond or react to the situation unfolding before xem. "Para, you see what I am capable of, and I thank you very much again for not doing anything. I will take my leave now. Oh, and please enjoy the show I'm putting on. I'm genuinely hyped for your feedback. Goodbye!" With those parting words, Spectral vanished, leaving behind a heavy silence.

"I am quiet, but I'm not blind." The phrase echoed in Paradox's mind, resonating through the now still and unsettlingly quiet atmosphere. A profound sense of foreboding lingered in the wake of Spectral's departure, leaving Paradox grappling with a multitude of emotions and thoughts.

Paradox, grappling with the weight of the recent encounter, found solace in the lingering silence. Yet, amidst the tranquility, a storm of uncertainty and apprehension raged within. The encounter had left a haunting impression, emphasizing the dichotomy between Paradox's reserved nature and their acute awareness of the darkness looming within the shack.

As the hushed tranquility persisted, Paradox's mind whirred with contemplation, attempting to decipher the cryptic implications of Spectral's departure and the unsettling words left in his wake. The encounter had unmasked a veiled truth, stirring a realization that being quiet did not equate to blindness—it merely concealed a depth of perception and understanding that few could comprehend.
