Work Text:

Lucinda took in a deep breath of fresh air. Contentedly humming as she flew leisurely above the village of Dunwiddie. She'd always loved the feeling of the wind blowing in her hair, and the pure freedom that came with riding a broom. Even before she'd acquired her precious raven catcher.

Soaring over the town shops she paused when something, or rather someone, caught her eye. Curious she flew down and sat upon a strong tree branch a little distance away.

Just as she thought, it was their kingdom's very own royal sorcerer, Cedric. Who had just stepped into the local charmacy.

She'd often heard Sofia gush about the man when they were children. Going on about how amazing he was, and how much he'd helped her with her first sorcery class. To which Lucinda would smile and roll her eyes good naturedly. Though the witch herself never had the privilege of meeting him, until she had been among the ones to aid in freeing her friend from her amulet. A first impression that had certainly been very positive.

As time went on, they came in contact more often, and she began to see why Sofia seemed so taken with him. True he was a bit awkward, especially for someone who once aspired to be a kingdom usurping dark sorcerer. But there was an endearing quality to him she couldn't deny...

She watched as he stepped back out of the shop. Able to tell from his mannerisms that he seemed a bit frustrated.

A curious smirk spread on her face. Mounting her broom, she descended from the tree to see what the matter was.

-----

Cedric let out an exasperated huff, and put his hands on his hips. Well, what was he going to do now?...

Folding his arms as he pondered, he was quickly brought out of his thoughts by a voice.

"Cedric."

He looked up, brow furrowing as he turned in the direction he'd heard it. Only to see no one there.

"Over here!"

He turned again, and let out a short squeal when he saw the witch leaning on her broom in the air. Having snuck up on his other side.

"Lucinda!" placing a hand to his chest. "Merlin's mushrooms! You're as bad as Sofia sometimes!"

"Nice to see you too," she answered with a grin, stepping to the ground. "You seem grumpier than usual today. What's up?"

Cedric gave her a pointed look before responding, "Well, if you must know. I went to the charmacy to get some werewolf's bane, but they're fresh out apparently; and I'm currently contemplating where else I could obtain it."

"Werewolf's bane?" Lucinda quirked a brow. "Oh! we have a ton of that at home in our garden. I can give you some."

His eyes lit up, "Really?"

She nodded, then added, "For a price."

"Yes, yes, of course!" he'd already brought his purse anyway.

"Follow me then," she announced. Leading the way, this time on foot, to her family's home.

-----

Cedric looked around curiously as Lucinda set to work harvesting his requested herb. A witch's garden was truly a sight to behold. So unlike the perfectly manicured lawns and shrubbery at the castle he'd been accustomed to his whole life; with herbs and other plants used for magical purposes growing about in a seemingly chaotic he also had to admit, that there was a sort of wild beauty to it all, almost like being in another world...

"Here we are!" she announced. Snipping one more bit off with her garden shears into a jar. Before securing it with a lid and handing it back to him. "One jar of freshly harvested Werewolf's bane!"

"Excellent!" taking the jar from her and examining it's contents with glee. "Thank you, Lucinda. Now! What do I owe you?" reaching into his pocket.

"Actually," touching his arm to halt his searching, and giving him a grin. "I had something else in mind."

He raised a brow at her, "What?"

"Close your eyes."

Cedric considered her request warily. Indeed, it seemed an unwise decision to close one's eyes at the behest of a witch. But...as he'd been assured many times by Sofia, Lucinda was a good witch. So...

He obeyed. His vision now voluntarily obscured, as he sensed her approach him.

Suddenly he was met with the feeling of something soft and warm upon his lips.

Curious, he took a peek with one eye. Only to allow both to fly open when he saw that the young witch was kissing him. Her own eyes closed in contentment.

Lucinda pulled back, and looked at him. Amused when she saw his shocked expression.

"Sorry 'bout that," she giggled. "I just thought you'd be a good person to share my first kiss with. Turns out, I was right."

He just continued to stare at her, mouth agape. Eliciting another laugh from her.

"Well, see you around," she grinned, taking a moment to play with his bangs. "Say 'hi' to Sofia for me," arms folded behind her back as she returned to the house. That satisfied smirk never leaving her face.

Cedric watched after her dumbfounded. When he finally found his voice again, he started to speak, then stopped and shrugged. Thinking better of it.

After all, it wasn't as though anyone needed to know that that was his first kiss too.
