Work Text:

I've known it from the very start

Jason always thought his feelings for Piper were obvious, every time he made a point of being by her side even in the worst moments. He always tried to please her with flowers, gifts and even simple dates.

Piper herself also tried to be a good girlfriend even though she never had a boyfriend, she ended up relying on the cliché movies that her sisters loved and even some romance books and the way their relationship was going, Piper would say that she was making a good work and that his effort was worth it.

In the beginning, it was easy to spend time together, they both enjoyed it and it wasn't something that burdened either of them. Love was the only thing that sustained the relationship and it was the only thing they needed (or at least that's what they thought)

Halfway out the door, but it won't close

Everything started to go wrong, at least for Jason. It was one night when the two were just relaxing and enjoying each other's presence at Piper's house until she herself received a message from Annabeth, something in the line of the two going out together. with a few more friends. Jason never saw much of a problem with his girlfriend going out alone as he trusted her and her friends the only problem was the day.

“Jace, the girls are asking me out on Friday, I already confirmed that I’m going, ok?”

“Oh ok” it wasn’t ok, that same day they had both already agreed to go out to celebrate their anniversary, but the boy didn’t want to remember that, a relationship should involve both people trying, so he let it go.

I'm holding out hope for you to

The boy sees her getting ready to go out with her friends and doesn't say anything again, just watches Piper walk back and forth looking for something else.

“Baby, I’m leaving now, okay?” She says getting close to the sofa where Jason was “I don’t know what time I’ll be back, but I’ll let you know”

“Okay” there was nothing else he could do or say that would make her stay. Piper goes to her boyfriend and cups his cheeks, lifting his head and giving him a quick kiss.

"Bye love you"

"Love you too"

Why'd you whisper in the dark

Just to leave me in the night?

It was late at night when Jason woke up to a weight on the other side of the bed and a strong smell of alcohol. It was Piper. The blonde could tell that she was trying her best not to make any noise as she got close to him. The girl lies down next to her and gets close enough to feel her breath on his neck.

“I'm sorry Jay, I completely forgot about today. I'll try to make it up to you, I swear” She says in a whisper, thinking he was sleeping, but little did she know that when she got out of bed and went to the bathroom, Jason allowed himself to cry himself to sleep again.

I'm about to fold unless you

Say don't  go

In the end, Piper doesn't keep her promise and Jason has lost hope. He doesn't change his behavior either, his girlfriend doesn't seem to care. The blonde finds himself with no choice but to try to vent and tell his friend about his situation.

“I don't know what to do anymore, I completely changed my behavior towards her and it seems like she hasn't even noticed yet” Jason said in a tired sigh

“Jace tries to call her for a talk, maybe what's missing between you two is a little communication” Nico answered the call. Maybe he's right, the two hadn't really been talking these last few days and it was making some things difficult. Piper and Jason had stopped having their weekly movie dates, they no longer had flowers or dinner dates together. The boy wasn't going to lie, he missed all these things and maybe the right thing to do really was to ask him for a talk.

I said: I love you

You say nothing back

That same night, Jason's anxiety didn't allow him to wait long. As soon as he saw the brown-haired girl walk through the door, he watched her leave her keys on the table in the hallway and ignored the boy as she passed through the living room. When she was about to climb the stairs, all she heard was a deep voice.

“Piper, we need to talk”

“You can't wait until I take a shower?” the truth was that no, he couldn't, he had already waited too long for this moment. He had so many things stored in the back of his head that if he didn't let go it would overflow like a glass full of water.

“I don’t think it’s better, it’s really important” Jason tried not to sound too rude when he responded. He took a deep breath and began “Piper, I think we've been apart for a while and that even though we sleep in the same bed, you're very far from me, at least emotionally. I don't think this is how a relationship should be and I really want to sort myself out.”

As he spoke, Piper seemed too restless, as if she wanted to remain distant the way they were.

“Jason, you’re not wrong” she began “there are some things I want to tell you, I just don’t know how or if you’ll react in a positive way”

The boy started to feel a certain fear of what she wanted to tell him, could it be something so serious that she felt afraid to say it out loud? Had he done something so wrong?

“You can tell me, I promise I won’t judge you or get angry, allow me to help you. Piper Mclean, I love you and there is nothing in this world that can change that” it was true, the love he felt was the purest thing he had inside himself and he felt no shame in hiding it.

“That’s the problem” she didn’t say she loved him. She ignored what he had just said and didn't care.

“What do you mean Piper, how is my loving you the problem?”

“Jason, I want to break up, that's it, I no longer feel the feeling I had at the beginning, my chest no longer burns every time you kiss me. Spending time with you has become an obligation and I feel so guilty about it that I can no longer look into your eyes without feeling like crying” her eyes convey guilt, for a moment Jason wished she hated her, but he knew immediately that this would be impossible, especially when she looked at him with those big, brown eyes.

“I'm sorry for keeping you in this relationship” he gets up from the couch without even worrying about his things around the house. Piper still tries to talk to him, but Jason continues to ignore her. Without thinking twice, the boy goes to the door and walks out without even looking back.
