Gnomes & Kisses

Summary:

The tale of the twins' crush, Penelope, visiting the Burrow over the summer. Who will win her heart?

Work Text:

The sun beat down on the Weasley's Burrow, casting a warm glow over the enchanting garden where the family had gathered for a summer day filled with laughter and joy. Mrs. Weasley, the heart and soul of the bustling household, was bustling around in the kitchen, conjuring up a feast for her beloved brood. Meanwhile, mischief was afoot, courtesy of the mischievous twins, Fred and George.

Ron, the youngest Weasley, had just finished a spirited game of Gobstones with Bill and Charlie. Hungry and looking for a snack, he made his way to the kitchen, blissfully unaware of the plans Fred and George were hatching. The twins, however, had more than just pranks on their minds; a charming addition was about to join the festivities.

As Ron entered the kitchen, he was greeted by the tempting sight of freshly baked cookies on the counter. Eager to indulge, he reached out, only to discover the cookies were enchanted to play a game of hopscotch around his hand. Cue the uproarious laughter from Fred and George, who had positioned themselves strategically behind the door.

"Having trouble getting a hold of your snack, Ron?" Fred teased, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.

George joined in, a playful smirk on his face. "Looks like the cookies have a mind of their own. We thought it would be entertaining."

Rolling his eyes, Ron decided to let his brothers revel in their prankish victory and turned his attention elsewhere. Unbeknownst to him, a new player was about to enter the scene. Enter the twins' love interest, a charming and witty witch named Penelope.

Penelope, with her fiery hair and quick wit, strolled into the kitchen, catching the attention of both Fred and George. The twins exchanged sly glances, realizing an opportunity for some flirtatious banter had presented itself.

"Penelope, my dear, you've graced us with your presence just in time for the cookie ballet," Fred said, giving her a playful wink.

George chimed in with a charming smile. "Care to join the dance, or shall we save you a front-row seat?"

Penelope laughed, appreciating the twins' antics. "Oh, I think I can manage the cookie waltz just fine, thank you."

As the enchanted cookies continued their dance, the kitchen filled with a delightful blend of laughter, banter, and the subtle thrill of newfound connections. Mrs. Weasley, drawn by the commotion, emerged from the kitchen with a stern expression but couldn't help but smile at the scene before her.

"Fred! George! Enough with your pranks!" she scolded, though her tone held a hint of amusement.

The twins, undeterred, continued their playful banter with Penelope, leaving Mrs. Weasley shaking her head with a fond smile.

The playful atmosphere in the kitchen continued as Fred and George exchanged flirtatious banter with Penelope. Fred, always the bolder of the twins, couldn't resist seizing the opportunity to make a move.

"Penelope, my dear, I was thinking that this kitchen could use a touch of magic only a Weasley can provide," Fred said with a mischievous glint in his eye.

Before Penelope could respond, Fred leaned in, his intention clear. He aimed to steal a kiss, believing that a dash of romance would only enhance the magical atmosphere. However, fate had other plans. Just as their lips were about to meet, the kitchen door burst open, revealing Ginny Weasley, the fiery and fiercely protective sister of the twins.

"Ahem!" Ginny cleared her throat dramatically, causing Fred to spring back, a sheepish grin on his face.

Ginny folded her arms, her gaze shifting between her brother and the bemused Penelope. "What on earth do you think you're doing, Fred?"

Fred, never one to be easily flustered, replied with a playful tone, "Just adding a bit of romance to the summer air, Gin."

Ginny raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "In the kitchen, no less? Mum would have a fit."

Penelope, caught in the middle of the Weasley sibling dynamics, couldn't help but laugh at the scene unfolding before her. "Well, it certainly was unexpected."

Ginny smirked, clearly enjoying her role as the enforcer of Weasley family rules. "Romance is all well and good, but we have a reputation to uphold. Save it for the garden, at least."

With that, Ginny made a show of ushering Fred out of the kitchen, leaving Penelope with an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that. Fred can be a bit... enthusiastic."

Penelope chuckled. "No harm done. It added a touch of excitement to the day."

As Fred and Ginny disappeared into the garden, the atmosphere in the kitchen shifted from a flirtatious romp to a more lighthearted camaraderie. Penelope and George exchanged a knowing glance, sharing a laugh at the unpredictability of the Weasley household.

The sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a warm golden glow over the Weasley's Burrow. The enchanting atmosphere continued outside the kitchen, where George, ever the charmer, decided to seize the moment and take Penelope for a stroll by the nearby creek. The murmurs of the water and the rustling of leaves created a serene backdrop as they walked hand in hand.

As they reached the creek, George couldn't help but appreciate the picturesque setting. The babbling water, the dappled sunlight, and the soft breeze all combined to create a perfect moment. Feeling the romantic atmosphere, George turned to Penelope with a playful grin.

"Penelope, how about a bit of mischief by the creek?" he suggested, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

Penelope laughed, intrigued by the proposition. "What did you have in mind, George?"

With a flick of his wand, George conjured a blanket, creating a cozy spot by the water's edge. They settled down, enjoying the tranquility of the creek. The conversation flowed effortlessly between them, filled with laughter and shared stories. George couldn't help but feel a connection blossoming.

As the evening wore on, the conversation took a more intimate turn. George, feeling the magic of the moment, leaned in to kiss Penelope. However, just as their lips were about to meet, a sudden gust of wind rustled the leaves overhead. Before they could react, raindrops started to fall, gradually turning into a full-fledged rainstorm.

George and Penelope looked at each other, surprised and then burst into laughter. The sudden downpour caught them off guard, but instead of dampening their spirits, it added an unexpected twist to their evening.

"Looks like Mother Nature has a sense of humor," George remarked, his eyes twinkling.

Penelope grinned, her laughter echoing the sentiment. "I guess our romantic moment by the creek will have to wait."

Undeterred, George grabbed Penelope's hand, and together they dashed back towards the Burrow, the rain soaking them through. As they reached the doorstep, dripping wet and breathless, the sight of the Burrow's warm glow greeted them.

Ginny, who had witnessed their hasty return, raised an eyebrow. "Caught in the rain, were we?"

George, still catching his breath, replied with a cheeky grin. "Just a slight detour by the creek. The weather had other plans."

Ginny chuckled, shaking her head. "Well, Mum won't be pleased with you two tracking water through the house. Better dry off before she sees."

The trio entered the warm embrace of the Burrow, shaking off the raindrops and leaving behind a trail of damp footprints. Mrs. Weasley, bustling in the kitchen, looked up with a mixture of concern and amusement at the sight of the sodden trio.

"Goodness gracious! What happened to you all?" she exclaimed, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the wet clothes and disheveled appearances.

Ginny, George, and Penelope exchanged sheepish glances before Ginny took the lead. "We got caught in a sudden rainstorm by the creek, Mum. Just a bit of unexpected weather magic."

Mrs. Weasley sighed, a fond smile breaking through her stern facade. "Well, get yourselves dried off before you catch a chill. And mind you, don't track water through the house!"

As the trio dispersed to find towels and dry clothes, Ginny turned to Penelope with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Looks like you'll be staying with me tonight, Penelope. My room's just up the stairs."

Penelope nodded gratefully, following Ginny to her room. The warmth of the Burrow enveloped them, contrasting the cool rain outside. Ginny's room, adorned with posters of the Chudley Cannons and Quidditch memorabilia, offered a cozy refuge.

Once inside, Ginny couldn't contain her curiosity any longer. "So, Penelope, which Weasley brother has captured your heart?"

Penelope blushed, caught off guard by the direct question. "Oh, well, I...I don't know if—"

Ginny interrupted with a knowing grin. "Come on, Penelope. It's not every day a lovely witch like you joins our chaotic fold. Is it Fred with his charming antics, or George with his mischievous charm?"

Penelope chuckled nervously, realizing she was in for a teasing from Ginny. "Honestly, Ginny, I'm still getting to know everyone. They're both... unique."

Ginny raised an eyebrow. "Unique, huh? Well, you're in for an interesting time. Just remember, those two might seem like a handful, but deep down, they're good-hearted."

The conversation shifted to lighter topics, and the two witches spent the evening chatting about Quidditch, their favorite magical creatures, and the quirks of the Weasley family. The rain continued to pour outside, but the warmth of friendship and newfound connections filled the room.

As night fell, and the Weasley household settled into a peaceful rhythm, Penelope found herself grateful for the unexpected twists and turns of the day.

The next morning dawned with the promise of another beautiful day at the Burrow. The rain had cleared, leaving behind a fresh, crisp air that filled the Weasley household with a sense of renewed energy. In the kitchen, the family gathered for breakfast, and the aroma of Mrs. Weasley's cooking filled the air.

Penelope, seated at the table, enjoyed a hearty breakfast while chatting with Ginny and the other Weasley siblings. The twins, Fred and George, sauntered into the room with mischievous grins, their eyes immediately locking onto Penelope.

"Good morning, Penelope," Fred greeted with a wink. "Did you sleep well in our dear sister's room?"

Penelope blushed slightly, nodding. "Yes, thank you. Your family has been incredibly welcoming."

George, always quick with a quip, chimed in, "Well, we aim to please. Especially when there's a charming witch in our midst."

Ginny rolled her eyes, accustomed to her brothers' antics. Mrs. Weasley, bustling about the kitchen, glanced over at the scene with a discerning eye. She could sense the mischief in the air and decided it was time to intervene.

"Fred, George, behave yourselves!" she scolded, brandishing a wooden spoon like a wand. "Can't you see Penelope is trying to enjoy her breakfast in peace?"

The twins exchanged an amused glance before Fred responded, "Just trying to add a bit of flavor to the morning, Mum."

Mrs. Weasley huffed, not amused by their excuses. "Well, Penelope doesn't need your flavor, she needs a peaceful meal. Now, both of you, go find something productive to do and leave the poor girl alone."

Fred and George, not ones to back down easily, exchanged mock-salutes before retreating from the kitchen, their laughter echoing down the hallway. Mrs. Weasley sighed, shaking her head. "Honestly, those two. Sometimes I don't know what goes on in their heads."

Penelope smiled gratefully at Mrs. Weasley. "Thank you for stepping in. They're quite... persistent."

Mrs. Weasley chuckled, patting Penelope's hand. "Oh, dear, you'll get used to them. Just remember, they mean well. Now, finish your breakfast, and don't let those rascals ruin your morning."

The breakfast table returned to a more serene atmosphere as the Weasley family resumed their morning routine. Outside, the sun bathed the Burrow in a warm glow, promising another day filled with magic, mischief, and the unique charm of the Weasley family. Penelope couldn't help but feel grateful for the warmth and acceptance she had found in this extraordinary household.

After Mrs. Weasley's intervention at the breakfast table, she decided it was high time for Fred and George to contribute to the household chores. With a stern expression, she called the twins over and handed them gardening gloves.

"Fred, George, you're on gnome duty today. The garden needs a bit of tidying up," she declared, her tone leaving no room for argument.

The twins exchanged a glance, realizing that their mischievous escapades had caught up with them. Nonetheless, they accepted their task with a theatrical salute.

As they ventured into the garden armed with gloves and buckets, Penelope joined them, her curiosity piqued by the prospect of gnome duty.

"Looks like we've been assigned the glamorous task of wrangling gnomes," Fred said with a smirk, glancing at Penelope.

George added with a wink, "The perks of being part of the Weasley family."

The trio set to work, their banter and laughter filling the garden as they chased gnomes away from the vegetables and flower beds. Fred and George, despite their assigned task, couldn't resist the opportunity to engage in some playful flirting with Penelope.

"You know, Penelope, you have the charm to make even gnome duty enjoyable," Fred said, pretending to shoo a particularly stubborn gnome.

Penelope chuckled, swatting away a gnome that had clung to George's trouser leg. "Well, it's certainly more entertaining with you two around."

As they worked, the garden transformed into a lively scene of laughter and mischief. Mrs. Weasley, observing from the kitchen window, couldn't help but smile at the sight of her children and their new friend getting along.

As the gnome wrangling continued, Fred seized a moment when they were momentarily gnome-free to turn to Penelope with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Penelope, we were thinking of taking a break and going for a walk to the lake. Care to join us?"

George added with a charming smile, "It's a beautiful day, and the lake is a lovely spot. What do you say?"

Penelope hesitated for a moment, glancing at the mischievous twins. Despite their playful demeanor, there was a genuine warmth in their eyes that made her feel comfortable. "Sure, I'd love to join you for a walk to the lake."

With that, the trio set off, leaving the gnome duty momentarily behind. The sunlit path to the lake became a canvas for their banter and laughter, and as they reached the water's edge, the peaceful tranquility of the lake enveloped them.

As they strolled along the shore, the twins continued their playful flirting, making Penelope laugh with their antics. The lake sparkled under the midday sun, reflecting the joy and camaraderie of their newfound friendship.

The trio reached the serene shores of the lake, the water shimmering in the sunlight as a gentle breeze rustled through the surrounding trees. Fred and George, ever the charmers, found themselves unable to resist the magic of the moment.

As they walked along the water's edge, Fred glanced at Penelope with a playful grin. "You know, Penelope, there's something we've been meaning to tell you."

George joined in, his eyes filled with sincerity. "Yeah, something important."

Penelope looked between them, curiosity and warmth in her gaze. "What is it?"

Fred took a deep breath, his eyes locked onto Penelope's. "Well, I can't speak for George, but I've found myself drawn to you in a way that goes beyond friendship."

George nodded in agreement, adding, "And I've been feeling the same way. We both kind of fancy you."

Penelope's eyes widened, a mixture of surprise and joy flickering across her face. The confession hung in the air for a moment before George, with a soft smile, admitted, "We both want to kiss you."

Penelope chuckled, feeling a newfound warmth in her heart. "I wouldn't mind at all."

And so, under the enchanted sky and by the glittering lake, Fred leaned in first, his kiss gentle yet filled with a spark of magic. It was a connection that went beyond words, a sweet acknowledgment of the feelings that had blossomed between them.

As they pulled away, George, with a knowing smile, stepped in. His kiss carried a different flavor, but the magic was just as palpable. It was a shared moment of warmth and connection that seemed to transcend the ordinary.

The air around them hummed with newfound energy as they all pulled away, exchanging smiles that held a deeper understanding. The weight of unspoken feelings had lifted, leaving behind a sense of contentment and a shared realization of the magic they had discovered.

However, before they could delve into more moments of magic, a distant call interrupted the enchantment.

"Fred! George! Penelope! Come back here and finish that gnome duty!" Mrs. Weasley's voice echoed through the trees, a reminder that chores awaited.

The trio exchanged a rueful look, their lips still tingling from the magical kisses. "Back to reality, I suppose," Fred sighed, though a playful gleam remained in his eyes.

Penelope laughed, feeling a sense of contentment. "Chores can wait. We can always charm those gnomes later. Right now, let's enjoy the magic of the lake."

And so, with hands intertwined, they continued their leisurely walk along the shore, basking in the newfound warmth of their connection.

The trio reluctantly returned to their gnome duty after the enchanting lakeside interlude. The gnomes, however, seemed to have multiplied in their absence, and the mischievous creatures darted around the garden, making the task more challenging than ever. Laughter and banter echoed through the air as Fred, George, and Penelope tackled the chore with newfound energy.

As they worked, they couldn't help but steal glances and share knowing smiles, the magical kisses still lingering in the air. The garden, now alive with laughter and light, seemed to respond to the shared warmth of their connection.

Unbeknownst to them, Ron had finished his own chores and was making his way through the garden to check on the progress. As he rounded the corner of the shed, his eyes widened at the unexpected sight. There, behind the shed, stood Fred, George, and Penelope, their hands intertwined, caught up in a moment of shared intimacy.

Ron's jaw dropped, and for a moment, he was frozen in surprise. Then, he cleared his throat loudly, alerting the trio to his presence.

"Blimey! What's going on here?" Ron exclaimed, his eyes darting between his brothers and Penelope.

Fred and George, ever the quick-witted pair, exchanged amused glances before George spoke up. "Caught us, did you, Ron? We were just... um, discussing gnome strategy."

Fred added with a smirk, "Yeah, Penelope here has some brilliant ideas for charming gnomes. Team effort, you know?"

Ron, still trying to process the unexpected scene, raised an eyebrow. "Discussing gnome strategy, huh? Looks more like you were discussing something else."

Penelope, her cheeks tinged with a rosy hue, decided to diffuse the situation with a light-hearted tone. "Well, Ron, it's important to approach gnome duty with creativity. Keeps them on their toes."

Ron shook his head, unable to suppress a grin. "You lot are mental. Just finish the chore before Mum comes out and catches you doing... whatever this is."

The trio, grateful for the diversion, returned to the gnome duty with renewed vigor. However, as they worked, the atmosphere had shifted. The air buzzed with a shared secret, and Ron, though still a bit baffled, couldn't help but sense that something magical had transpired. The trio completed their gnome duty with a sense of accomplishment. Mrs. Weasley, unaware of the magical kisses and the behind-the-shed encounter, praised them for their efforts.

Lunchtime at the Burrow brought the Weasley family together once again, and the air in the kitchen was filled with the enticing aroma of Mrs. Weasley's cooking. The atmosphere was jovial as the family members gathered around the table, sharing stories and laughs from their morning adventures.

Fred and George, true to their mischievous natures, couldn't resist the opportunity to tease Penelope a bit. As they sat down for lunch, Fred winked at Penelope, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

"So, Penelope, any more brilliant ideas for charming gnomes?" he asked, a sly grin on his face.

George chimed in with a playful smirk, "Or perhaps you've come up with a new strategy for discussing gnome-related matters behind the shed?"

Penelope blushed, realizing that the twins were determined to keep the playful banter going. Ron, who had observed the earlier encounter, couldn't resist adding his own commentary.

"Oi, Penelope, I thought you were here to help with gnomes, not engage in secret meetings behind the shed," Ron teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

The twins erupted into laughter, thoroughly enjoying the embarrassment they were causing. Mrs. Weasley, busy serving the meal, raised an eyebrow at the commotion but decided to focus on the task at hand.

Amidst the banter, Ginny observed the scene with a knowing smile. She could sense that something had transpired during gnome duty, and the playful teasing only fueled her curiosity. As she sat down next to Penelope, Ginny leaned in and whispered, "What have those two done now?"

Penelope sighed, her cheeks still tinged with pink. "Oh, just some harmless teasing. You know how Fred and George can be."

Ginny chuckled. "Teasing is their second nature. But I've got a feeling there's more to the story. Spill the beans, Penelope."

Penelope hesitated for a moment before deciding to share the morning's magical kisses and the behind-the-shed encounter with Ginny. As she whispered, Ginny's eyes widened with understanding, and a mischievous glint appeared in her gaze.

"So, you and the twins have entered the realm of romance, I see," Ginny whispered, a teasing smile playing on her lips.

Penelope nodded, feeling a mix of embarrassment and excitement. "It's all a bit unexpected, but there's something special there."

Ginny, ever the perceptive sister, smirked. "Well, looks like the summer at the Burrow just got a lot more interesting. But you better brace yourself for more teasing. They won't let you live this down."

As lunch continued, the playful banter and teasing persisted, creating a lighthearted atmosphere in the Weasley kitchen. Fred and George, reveling in the chaos they had stirred, continued to make Penelope blush with their suggestive remarks.

Ginny, enjoying the spectacle, couldn't resist adding her own playful comments. "Well, love is in the air, and it seems to have a hint of gnome-inspired charm."

As the laughter and teasing continued at the lunch table, the inevitable reality of Penelope's departure began to sink in. With a sigh, she glanced at the clock, realizing that it was time to head home.

"Well, it looks like my time at the Burrow is coming to an end," Penelope said with a smile, trying to conceal the bittersweet tinge in her voice.

Fred and George exchanged glances, a shared reluctance evident in their eyes. They had grown quite fond of Penelope's company in the short time she had been with them.

"Leaving so soon?" Fred feigned a dramatic gasp. "But the gnomes will miss you!"

George added with a smirk, "And who will provide us with brilliant ideas for our top-secret meetings behind the shed?"

Penelope rolled her eyes, but the affectionate grin on her face betrayed the enjoyment she found in their banter.

Mrs. Weasley, catching wind of the impending departure, chimed in, "Oh, Penelope dear, you're welcome back anytime. We've enjoyed having you here."

As Penelope gathered her things, Fred and George couldn't resist accompanying her to the door. The air seemed to hang heavy with unspoken sentiments.

At the doorstep, Fred took Penelope's hand, his eyes filled with a sincerity that caught her off guard. "Penelope, you've added a touch of magic to our summer. We don't want you to leave."

George echoed his brother's sentiment, kissing Penelope's hand with a playful flourish. "Indeed! The Burrow won't be the same without you."

Penelope felt a warmth in her chest at their words. "Thank you, both of you. I've had an amazing time. But duty calls, and I can't ignore the beckoning of my own garden."

Fred grinned, leaning in as if to share a secret. "Well, you must promise to return before the summer ends. We have plenty more gnome discussions to undertake, after all."

George added with a wink, "And maybe a few more lakeside walks."

Penelope laughed, appreciating the mix of charm and genuine fondness that radiated from the twins. "I promise I'll be back before the summer bids its final farewell. Until then, keep the gnomes in check for me."

As Penelope apparated away, leaving a burst of swirling magic in her wake, Fred and George exchanged glances, a shared understanding passing between them. The summer at the Burrow had taken an unexpected turn, and the presence of Penelope had left an indelible mark on their hearts.

"We'll definitely have her over again before school starts," Fred declared with determination.

George nodded, a mischievous glint in his eye. "And perhaps we'll come up with some new gnome-dodging techniques in the meantime."

As they retreated back into the Burrow, the promise of more laughter, magic, and shared moments lingered in the air. The Weasley twins couldn't wait to welcome Penelope back and continue the enchanting journey that the summer had become. Little did they know that the days ahead held even more surprises and adventures, making the Burrow a place where the extraordinary became ordinary and where the magic of love and friendship flourished.
