Iolanthe lily potter was born on a calm november morning and was mostly a happy and loved child. That changed the Halloween before her fourth birthday when her parents were murdered by Voldemort. He attempted to kill the toddler to but somehow the curse rebounded and she survived.
The first person to find her in the rubble that was once her home was Sirius black. As her godfather he knew he had to step up now and take care of his best friend's daughter but his impulsiveness and anger took over and he gladly handed his goddaughter to Hagrid who was there to collect her on Dumbledore's orders. Hagrid brought her to her aunt's house and she was left on the doorstep. Meanwhile Sirius started hunting Peter the person that had betrayed his friends and caused Iolanthe to become an orphan. He managed to track him down but peter was prepared and blew up the street killing a dozen people. Sirius was arrested for the crime and send to Azkaban without trial.
Iolanthe was raised by her aunt and uncle but they hated her. They thought she messed up there clean image. It was made worse by the fact that she looked 'foreign' according to them. She had her father's curly black hair and olive toned skin. People assumed she was middle eastern. When she had appeared as a toddler rumors started going around that she was her uncle's affair baby. Because of this and her accidental displays of magic she was often mistreated and one day when she was only five her aunt and uncle took it too far.
In another display of accidental magic she transported herself to safety. The only problem was that Iolanthe didn't know what safety was but her magic did. When she was born her parents decided to do a blood ritual to officially make Sirius her godfather. These Rituals where ancient but had fallen out of favor and where now frowned upon as dangerous and dark blood magic. Because of the ritual Iolanthe's magic knew that Sirius was safe so that is where she appeared.
Sirius had been locked up in Azkaban for about two years when Iolanthe appeared in his cell. She was small hurt and afraid. It took him a week until somebody came by that could understand that she was not supposed to be there and an investigation was started. It was discovered that Sirius never had a trial and that because of the blood ritual he would not have been able to betray Iolanthe and her parents.
Sirius was released and gained guardianship over Iolanthe.
