Work Text:

(Y/N)’s eyes fluttered as they carefully sat up in their seat. Head spinning, trembling and cold. 'What happened?' (Y/N) thought, processing their surroundings. As they crawled outside of the car and looked at the side, they saw both of their parents were lying on the ground lifeless. They had gotten into a car crash, which then made them flash back to a memory of what had happened earlier before.

♡♤♡♤♡♤ FLASHBACK ♡♤♡♤♡♤♡♤

“Mom and dad are fighting again…” (Y/N) mumbled, sitting in the corner of their room. Glass breaking, slaps and screams in the other room were getting louder and louder. (Y/N) wanted to hide or run away from this place, but in the end, their parents would punish them much worse if they were to be found. The sound of footsteps coming closer to their door made them immediately stand up, bracing themselves from what was coming for them.

When the door opened, it was their mom, she looked tired and disheveled from all the arguments with their dad. “Hey lil shit, put on your shoes. We’re going out.” She slammed the door shut as she left.

(Y/N) immediately put on their shoes and quickly ran outside to get into the car. Their dad was already inside the vehicle, presumably after the fight. He smelled like alcohol which made their stomach churn. (Y/N) avoided their dad’s eyes through the rear mirror as much as they could and stayed silent or else he would start arguing with them too.

“You better not end up following in your stupid mother’s path.” Dad commented, slurring his words. “She’s a drunk and a bitch.” Then suddenly, their mom got in the car, the smell of alcohol much stronger and obvious inside. “You better not be fucking telling bullshit to them, you piece of shit.” Mom crossed her arms as she looked outside, waiting for the car to move. Dad only responded with a grunt as they drove out of the driveway. (Y/N) noticed that their parents didn’t put seatbelts on.

Then it went dark…

The muffled sound of people talking and beeping was ringing in (Y/N) ears. They didn’t know where they were, but the scent of antiseptic and metallic tang reminded them of the hospital. (Y/N)’s eyes slowly open, facing a colorless room with people that they didn’t know, but they looked important. “Who are you people…?” (Y/N) mumbled in pain.

Everyone in the room was surprised that they were already awake after the car crash. “Oh dear, we’re the people who helped you out,” the lady beside them said with heartfelt worry. “You got into a car accident and you’re a lucky one, barely scratched!” (Y/N) looked around the room, confused and puzzled. They must’ve passed out due to the stress they had bottled up for the entire day, especially now at the loss of their parents.

“What’s going to happen to me?” (Y/N) asked sluggishly.

“You’re going to be taken to the orphanage.” The doctor responded.

(Y/N) didn’t know what to say or feel about what the doctor had said. Should they be happy? Worried? Upset? They didn’t know, but they had hope that anyone who’s willing to take them will love and care about them more than their parents.

The people in the room waited for their response with uneasiness as they looked down and unresponsive. (Y/N) looked back to everyone with confidence. “That’s fine by me.”

♡♤♡♤♡♤ FAST FORWARD :3 ♡♤♡♤♡♤♡♤

"Welcome to the orphanage, (Y/N)!" The head lady said with glee in her voice. They stepped inside the building and it looked like a big school, making them feel anxious. "Thank you for the welcome… " (Y/N) mumbled as they looked down and scratched their neck. They just hope that no one bullied them for being a newbie.

"I'd like you to meet someone, little one. He even offered to help you take a tour around the place!" The lady placed her hands on (Y/N)’s shoulder and lightly guided them into the next room. They glanced at the lady as they continued walking. "I'm sure both of you will get along, my dear."

"Hello!! I'm Peter, nice to meet you!!" A boy ran up to them and waved excessively. He smiled wide and took (Y/N)'s hand for a handshake. "You must be (Y/N)!! I'm gonna be the one assisting you!!"

The lady just laughed and gave Peter a head pat for being too excited to meet the new kid in the orphanage. (Y/N) just smiled back at him. "Nice to meet you too, Peter. I hope we can be friends." They extended their hand for a handshake. Peter looked at the limb and back at them, immediately jumping on them for a hug. (Y/N) laughed and hugged him back.

"Of course, I'll be your friend (Y/N)! Your bestest friend ever!!" Peter laughed.

"Thank you Peter hehe. Do you want to start touring me around?" (Y/N) giggled.

"Sure thing!" Peter took (Y/N)'s hand and started speed walking to the next room. As they went, Peter described the orphanage as being one of the oldest ones ever and yet it still looked new because of the renovations from their earnings for community projects and donations.

Peter showed them around the orphanage and pointed out which one was their room, the bathroom and so on. They went inside the shared bedroom and walked up to a vacant bed then he pointed, "This is your bed! Don't worry, mine is just on your left! So you don't have to look far for me!"

(Y/N) sat down and smoothed out the folds in the white sheets with a sigh. Peter looked at them concerned and sat close. "What's wrong, (Y/N)?" Peter whispered, looking at their face and observing their expression.

"Do you think someone will take me and love me?" They mumbled.

"I'm sure someone will! Don't lose hope, bestfriend!" Peter made a peace sign after he called them that. It made them feel relief, like there was someone they could finally trust and be themselves with after a lifetime of neglect.

"Thank you a lot, bestfriend." They softly smiled.

Peter smiled back and hugged them. “Let’s go to the dining room, it’s almost lunch!”

(Y/N) and Peter ran down the hall, laughing and challenging each other on who was going first. Both of them arrived at the same time and laughed. It was then that the ringing of a bell caught everyone's attention in the room and all the kids went to sit in their usual spots.

Peter pulled (Y/N) to sit next to him as they waited for their turn to line up for the food. To fill the quiet, he started talking about the activities he liked to do and the chores they have within the orphanage. Soon, they stood up, getting their trays and lining up for their lunch. All the while he continued talking about his life at this place. (Y/N) politely just stared at their own tray.

The food wasn't anything special, just peas with cubed carrots, mashed potatoes with gravy, a bowl of beef broth and a cup of rice. 'Finally, an actual full meal… ' (Y/N) thought, picking up their spoon and fork though they were hesitant to eat.

Peter looked at them with worry, "Hey bestfriend, it's alright!" He cheered and gave (Y/N) a pat on the back. "Let's eat!" They both dug into their food and enjoyed every bit of it.

A few hours later, (Y/N) finally finished doing their chores and it seems to be almost dark. They nudged Peter to ask about the exact time for sleeping in and Peter replied, "Usually when you're finished with the chores! If you want to sleep in now, you can, bestfriend!"

(Y/N) had never felt so free to sleep anytime. Their parents fighting every night had made it hard to keep track of what time they could actually pass out. "I’ll go to bed now Peter. Today's exhausting, but it was fun and I feel very welcomed here." (Y/N) sighed as they gave their broom to Peter before they went off to the room.

(Y/N) walked up to their bed and patted down the pillow before they laid down. Instead of falling asleep though, they found themselves staring at the ceiling, noticing every small cemented dot and the details of how it was made. Fidgeting their thumb as their mind started to go adrift to thoughts of having loving parents, they moved to lay on the side and closed their eyes and imagined how everything would turn out if some loving couple adopted them.

The thought of being taken care of and treated with kindness made (Y/N) fall asleep happily. They just hope that they will be picked for adoption sooner than later.

♡♤♡♤♡♤ 3 DAYS LATER ♡♤♡♤♡♤♡♤

"(Y/N) good news!! A lovely couple wants to adopt you!" The lady cheered when she walked up to them. They were stunned as Peter started to cheer for them.

"W-who are they?” They stuttered in curiosity and nervousness. The lady just giggled and told them that the couple wanted to see them first. (Y/N) never thought they were finally going to get adopted before even a week had passed yet, but now they were quite excited.

"Can I meet them now?" (Y/N) mumbled.

"Of course, dear. Follow me and I'll take you to them." The lady smiled, placing her hand on (Y/N)'s back. However, before they continued walking, they looked at Peter with a soft genuine smile and hugged him. Peter hugged back with a good pat on the back.

As they let go, (Y/N) and the lady resumed walking on their way to meet their new parents. With every step (Y/N) made, their heartbeat would beat faster until finally they were face to face with the door that had an office sign plate hanging in the middle of it. They began to hesitate as they reached over the handle and stalled to open the door. Just a big breath in and out and they pushed it open.

“Hey there.” An older blonde man said, waving his hand and smiling.

“Hello.” Another older, but bigger man followed.

They both stood next to each other, letting (Y/N) collectively process everything. All they were thinking about was the appearance of both parents. The blonde man had sun kissed skin with semi-visible freckles, eyes as blue as the ocean and a brawny fit, while the other man was as pale as a ghost with hair like snow, shades of purple in his eyes and a bigger dad bod type. They were polar opposites of each other, that’s what (Y/N) thought.

“H-Hi, I’m (Y/N)-” they stammered.

“Don’t worry, kid. We don’t bite and the name’s Alfred!” The blonde man chuckled. “The big man over here is my husband, his name is Ivan.” He pointed to the man next to him. Ivan expressly sighed and nodded at them.

Alfred looked over to him and murmured, “I want them.”

“Они какие-то уродливые…” Ivan grumbled.

“Ivan… It’s what’s on the inside that counts.” Alfred smiled.

Apparently, they were talking about (Y/N) in front of them. They didn’t mind other than the fact that Ivan seemingly doesn’t agree to it, but they couldn’t tell. (Y/N) timidly walked up to their new parents and gave them a hug. Alfred expressively showed his approval by giving them a pat on the head while Ivan patted their back and they never felt so happy in this moment.

They adopted (Y/N).

Everyone in the room sat down while the lady started to go over the correct documents of (Y/N) and the agreement papers. She gave the documents to Ivan and placed the agreement and certificate of adoption in the middle of the table for everyone in the room to see. Both Alfred and Ivan read through the papers and eagerly signed both.

“Congratulations and the orphanage appreciates both of you for adopting from us!” The lady cheered and stood up to shake hands with both of the official new parents. (Y/N) was thrilled.

“Alright you, start packing up! We’re going home!” Alfred said with optimism.

(Y/N) sprinted on their way back to the room and conveniently found a bag under their bed to pack up their clothes in. They couldn't help but feel excited for their future with their new parents.

As they packed up, Peter came into the room. “I’m so happy for you, best friend! I hope we can still keep in contact.” He then gave them a long hug.

“Of course, you’re my first ever friend in my entire life and I’m glad that I met you!” (Y/N) responded. They faced Peter, looking at each other with contentment as they bid their farewells to each other with another hug.

When (Y/N) was about to open the door, Peter called out to them and said, “I’ll miss you bestfriend!”

“I’ll miss you too!” (Y/N) giggled and finally opened the door on their way to a fresh start of their new life. (Y/N) advanced themselves down to the lobby where Alfred and Ivan were waiting for them. They clutched the strap of their bag tightly when they faced them again.

“You ready to go home, kid?” Alfred said with a bright smile on his face as he reached his hand out in front of them. Ivan softly smiled and did the same too with his other hand. (Y/N) fixed themselves and held both of their new parents’ hands, walking out of the orphanage together. As they opened the main door, the bright light from the sun shined in their eyes, making a squeamish expression. Alfred and Ivan chuckled at their expression.

Carefully, Alfred took their bag and headed to the parking lot. Ivan stood next to them and waited. “We must buy you new sunglasses.” he noted, giving (Y/N) a pat on the back. They responded with a nod as they rub their eyes with a mumbled ‘thank you’.

Few minutes later, a cool looking car drove in front of them, (Y/N) was impressed by the looks of it. The car window facing them went down and Alfred was in their view. “You seem to like my ride, kid.” Alfred patted on the wheel and laughed. Ivan rolled his eyes and opened the car door for (Y/N), indicating for them to get in before Alfred started bragging about it. They eagerly entered and Ivan closed the door for them. He then walked to the other side of the car and sat in the passenger seat.

“Alright gang, we’re heading home!” Alfred cheered as he shifted the gear stick and started driving. (Y/N) looked out the window until the orphanage disappeared from their view and mentally said goodbye to it. The ride was silent, other than the radio playing classic songs from the 50s.

“Are you hungry?” Ivan asked when he looked back at them. (Y/N) felt slightly intimidated from his vibe and responded with a shy yes. Ivan hummed then faced Alfred. “Let us stop at a restaurant when we see one, Fedya.” he demanded.

Alfred giggled at the nickname and responded. “Sir, yes sir.” Letting his one hand do a saluting gesture.

After a long while, they stopped at a promising restaurant and went inside to order some food while Ivan told (Y/N) to look for a vacant table for all of them. They immediately found one at the end of the restaurant and sat there while patiently waiting for their new parents. They stared at the two and it seemed they were discussing a serious topic by the way Alfred expressed looked in their discussion. (Y/N) fidgeted to themselves and hoped that they were not fighting over it. After they talked, Ivan walked up to their table and gave (Y/N) a pat on the head, it seems like he knew that they were worried and sat in front of them.

Alfred soon followed, asking Ivan to move over and sat beside him. A waitress came by to give out the menus and took out her notepad to get their orders. Alfred ordered burger and fries while Ivan asked for eggs and biscuits with gravy. (Y/N) was struggling to pick their order due to their worry about the price.

Alfred placed his hand on their hand and told them to pick anything they like and not to worry about it. They shyly nodded and picked their favorite food. The waitress finished writing everything down and repeated their orders back to them, everyone nodded and she left. There was something odd about the aura between them at this moment, but they didn't know why until Alfred sighed.

“Hey listen, (Y/N)... There’s something that we have to discuss with you.” Alfred said sincerely. (Y/N) moved their seat closer to the table and listened to them attentively. Both of their new parents held hands in front of them, their thumbs caressing the other. ‘It must be really serious.’ (Y/N) thought.

“Maybe after we eat.” Ivan immediately added. With that, they all patiently waited until the food arrived and to lighten the mood, Alfred shared his part of the story on how he met Ivan and got together.

“This big papa bear was literally eye candy and such a heartbreaker in highschool! Of course as most know me, I never give up that easily especially if I knew in my gut that we were meant to be!” Alfred laughed as he nudged Ivan about it.

“Do not listen to the crazy man, he loves making everything up.” Ivan teased. Alfred made an audible gasp at such an accusation and it made (Y/N) giggle at their antics. They loved their new parents by the way they genuinely showed how much they loved and cared for each other despite the ups and downs in most relationships. (Y/N) finished their plate as they continuously listened to their stories, laughing and teasing each other. As they all sigh from laughter, Ivan placed his hand on (Y/N)’s. “Are you ready for that discussion we mentioned earlier…?” He softly spoke assuringly.

They looked at Ivan then to Alfred and carefully held Ivan’s hand with both of their hands. “I’m ready.”

“We are very sorry about what had happened,” Ivan mumbled.

(Y/N) looked at them confused.

“We’re the ones who had caused the crash, (Y/N).” Alfred added.

(Y/N) went silent, they didn't know what to say or do about this information, but they slightly gripped Ivan’s hand and he sighed from it because he knew that they were going to react like that.

“We felt bad that you had to go through that and we decided to adopt you when we found out they had taken you to the orphanage when we missed you during our visit to the hospital.” Alfred continued.

(Y/N) started having flashbacks about that day and how their real parents treated them on a daily basis. They held back their tears and attempted to hide their emotions. They were all silent for a while until quiet sobs came out of (Y/N). Alfred instinctively sat next to (Y/N), made them lean on his chest, petting their hair to calm them down and assuring them that it was going to be okay.

“Thank you…” (Y/N) whispered. Alfred stopped petting their hair.

“What do you mean? What are you thankful for?” Alfred asked in a confused tone.

“Thank you for saving me.” They continued.

Alfred and Ivan looked at each other, still confused. How did they save them when they were the reason why they became an orphan in the first place? They both started thinking about the possibilities on why they would thank them, but they didn’t want to touch that topic yet with them. (Y/N) stopped sobbing and held both of their parent’s hands.

“I’m just glad that I have loving parents now.” (Y/N) said proudly and smiled.

“You’re gonna be loved and cared for, (Y/N). We promise.” Alfred assured and Ivan hummed.

They all stood up and hugged together. Everyone looked at them and cheered, they seemed to have overheard their discussion. Alfred shyly laughed while Ivan tries to hide his embarrassed expression, (Y/N) was just as happy as they were.

Ivan immediately called the waitress for the tab so that they all could leave the restaurant because he can’t handle such an embarrassing feeling. In a minute, the waitress came with the bill and Alfred immediately paid it, telling them to keep the change. He knew his husband couldn't handle the sudden attention and it made him laugh. (Y/N) only giggled most of the time as they all left the restaurant.

“I told you that we should have talked about this at home.” Ivan said grumpily towards Alfred.

“Hey, I couldn't handle keeping the truth from (Y/N) that long! You know this!” Alfred responded back.

Even after a serious discussion, they were still as goofy as ever. Chuckling at their silly antics again, “It’s okay,” they added. “I’m happy.” Hugging both of them again before they all walked back to the car.

As they all entered, Alfred started the car, fixing the rear mirror and winked at (Y/N) then laughed. Ivan looked back to (Y/N) and reached out to hold their hand as well.

“Alright, everyone ready to go home together as a family?” Alfred cheered.

“Ready.” Ivan and (Y/N) said in unison.

“Then let’s go!!!”

the inspiration was my old shitpost

also Ivan called (Y/N) ugly in that Russian sentence
