Work Text:

Golden light filled the room, sneaking through the luscious curtains; covering the tall, spacious windows. The early morning had Draco and Harry's flat surrounded in a soft, warming aura. The soft sounds of a cat purring could be heard in the living room, mixed with the light and comforting sound of birds chirping at each other outside, grateful for the other's existence.

That's how it normally was in the mornings within the Potter-Malfoy household on the weekends. Where the house was filled with comforting silence, only broken by soft, meaningful whispers, creaks in the floor caused by fuzzy sock covered feet as the two boys danced hand in hand. The soft sound of their favorite jazz record playing through the house, seeping under the wooden doors, through the slightly cracked windows and into the early spring morning, blending with the slight dew collecting on the beautiful flowers within Dracos garden. A light layer of dew covering the vintage car Harry was currently fixing up, the drops clear and visible on the bright paint of the 1974 convertible. He had gotten it recently as an early birthday present from Ron and Hermione, it was currently his biggest project yet.

It was around six in the morning when Harry stirred awake slowly, stretching with a quiet groan. He sighed softly, pressing a soft and loving kiss to the top of Draco’s head before unwrapping his arms from around his lover's waist. Harry lazily grabbed his glasses, sliding them on his face and turning around slightly, taking another glance at Draco’s sleeping form. Draco’s exposed skin was beautiful in the warm, glistening light that engulfed the room. Harry felt his lips form into a smile of adoration, his mind filled with thoughts of how grateful he was that Draco was his, his husband.

Harry stood from the bed, his fluffy sock covered feet meeting the ground. He grabbed his phone, pocketing it and making his way to the bedroom door. As he touched his palm to the cold door, he took one last glance at Draco, before opening the door as quietly as he could and stepping out into the rest of the home.

As Harry walked down the hallway and into the open living area, he heard a quiet chirp, and paws scampering across the hardwood floor. Harry looked down, smiling at the fluffy white kitten that rubbed against his leg. “Good Morning to you too, Hedwig.” Harry said gently, bending down and scooping the kitten into his arms. He planted a kiss on the tip of Hedwig's small nose, and smiled at the adorable meow the kitten let out soon after. He held her close as he made his way into the kitchen, placing her down in front of her food bowl. Harry chuckled lightly at the meow she let out in protest of being put down. “You’re such a diva, Hed. Don't worry, I'll pick you up again soon” said Harry as he filled Hedwig's food bowl with a bit of catfood.

As Hedwig ate away at her food, Harry made his way across the kitchen, stopping in front of a small record player; It had a The Smashing Pumpkins record in it from the night before. Harry smiled as he recalled the events that happened last night, when their house was filled with the sound of their warm laughter, the taste of homemade apple pie still fresh on their tongues. Harry replaced the The Smashing Pumpkins record with the closest record, which was a The Cranberries record.

As the record started up, the soft sound of Linger moved through-out the kitchen, Harry quietly humming along as he swayed through the kitchen. He gathered what he needed to start making breakfast for the two of them. He brought out the items he needed to make the two of them pancakes, and he quickly whipped up the batter. As the skillet heated up to the correct temperature, he had started on heating the kettle. Draco absolutely hated coffee of any sorts, whether it be iced coffee, an americano, straight black coffee, draco preferred sticking with his tea.

Harry grabbed Draco’s favorite mug, and placed a vanilla tea bag in it. Harry hovered his hand above the skillet, feeling the warmth radiating off of it; THe skillet was clearly ready. He sprayed the skillet with a light layer of butter spray, and laddled the first bit of batter onto it. As he waited for that pancake to finish so he could flip it, he poured the boiling kettle water into Draco’s mug. The steam it accumulated had reached Harry's glasses, slightly fogging the lenses up. He huffed quietly, placing the kettle back on its heater as he took his glasses off, quickly wiping off the dew left from the steam that hit his glasses. He slid them back on and noticed his pancake bubbling now. He hurriedly grabbed a spatula and flipped the pancake successfully on its uncooked side. He let out a small sound of victory at how perfect the pancake looked.

“What are you making?”

Draco’s unexpected voice made Harry jump slightly, letting out a quiet yelp in the process. “Dray! I didn't know you were awake” Harry said, a soft and loving smile immediately splayed across his lips as he made eye contact with his husband. “Oh- Right, I’m making pancakes” Harry Said with a slight flush on his cheeks. He rarely cooked breakfast for the two of them, it was usually Draco. Yet, Harry had woken up first today so he decided he might as well. Based on the slightly burning smell going on behind him, it wasn't going well.

“Oh Harry, go sit down, love” Draco said with a soft sigh, a smile on his face as he watched his husband's face flush more at the fact he had burned breakfast already. Draco ushered Harry to sit at the small table they had within the kitchen, already at work with cooking up a new pancake.

“I wanted to bring you breakfast in bed” Harry mumbled quietly, the embarrassment still evident on his face. The two of them had been married for 10 years, in a relationship for even longer; Harry never understood how he could always feel so embarrassed in front of Draco when he did the smallest thing. “Harry, I love you dearly but you can not cook”. Draco exclaimed with a soft laugh, sliding a few pancakes onto a plate he had grabbed out of the cupboard.

“Hey! I've cooked for you before!” Harry huffed out defensively, arms crossed as he watched Draco move throughout the kitchen so skillfully. “Heating up a frozen pizza doesn't count, darling, '' Draco stated, placing the plate of perfectly made pancakes in front of Harry at the table. “I don't understand how you do it! These look amazing, you make cooking look so easy” Harry pouted, staring at the amazingly golden brown pancakes in front of him. Draco smiled, leaning down and pressing a gentle peck to Harry's pout. “Love I've tried to teach you many times, your only excuse is that I'm so pretty you get distracted,” said Draco, watching as his husband's cheeks turned a fiery red once again.

“You are evil, Draco Malfoy-Potter” Harry said as he cut a piece of the pancake, shoving it into his mouth. He was pretending to sulk, enjoying the attention he regularly got from Draco. As Harry ate, he smiled lovingly at Draco as a cup of coffee was placed in front of him, his husband finally joining him at the table. They ate in silence, the only sound was the quiet music drifting through the house, completing the comforting and safe vibe both men enjoyed.

Once the two of them were done with their breakfast, they had gotten up from the table and over to the sink. Together, they had washed and dried the dirty dishes that were collecting up. It was such a simple and small chore, but they did everything together. They basked in each other's presence, the small and innocent touches, grazing their hands against each other as they reached for a new dish or a fresh towel to dry a plate with. The soft laughs and whispers filled the house, they were in their own little world.

“Dance with me” Harry had blurted out randomly as they laid on the couch together, bodys pressed against another, their limbs tangled, so close as if they pressed hard enough they could become one. “What?” Draco laughed out softly, brushing stray hair out of Harry's face with care. “Dance with me, dray. Cmon” Harry said with his stupid smile spread on his face. Draco could never say no to that.

Draco let Harry pull him up off the couch, and they two fell into a comfortable sway, a jazz record playing slowly. They held each other close, pressing lingering kisses all over each other's faces, each placement as meaningful as the last. Every gentle brush of a stray hair, every spin almost calculated, their silence slowly turned to hushed laughs and giggles.

Draco yelped as Harry dipped him, his dorky smile had not left his face ever since Draco agreed to dancing. Their lips connected, pulling them into a soft, slow, loving kiss. Draco’s mind was only filled with harry. How Harry was so infatuated with him, how Harry never truly judged him for who he was; even when knowing who his parents were. How quick Harry was to accept him into his life.

“I love you, Harry James Potter-Malfoy, even if you're an absolute sap sometimes' ' Draco said quietly once the kiss was over, looking deep into his husband's eyes.

“I love you too, Draco Lucius Malfoy-Potter, even if you're a posh idiot sometimes' ' Harry replied back, lost in love, and lost in his husband's captivating eyes.
