Work Text:
“You really think they’ll be surprised?” Jeongguk asks as he puts down the last plate on the table.
“Of course they’ll be surprised. None of them thought either of us would get the courage to confess,” Yoongi grabs onto the back of the chair, smiling at Jeongguk.
They were having a dinner party, one to announce to all their friends that they were officially a couple.
“I can’t wait to see Jimin’s face when I tell him you thought I was in love with him,” Yoongi smirks.
“Hyung you can’t. I’m so embarrassed,” Jeongguk covers his face with his hands.
“It’s cute,” Yoongi walks around the table and grabs Jeongguk’s wrists, pulling his hands down from his face. He kisses his palms before taking his hands in his own. He was so happy to be able to do this, after so long of wanting to.
They’d officially been together a week, and kept it a secret from all of their friends. They’d wanted it to be a surprise. And what better surprise than at a dinner party. Though, Namjoon had been suspicious.
“ Why are you having a dinner party? Since when do you and Jeongguk host parties? What’s going on that you’re not telling me? ”
Once the place settings are complete, they both admire their work. It came together quite well. They told their friends to dress nicely. Yoongi himself was in a suit jacket, white shirt and black slacks. Jeongguk had on a soft fuzzy sweater over jeans.
“Have I told you how adorable you look?” Yoongi pulls Jeongguk closer, putting his arm around his waist.
“Only about 10 times, but tell me again,” Jeongguk giggles.
Yoongi leans in for a kiss, but they’re interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Are you ready?” Yoongi asks. Jeongguk just nods, unable to keep the smile off his face. “Remember, we can’t act like a couple, not until we tell them.”
“One last kiss then,” Jeongguk leans down bringing their lips together. He pulls back then does it again, and again, and again.
“Okay, that’s enough, bun.” Jeongguk scrunches his nose at the new nickname.
Yoongi leaves one last kiss on his lips, before he walks quickly towards the door as they knock again.
“I’m coming,” he announces, though he isn’t sure they can hear him.
He opens the door and there stands Namjoon, Taehyung and Jimin. Yoongi can’t help but notice Taehyung and Jimin are holding hands. He arches an eyebrow at Jimin and he can see pink painting his cheeks as he looks down, trying to hide his smile.
“Welcome in,” Yoongi opens the door wide, gesturing at them to enter.
Taehyung and Jimin only drop their hands to take off their shoes. Namjoon removes his as well, before walking into the living room and looking around.
“Something is different.”
“Nothing is different.” Yoongi rolls his eyes.
“No, I can feel it. Something is different.”
“Stop being so suspicious and sit down.”
“Hello?” Hoseok peeks his head inside the door as Yoongi was about to close it.
“Come on in,” Yoongi opens the door again, this time closing it behind Hoseok.
Hoseok removes his shoes and enters the living room, where the four of them stand unsure of what to do.
“Seokjin will be here soon, he’s coming straight from the airport.” Yoongi announces to everyone. “Anyone want a drink?”
“Why do we need a drink? What do you have up your sleeve, Yoongi?” Namjoon narrows his eyes at him.
“Oh my God will you stop?” Yoongi can’t help but laugh. “I’m just trying to be a good host.”
“Yah, since when do you try to be a good host?” Namjoon accuses.
“No drinks for you, then. Anyone else? I’ve got wine?”
Everyone agrees to wine, except for Taehyung. And Namjoon, still looking around the room suspiciously.
Jeongguk has kept quiet standing in the dining room that sits just off the living room.
“Jeongguk? Are you not going to say hi?” Yoongi hears Jimin laugh as he walks into the kitchen.
This was nice, having all their friends over at once. It’s the first time it’s happened. He just hoped everyone gets along well.
He returns with the wine, and begins pouring it into the glasses sitting around the table. They hold up their drinks, and just as they’re about the cheers there’s another knock at the door.
“I’ll get it,” Jeongguk sits his glass down and rushes over the door.
“Jeongguk!” he hears Seokjin say loudly as soon as the door opens. “I warned you this would happen, and if it has to happen here in front of everyone, then so be it.”
Seokjin marches into the living room, staring at everyone in the dining room. He stops dead in his tracks seeing everyone there staring at him. Yoongi can see his ears going red. But Seokjin clears his throat…
“Yoongi!” He begins, but is cut off.
“Hyung, you don’t have to do this,” Jeongguk grabs at his arm.
“Did you tell him?” He looks at Jeongguk, who says nothing. “I thought so. Yoongi! Jeongguk is in love with you!”
Yoongi can feel everyone’s eyes on him, can feel their stares.
“Surprise?” Yoongi says, unable to move.
“Surprise what? See! I knew you got us here for a reason!” Namjoon points his finger at Yoongi.
“Yoongi? What do you have to say about this?” Seokjin looks at him with his hands on his hips. Jeongguk has his head in his hand.
“You ruined the surprise, hyung.” Jeongguk says into his palm.
“Surprise? What surprise?” Seokjin looks from Jeongguk back to Yoongi.
“Surprise, we’re together?” Yoongi shrugs, unsure of what else to say.
“As in like…together, together?” Jimin asks, a huge smile on his face.
“Yes, as in together, together.” Yoongi holds his hand out towards Jeongguk. Jeongguk walks towards him, standing by his side as Yoongi puts his arm around his waist.
“It’s about fucking time,” Taehyung cheers.
“How did this even happen?” Seokjin asks.
“Well, it started because I presented Jeongguk with divorce papers.”
“You WHAT?” Seokjin yells.
“Well, he looked miserable and I just…” he looks towards Jeongguk. “I couldn’t stand to see him look so miserable and I thought it was because of me. So I thought I was doing what was best for Jeongguk.”
“So you’re divorced?” Taehyung asks, his face falling.
“No, after I confessed he tore up the papers,” he can hear the smile in Jeongguk’s voice.
“ That’s what it took you to confess? Him threatening to divorce you? Not your best friends repeatedly telling you to talk to Yoongi?”
“What difference does it make? We talked, didn't we?”
“One day you will learn to listen to me, but I’m glad you two finally talked it out. You two have to be the most oblivious people on the planet, you know that?” Seokjin sounds exhausted.
“Do you want some wine, hyung?” Yoongi offers his untouched glass.
“I need it, after all the shit you two put me through,” Seokjin says with a laugh.
“You want to hear something really funny?” Yoongi arches his eyebrow.
“Hyung no! You can’t!” Jeongguk covers his face again.
“Jeongguk, all this time, thought I was in love with Jimin,” he chuckles.
“What?” Taehyung almost drops his glass while Jimin laughs hysterically at his side.
“Guk, did you really?” Jimin asks, Taehyung grabbing his arm to keep him from falling over from laughter. “All that time he was trying to get me to confess to Taehyung!”
“I didn’t know! How was I supposed to know he wasn’t?” Jeongguk removes his hand, balling it into a little fist and stomping his foot.
“Bun,” Yoongi keeps laughing. “It’s cute you thought that, don’t be embarrassed.” Yoongi leans over, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
The rest of the night goes well if you were to ask Yoongi. Everyone seemed to get along, everyone enjoyed the food, then they all sat around the coffee table in the living room just talking.
It was like they were their own little family, the seven of them. And it felt even more complete with Jeongguk by his side.
