Chapter Text
One thing that Sasha observed about Barbie is that she LOVES the mall.
Barbie likes how all the stores are all in one neat place, (Sasha'd learnt from Barbie that being a human meant getting tired was much faster in the Real World than in Barbieland. Actually, did Barbie EVER get tired in Barbieland?)
Sasha definitely knows she likes the water fountain because one time, her and her mom were looking for Barbie for ages around the mall, only to find out she was just??? staring into the water??
But mostly Barbie liked spending time with Gloria in the mall. Yeah, thats right- Sasha's own mom. Sasha could totally tell they had something going on, what with them constantly sneaking glances with each other, and unintentionally flirting. But, that was honestly the least of her worries right now.
-
"Uh, Barbie? You good?" Sasha stares at the self pitying, newly turned human, face flat on the couch.
"Hey Sasha.." Barbie greets in a muffled, more sad tone than usual. Quite a difference from her peppy manner of speech, which Sasha just started getting used to.
"What happened?"
"Your mom won't go to the mall with me because she has some important meeting at Mattel..."
"Really." Sasha's raises her eyebrows and is annoyed as all hell. Barbie, destroyer of patriarchy (at least in Barbieland), is having a breakdown about this?
"Uggghh.." Barbie doesn't even bother to answer with a full sentence.
Honestly, Sasha feels bad for Barbie, no matter how stupidly happy she is and how it annoys her to her very core sometimes, she has to admit- she does like having Barbie around, at least more than her basically non-existent in her life father at this point.
"You know, *we* could go to the mall if you're cool with it." Sasha says as an off comment, shrugging and looking away, trying to act nonchalant.
Barbie smiles as she springs up from her depression, looking eagerly at Sasha.
"Wait, really?"
"Well yeah, if you wan-" Sasha says before getting pulled into a hug by Barbie, which so tight that Sasha can barely breathe- and oh my god where did she learn this???
--
Their outfit choices are wildly different. Sasha is wearing a black band tee (courtesy of her mom) and a black and white striped long-sleeve underneath, with black jeans.
Barbie is wearing her hot pink cowboy outfit, complete with star earrings. (Barbie brought all the clothes she had at Barbieland to the human world, which was surprisingly easy to transport)
Barbie hasn't really grasped the concept of casual wear, but hey, Sasha's not gonna rain on her parade today.
"So, where do you wanna go first?" Sasha asks Barbie, who is practically skipping now that they're actually in the said mall.
"Ooh, I actually saw this store when me and your mom went here last time, but I didn't get a chance to go there. Wanna see?" Barbie perks up, looking at Sasha.
Sasha is more or less expecting some boring clothing store that her mom would go to, so she puts on a fake smile and says "Sure!" in a overly cheery tone.
--
"Here we are!" Barbie does those stupid jazz hands, which cannot be more inappropriate at a time like this.
Sasha looks at the store in disbelief, it being one shes used to. The store's sign
reads "Spencers" in graffiti lettering, and is the least likely place she'd expect Barbie to be.
Okay, first off, why would Barbie of all people want to go here? Does she even know what the inside entails? But, putting that aside, Barbie looks genuinely excited to go inside. Actually, she would look excited for anything.
"Barbie, I dont thin-" Sasha is quickly cut off by Barbie, whos wide eyed and smiling, already stepping foot in the brick exteriored store.
Sasha quickly follows Barbie into the store and is greeted with band t shirts, character backpacks, pride flags, t-shirts with REALLY offensive material, some rap song swearing a ton, and a .. penis lollipop. Okay, now she really needs to find Barbie.
She runs through the Playboy jewelery, the lewd t shirts that have anime girls with big boobs, until she makes her way to the counter where she sees.. Barbie talking to one of the workers?
"Wow, I love what your wearing! I like all the.. metaly things all over your body, its so pretty! I've never seen makeup like yours before.." Barbie says, as she admires the heavily pierced, emo Spencers worker.
The worker, who seems to be marking things on clearance, is awkwardly standing there while Barbie stares in awe. "Thanks?"
God, Sasha feels bad for that worker.
"I am so sorry about that!" Sasha nervously says to the worker while taking Barbie's hand and leading her to a different section of the store.
"Okay! Uh, ground rules." Sasha claps her hands together staring directly at Barbie. "Don't go up to random people, actually don't talk to anyone. At all. And don't go in the- Barbie?"
She had somehow disappeared within the four seconds it took Sasha to remember about what lies beyond the curtains. Curse Barbie's low attention span.
"Shit."
