The Mystics

Summary:

Amaris and Buck travel to the lustrous city of Nebulas City to see the world and make a life they'd never see in their small village, but they might just get more than they bargained for.

Chapter Text

There was once a world known as Lunalis, a world of humans and a magical people known as Mystics.

Today, on a flying train were two Mystics leaving their countryside mountain village to see the world, make a life in the biggest city in Lunalis; Nebulas City.

Sitting across from each other was a moon bat mystic named Amaris Bliss and a jackalope Mystic named Buck Silverfoot.

Amaris grinned as she looked outside at the sparkling, rainbow trail that led to their destination “This is it Bucky, Nebulas City! Can you believe it? I bet we'll see things we never saw in the village!”

Buck whistles at sight- “It all looks so tall and colorful!” He grins at his best friend, his small tail wagging at the excitement.

The moon bat Mystic grinned as the city came into view, it was massive and magic practically bled into everything, streams of water in multiple colors flowed between many buildings, specs of humans and Mystics alike on magic brooms soared, and Amaris could just make out bioluminescent plantlife decorating the city.

It was like nothing either had seen in their quaint little village they grew up in.

Once the train came to its stop, Amaris and Buck were quick to grab their bags, beginning to exit the train.

“Now Amaris, this is all really exciting but we gotta find a place to stay first, the last thing we need is getting lost in the city.” Buck tells the moon bat.

Amaris rolled her eyes at her friend's concern “I know, Bucky! But it's hard NOT to get excited! Nothing's ever this exhilarating back in the village!”

Stepping out of the train, the duo began walking through the city, Amaris had to duck to avoid a harpy Mystic as they flew past in a hurry, there were street performers showing off a magical light show.

It's everything Amaris ever dreamed of and more.

But Buck was right, first they needed to get settled in, they walked towards the nearest hotel, thankful for the money Amaris’ mother gave her before they departed.

Buck leads the way to the hotel, entering the big, towering building as he walks to the reception desk; “Hi, we would like a room for two?”

The human woman behind the counter looked at the computer “Room for two? That'll be ten sols each.”

Amaris looked surprised at that “You…wouldn't happen to accept mooms, would you?”

The woman gave a sympathetic look with a sigh “New to the city I'm guessing? Afraid this part of the continent only accepts sols.”

“What about converting them? Is there a place we can go to do that?” Buck asks, not wanting Amaris to feel further discouraged.

The woman tilted her head “well, how much do you have?”

“50 mooms…” Amaris said a bit sheepishly, the woman giving a pained expression “...That's equal to 2 sols here…”

Buck frowns, anxiety setting in at the fact they do not have enough money to be able to afford a place to stay.

Amaris sighed, head down but braving a smile for Buck's sake “i-its fine, we'll figure something out, c'mon Bucky.”

They walked back outside, Amaris noticing the sky growing dark “looks like it's gonna rain…”

Not an ideal outcome for their first day in Nebulas City.

“What are we going to do Ama? We need somewhere to stay and we have no money.” Buck says, worried.

Amaris gave a playful punch to Buck's shoulder “Hey, don't lose hope yet! It's a big city, we'll find somewhere to stay at least for the night, besides, not like it can get much worse!”

As if on cue, there was a loud thunderclap as it began pouring rain, some rain in multiple colors due to the colorful floating riverstream intertwining the city.

Buck stared seemingly at nothing for a few seconds before looking to Amaris- “You had to say it?”

Amaris’ smile faded as she groaned and sat on the obsidian sidewalk “Oh who am I kidding? It hasn't even been an hour and this is already a disaster!”

Buck goes to sit with her, despite his anxieties- “It’ll be ok Ama…we’ll find something.” he attempts to reassure her.

The moon bat raised one wing to shield Buck from the rain with a sigh “It's just…this isn't how I imagined our first day in the big city to be, everything here is so big and beautiful! But…we can't even find a place to stay outta the rain…”

“It’ll be ok, we’ll find somewhere to stay, I know it.” Buck says, reassuring her but also trying to reassure himself.

Suddenly, Amaris felt the rain stop, looking up she noticed an umbrella held above her by a plump pink and red dragon Mystic who gave the duo a kind smile.

“Hello there, I…couldn't help but overhear you two didn't have a place to stay?” She had a sweet voice, noticeably with a Hispanic accent and looked at the two with concern.

Amaris cleared her throat “Oh um, yes…we didn't know how little mooms translated into sols here…”

The dragon mystic looked thoughtful before offering her clawed hand “I have some empty space in my bakery, it might not be much but-”

“We’ll take it!” Buck quickly says, desperate.,

Amaris grinned “We can't thank you enough, miss…?”

“Rosá, my name’s Rosá, and it's no trouble, follow me, my bakery isn't far from here!” The kind dragon mystic replied cheerfully, leading the way.

“Thank you, Rosá, my name's Amaris, and this is Buck, we're new around here, you see…” the taller Mystic explained.

Rosá smiled “Where are you two from? Must be far to not have bought a place in advance.”

Amaris chuckled sheepishly, “Oh, just a little village from the mountains, ya probably haven't heard of it…Orion Peaks.”

“We were hoping to see more of the world moving to Nebula City but…didn’t realize how little mooms converted to sols.” Buck added with sheepish laughter.

“That'll do it I suppose, well don't worry, you two can stay as long as you need!” Rosá opened the door to her bakery, the sign reading Sugar Scales Bakery, the trio walking inside with Amaris and Buck still soaking wet from the rain.

Rosá used her pink and purple flame breath to help dry the two off as Amaris smiled “We'll try not to intrude too much, Rosá,we really appreciate all your doing already.”

The dragon mystic only smiled kindly “Oh, don't mention it! And, if you would like, I can give you two a job in the bakery so you can make some money of your own! No charge! Well obviously I'll pay you, but you know what I mean.”

“Oh, we would appreciate it! We will do our best around the bakery!” Buck grins, wagging his tail.

With a small giggle, Rosá smiled “Well, for now you two should head upstairs, I have a few spare bedrooms, so take your pick, I can go out looking for proper bedding tomorrow.”

As Amaris and Buck began their way upstairs, Amaris smiled at her “Thank you again Rosá, this means a lot, really.”

As they left earshot, Rosá turned to look outside worriedly, just as the moon began to rise…she was glad she ran into those two before dark…

Nighttime was growing dangerous for Mystics.
