“So, when did you become a magical girl? I could’ve sworn that you weren’t one when we first met.”
"Late at night” Jaz lied.
Jaz didn’t want to lie to Sadie, but she feels like it was necessary. Sadie thought for a moment. Then she sighed.
"What do you know about being a magical girl?” Sadie asks.
"Not much”
"Really?”
”Kyubey only came to me recently. I didn’t have the chance to meet other magical girls.”
"Good” Sadie said.
Jaz looks at Sadie, confused. Why is it good that she didn’t have the chance to meet other magical girls? Surely, it’ll help that magical girls work together.
"Listen, being a magical girl isn’t all what it seems. There’s competition, magical girls fight and kill each other for the loot witches drop and for territory.”
"Why would we have to do that?”
"Well, when we kill witches sometimes, they drop something called a grief seed. They’re very valuable for a magical girl. When you put the Grief Seed next to your Soul Gem, it clears it up.”
Jaz tilts her head in confusion. Sadie rolls her eyes.
"I’ll show you later. Anyways, since the reward rate is so low, most magical girls don’t tend to work together. Now, when it comes to territories, there’s one ‘ultimate’ magical girl. Of course, there’s more than one magical girl in an area” Sadie starts again.
"Obviously” Jaz said.
"Anyways the strongest magical girl gets the territory. But in some cases, a newly contacted magical girl gets the territory. Like the one in some town in Japan a year ago”
"I see”
Sadie was about to say something before she closed her mouth. She walks to Jaz’s closed room door and opens it. Standing there was Carter.
"What are you doing standing there?” Sadie asks.
"I was wondering what was taking you two so long.”
"We were having girl talk.”
"O-kay. Breakfast is being served. I don’t know if- "
"We’re coming”

Jaz and Sadie walked around the heavy street of Manhattan. Sadie had her soul gem out and was telling Jaz on how finding where Witches are worked. When they got a lead, they went to the direction the soul gem wanted them to go. When they arrived at the location, there were several blasts coming from the labyrinth.
“It seems like a magical girl has already claimed this. We should look for another one” Sadie said.
"Shouldn’t we help?” Jaz asked.
Sadie shook her head.
“It’s best if we don’t. If it’s really dire, then maybe.”
Jaz was infuriated.
"So, you’re saying we should not help a fellow magical girl in need?”
"Do you think it doesn’t hurt when I don't help. I want to help, I really do. But it's an unspoken rule amongst all magical girls. You just became a magical girl recently, so I'm not surprised that you're acting like this. There are magical girls out there who don't like it if you help them. You don't understand the number of times where I see magical girls kill each other just because they couldn't get along, they didn't like each other, or because of territory"
Jaz, at this moment, thought that Sadie was exaggerating. Maybe because Sadie was still new to America and hasn't gotten used to the magical girls here. She was about to argue when she saw some movement to the right of her. She looked, Sadie followed suite. Standing there was Amos. Sadie froze.
"Amos. What are you doing here?" Sadie asks.
"I could ask the both of you the same thing. But considering on what I've overheard, I already know why you two are here so late at night" Amos said.
"How exactly did you know we were here?"
"I followed. You weren't that sneaky."
"We weren't trying to be. Almost everyone was in their rooms by the time we left" Sadie muttered.
Amos sighed. He's not going to act like he knows what's going on in Sadie's life before he brought her and Carter to Brooklyn. All he knows is that he's worried about her.
"Just... please be careful. I don't want anything happening to you"
"I'll... I'll try" Sadie said.
