Hellsing Custom Ponies

Summary:

Exactly what it says on the tin: real physical My Little Pony toys I've customized as Hellsing characters.

These were all previously posted on my MLP Instagram @anotherhorsedreamer.

I'll be posting pics of each pony in separate chapters, titled by character. My plans are to make most of the major cast eventually, so please subscribe if you want to be notified when your favorite character gets ponyfied!

Chapter 1: Alucard (G1)

Who better to start with than the No Life King himself? Alucard was customized from a G1 Pony Bride. His hat and glasses lenses are handmade.

Chapter 2: Alexander Anderson (HQG1C)

And of course you can't have Alucard without his beloved nemesis! Anderson was made from an HQG1C G1-style boy. His necklace and Helena's Nail are handmade, and his glasses and vines are hand-painted.

Chapter 3: Enrico Maxwell + Azaraku Makube (G3)

Here are the other two male members of Iscariot, both made from damaged G3 ponies. I embroidered Maxwell's scarf free-hand, so I hope the vain little S.O.B. appreciates it!

Chapter 4: Valentine Brothers (G3)

The Valentine Brothers are my favorite Hellsing characters, so I've made multiple customs of them, lots of Luke in particular.  But these are the two that started it all.  I came across a pony for sale that had been painted black to be customized, and I immediately thought of Jan.  I hadn't customized a pony in 10-15 years, so I learned a lot of techniques while making Jan.  I had the same seller paint another pony white to be Luke, and from there I just kept going!

They've become my Instagram's mascots, and I have a lot of fun photographing scenes with them, like this recreation of an omake comic from the Hellsing manga (click for a clearer version)...

...and some original scenarios.

Chapter 5: Rip Van Winkle (G3)

Rip is tied with Makube for my favorite character after the Valentine Brothers, so I really enjoyed ponifying her! I left the bait pony's symbol as is, because I thought the yellow umbrella was perfect for Rip!  Her body and eye color are original to the pony as well.

The musket is a miniature that I painted to look as much like Rip's as I could manage.  The alarm clock is from a G1 My Little Pony playset - not quite the same style as Rip's clock, but as close as I could find.  I didn't have the heart to customize it and ruin the decal it's had since the 80s!

I love the Crossfire manga, and I like the prototype version of Enrico better than the Hellsing version... so I couldn't resist making a pony of him as well!

Chapter 8: Valentine Brothers (G2)

Notes:

My goal is to make customs of the Valentine Brothers in the style of every generation of MLP - G1, G2, G3, G3.5, G4, G4.5, and G5. (Yeah, I really like them lol.) These are the first G2s I've ever customized, and probably they'll be the last. They're hard to work with, and I broke several needles rerooting Jan's hair... but then, if he wasn't difficult, he wouldn't be Jan, now would he?

Chapter 9: Tubalcain Alhambra (G3)

Summary:

Quite possibly the silliest looking pony I've ever made, but what are you gonna do. I used a very beat up bait pony and gave him a full-body card design to cover stains, and hat and shoes to cover damaged ears and feet.

Chapter 10: Heinkel Wolfe (G3)

Summary:

Heinkel was made from a stained white pony I repainted. I hand-made her coat, and her glasses are Barbie sunglasses. She has the same symbol and pendant as my other Iscariot ponies.

Chapter 11: Valentine Brothers (model unicorns)

Summary:

When I decided to make Luke in every style of pony I could, I didn't think things would go this far 😂 But I got a model horse in terrible shape and decided to turn it into a Lukeicorn. He seemed lonely, so I got another horse at the thrift store and made a Janicorn too!

Chapter 12: Valentine Brothers (G4 Figures)

Summary:

G4-style Lukes and Jans made from smaller figures.

The first set is made from a Princess Celestia figure for Luke and a Nightmare Moon on a slightly smaller scale for Jan.  I got the Celestia just because I thought it would be fun to paint the mane as Luke's hair 😂  Nightmare Moon's mane became a removable blue flame for when I want to set Jan on fire 🤪

The other set is made from two McDonald's Happy Meal toys - Twilight Sparkle for Jan and Rarity for Luke.

Chapter 13: OVA Luke Valentine (G3)

(Apologies for the giant images, but imgur keeps changing things and I can't figure out how to link to thumbnails anymore!)

This beautiful Luke is a collaboration with Epony Art (@eponyart) and me to create an OVA-based version!  She designed and painted his symbols, as well as painted his eyes in the OVA style based on screenshots I sent her.  I chose and prepped the base pony, and rerooted his hair.  Instead of the light blond I normally use for my Lukes, it's a match for his hair color in the OVA.

Chapter 14: Familiar Luke Valentine (G3)

When I found a half-a-pony for sale on eBay, I immediately thought of making a custom of Luke when he's "resurrected" out of Baskerville.  This particular pony had a large plastic flower in her head, so I yanked that out and incorporated the hole into the design by basing him on the brief shot of Luke disintegrating after Alucard's illusion is dispelled.  I find this shot to be breathtaking*, and I'm really pleased with how the pony embodies it!

*The only reason I can view it without bawling my eyes out is because I firmly believe the manga omake is canon, which means Luke is perfectly fine afterwards 😂 That said, I cannot watch the fight part of the scene because I can't stand seeing Luke tortured. I love him too much 😭

Chapter 15: Seapony Luke Valentine (HQG1C)

I wanted to make a seapony version of Luke, but vintage seaponies are kind of expensive, so I used a new HQG1C one instead.  I also bought a repro white shell stand to decorate for him.  I decided to base him on Luke's TV anime appearance since I normally do the OVA version, so his eyes are dark gray.

Chapter 17: Luke Valentine (G3s)

Notes:

I challenged myself to make this set of three Lukes from three different G3 ponies, all of whom were naturally white with blond hair. Two even had green eyes! None of them needed a huge amount of customizing, and all still have their original hair.

This is a Valentine's Day themed Luke made from a pony called Golden Delicious, whose symbol was an apple in a heart. I left the heart, and the fetching pink streak in his hair 😂

This one is made from a pony named Breezie; I changed the symbol.

This last one was made from a pony with the glamorous name of Flutternutter, and the only one who didn't have green eyes. Therefore, he's based on Hirano's artwork for the OVA DVD cover, where Luke has light-colored eyes.  To go with the theme, I also gave his symbol the tear drop it sometimes has in the manga.
