Chapter Text
It's that girl again.
The same girl with a desaturated sage hair color was found inside of the library. Surrounded by the bookshelves as she kept herself busy by putting back the books of their right places by category.
Schneider would give the occasional side glances as she watched the other from afar. The library was pure silence, hearing only the squeaky tire of the cart as the younger girl pushed.
But what was the Italian girl doing at a library of all places? Two weeks ago, she planned on skipping her morning lectures (because she'll end up sleeping in class anyway) and decided that she should lounge at the air-conditioned library instead. One step forward into the room and she was absolutely smitten by what her eyes saw. Straight silky hair tied neatly to a bun as strands lightly covered those green eyes before it was revealed when she tucked her hair to her ear.
Merda.
She was practically thanking the Gods above for letting her perceive such a beauty. Schneider quickly tried to play it off and look away when the lighter-haired girl turned her head around as she didn't want her to notice that she was staring at her— That'd be weird. The brunette let out a sigh of relief when the other girl was out of her sight and went on to continue her initial plan of lounging around the library to kill time and most likely dozing off at one of the tables.
Schneider later found out the girl was younger than her by two years. Given that she herself was in her second year of Criminology already it was only right to assume that the green-eyed girl was in her senior year. She only saw her three days a week at the library and so she speculated that she follows a schedule for when she works there and—
Schneider felt like a total stalker. She has to stop this infatuation of hers over the girl. She had to figure out an excuse where she could just get to talk to her that doesn't make her look like a weirdo. She stood up from her seat, with a confident face as if she was ready to march against enemy frontlines. Before she knew it, she was already facing her. The other girl looked down at her with a confused expression, raising her brow.
“Can I help you?”
Shit. Dio mio. Non ci avevo pensato bene—
“Does a pretty girl like you have a name?”
FUCK.
Schneider panicked and let her mouth slip up. Even in such a flustered and freaked out state she was still able to put up a front to the other. She's fallen deep in the hellhole. She might as well make the most of it. The lighter-haired girl was taken aback and only bluntly replied, “Vertin,”
The brunette's plan on getting over her fixation on the girl only deepened when she heard that sweet English accent. The Italian gave her a smile. “Ah, what a fitting name~ It's only fair if I share mine as well, yes?” Schneider cooed as she tilted her head at the other. Vertin's blank expression broke when she let out a quick and small snort, but that didn't stop her from rearranging the books.
“Only if you want to. But sounds to me you plan on being friends”
Just friends?
Schneider felt giddy at the response. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to keep this little interest of hers going? Just for a little while.
“I figured that I should come on over and get to know you more.” she stated as she crossed her arms and leaned against the bookshelf's wooden frame. “That's a surprise. You don't...” Vertin broke her focus on the books to take a good look at the Italian girl, eyeing her from her face, down to her heels, and back to her face again. “—Seem to be the type to make friends at a library of all places. But, either way I am flattered.”
Oh my god is she that oblivious? I guess that's charming in a way. Schneider giggled at the response as she had to hold herself back from absolutely losing it at how adorable the girl was being.
“I'll take that as a compliment, grazie.” The Italian girl unconsciously licked her lips when she realized the girl in front of her was definitely much more beautiful up close. She could easily count the freckles sprinkled on top of her nose if she could.
“Ah, you're Italian? That's nice. I didn't want to assume from the accent you had.”
Schneider furrowed her brows at the statement, “And I never would've realized you were British either.”
Vertin lightly shook her head along with a scoff and a small smile plastered on her face. “I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you.” Schneider gently pushed the other girl's shoulder. She was well aware they weren't close enough for her to hit her more than that — they aren't close at all even! This is their first time officially meeting of course but oddly enough Schneider felt as if she's met this person before. “Oh, I am greatly offended actually.” An idea struck in the Italian's head.
“So offended that you have to make it up to me later?” Schneider was sly and a massive flirt. It's always been one of her traits and she's proud to be known as a smooth talker. She knew that herself and she wouldn't mind if Vertin declined the offer after all she was there in front of her to supposedly break the infatuation she has on the girl but she would be disappoin—
“Where? I get off my shift in about fifteen minutes or so,”
Schneider couldn't believe what she was hearing. Serene music in her ears rang like an echo. At some point she could've sworn she started hearing wedding bells already. Is this actually happening?
“I'll wait for you at the gate,” Schneider replied gleefully with a huge grin that she horribly tried to hide but alas, she was way too excited at the possibility that they'll be together outside the library as she turned her back around to face the exit, her hands clasped together behind her back.
“Wait.”
As soon as she was already a few more steps to the other side of the room she turned to face that beautiful face once more, “Yes, Vertin?”
Vertin's body language seemed to be subtly nervous. Her lips quivering along with those intricate fingertips of hers— eyes looking at Schneider, desperate for the answer already to the question she has yet to ask, “You haven't told me your name yet. How can I trust that you'll still be there?”
“That's because I don't plan on being friends with you. It's up to you to decide if you want to take the risk or not,”
Schneider looked back at Vertin one last time. Seeing that freckled face flushed in red with that adorable and blank expression. The lighter-haired girl looked like she was still processing whatever just happened to her and that was the last thing the brunette saw after leaving the building.
She knew she was gonna have fun with her new crush.
