Work Text:
Peter walked back into the common room carrying a stack of photos he had taken the night before. James had given him a muggle film camera for his birthday, while Remus and Sirius had worked together to find out what spells could be used to develop the photos. He had quickly become obsessed with capturing moments between his friends and housemates.
Last night was no different at the party. Peter smiles remembering the silly faces Marlene had made into the camera. He looks up noticing Remus sprawled across the sofa asleep with Sirius on top of him. With a small smile to himself, he walks over, snapping a quick photo of them. It had taken them forever to get to this point and there needed to be photographic evidence. Turning away, Peter walks up the stairs to the dormitory thumbing through his stack of photos.
“Oh,” he says quietly to himself as he sits on his bed.
The photo he's looking at is of Marlene, Mary, Lily, and Alice smiling together, arms linked. However, in the background there's a familiar mop of wild brown hair, even if slightly tamer than usual, wearing a red quidditch jumper with ‘POTTER’ across the shoulders. James has his arms around someone- but who? The other person is wearing silver rings but nothing super identifying. Peter hums to himself casting a spell to duplicate the image so the girls can have a copy. He then casts two more spells. One, setting the photo into motion. The other, zooming in on the background.
“Prongsie, you dirty dog,” Peter snorts to himself at that. “Deer, you dirty deer.”
He stares down as photo James dips his head presumably into the other person's neck revealing their face. Regulus Black, with his hand resting against James' shoulder, smiling. Now Peter should probably hide the photo. After all he cannot presume Sirius would be too happy to see his baby brother wrapped in James’ arms. Peter quickly goes through the rest of the photos making small piles to deliver later. He sets James' stack on his empty bed, the one including Regulus hidden in the middle. He turns, dropping the stack for Sirius and Remus onto their beds and heads down to breakfast. The rest of the photos tucked safely into an envelope inside his jacket pocket.
Sirius wakes up with his face tucked into what he presumes is someone's neck based on the feeling of a body beneath him. He opens his eyes then smiles seeing the light dusting of freckles there. He inhales deeply before leaning up and staring down at a still sleeping Remus. “Moony,” he whispers, gently rousing him.
Sirius’ smile deepens as Remus' left eye cracks open warily. He lets out a sigh of relief, noticing Sirius on top of him.
“Mmm hey,” he says, voice thick with sleep. He reaches up, tucking a strand of hair behind Sirius’ ear.
Sirius bites his lip to hide a smile then speaks, “Was last night real? Or did I dream it up? Because if it was real then that means we actually kissed and stuff and I would be really happy about that but also I might have just dreamed it up which wouldn't shock me considering i've dreamed about it before…mmph.”
Remus had stopped Sirius’ rambling by pressing their lips together.
“It was real,” Remus makes a face half way between a smirk and a grimace.
“Especially if the marks on your neck are anything to go by…….”
Sirius throws his head back and laughs at that and it's one of Remus’ favorite sounds.
Sirius stands and pulls Remus up with him.
“Come on, I need to go cover them up before people start thinking you're a vampire.”
Remus tilts his head at that, “Better than a werewolf I suppose.”
Sirius shakes his head. “None of that. Today is a happy day. I'm going to make the fittest person at this school my boyfriend.”
Remus’ laughs, “Going to ask yourself out, are you?”
“Ugh Moony, I meant you and you know it.”
They climb up the stairs laughing together and enter the dorm. Remus flops down onto his bed but not before picking up a stack of photos.
“Wormy strikes again,” he murmurs while thumbing through them while Sirius changes. He sets a photo of himself looking at Sirius while he smiles into the camera on his desk to stick up later. Sirius sits on the bed next to him now wearing one of Remus’ jumpers with a high collar.
“Petey pictures?” he asks motioning to the stack in Remus hands.
Remus nods and turns his hands to show Sirius the photo of Lily and him laughing. Sirius smiles.
“I'm glad we thought of getting him a camera. He's really good with it.”
Sirius stands and wanders over to James’ bed to see if there are any more photos. He grabs the stack and begins going through it. James and himself in an arm wrestle. James talking to Marlene. James and Regulus. Wait, what? Sirius sets the other photos down to reexamine this one. Sure enough there's his brother with James face tucked into his neck. Sirius stands there frozen trying to rationalize the photo. He can't.
“Remus. Would you ever hug Regulus?”
Remus looked up after hearing the odd tone in Sirius’ voice. “Uhm no, probably not, why?”
Sirius flipped the photo in his hand around to show him. Remus opened his mouth then closed it, his brow furrowing. Remus had noticed the two sneaking glances at each other but he hadn't thought anything of it at the time, other than that it was odd. He had assumed James was just keeping an eye on the younger Black as he did the older. Clearly, he had been wrong.
James chooses this moment to walk into the dorm. He doesn't notice the confusion and hurt painted across Sirius's face.
“Oh! Petey Pics! My favorite.” Smile lighting up his face but then he notices what's in the photograph and his smile disappears. He sticks his hands out in front of himself as if to surrender.
“I can explain Pads. Please, let me explain.”
“Unless your explanation is that you're a vampire I do not want to hear it!” Sirius yells.
Moony pipes up at this, “Are you sure you want that, love? You did compare me to a vampire earlier for what I'm assuming is a similar reason.”
“MOONY, NOT THE TIME.” Sirius says, sounding betrayed.
Remus shrugs and stands up.
“My brother, James, really? He's a baby! This is practically incest!”
“Ew, no! Don’t say that, it isnt incest!” James responds looking pale.
Sirius notices James is wearing the same clothes as last night but his hair is no longer slicked down from the gel he helped put in it. “Where did you sleep last night?”
James scratches the back of his neck. “Are you sure you want me to answer that?”
Remus drops his head and shakes it. “Wrong answer.”
“YOU BROTHER FUCKER!” Sirius launches himself at James but Remus grabs hold of his waist.
“Brother fucker, really Sirius?” Moony sighs and looks at James, “You know you could have at least warned me? I could've gotten him used to the idea.”
James shrugs, “I didn't think anything would actually happen and besides you were both preoccupied last night.”
Sirius, who is still struggling against the hold Remus has on him, huffs.
“What happened to you being in love with Lily?” Sirius demands.
“Uhm, we talked and I realized I was mostly just acting like that to tease her nowadays and she's also into someone else, but they haven't told anyone.”
Remus looks confused at this, “She told you who it was? She still won't tell me yet.”
“I walked in on them,” James explains.
Sirius sags against Remus' chest. “Can we please stay on topic! James is fucking my baby brother.”
“Sirius, I haven't. Not saying I wouldn't but he said not until I talk to you about it.”
“Reggie made you get permission?” Sirius asks, sounding surprised.
“Yes. I know you both act like you hate each other when face to face but behind closed doors you probably care more about each other than anyone else. He's also not going back to Grimmauld.”
“Where's he going? Oh don't tell me they've already married him off, he's only fifteen.”
“No, obviously they haven't married him off. We wouldn't be having this conversation otherwise. He's going to be staying with his friend Pandora.”
Sirius tilts his head looking very similar to his animagus counterpart. “Rosier? The twins?”
James nods, “From what he's said, their relationship is very similar to ours.” He motions with his fingers between them.
Sirius nods. He doesn't love the idea of them together. Doesn't really love the idea of anyone with Regulus but that might be because, in his mind, Regulus is still the little boy afraid of the dark and their mother. He straightens up running his hands down his shirt. Time to fulfill his role as big brother. He walks closer to James, making himself look as threatening as possible (which isn't much considering the height difference).
“If you hurt him, they'll never find the pieces.”
“Pieces of what?” James asks, confused.
Sirius sighs and drops his head into his hands. “Your body, obviously.”
James' mouth forms an O.
“Wait, you think I'd hurt him?” James frowns.
“Well, no, but I also don't really want to have to hide pieces of your body.”
“So, you're okay with us?” He asks, sounding hopeful.
Sirius wrinkles his nose. “I don't love it but if I trusted anyone to take care of Reg, it's you.”
James throws his arms around Sirius hugging him.
“Can we go to breakfast now?” Moony says around a yawn.
They all laugh and Sirius nods.
