It's the rustling of sheets in the bed below that makes Lu Guang's eyes snap open.
He's isn't exactly a light sleeper but Cheng Xiaoshi tossing and turning around in bed, plagued by whatever nightmare is currently haunting him, never fails to make Lu Guang wake up immediately.
He tries not to blame himself but realistically it's his fault. It's always the night after he dived back in time he's having nightmares and Lu Guang hates himself for pretty much being the cause of them.
He climbs down the bunk bed, eyes immediately locking onto Cheng Xiaoshi. The moon is almost full, illuminating Cheng Xiaoshi beautifully.
Lu Guang watches him for a moment, the furrowed brows, the labored breathing, then lifts his blanket so he can crawl into bed with him.
He wraps his arms around Cheng Xiaoshi, pulls him close to his chest and his breathing immediately slows down.
Lu Guang runs his fingers along the skin between Cheng Xiaoshi's eyebrows, presses down lightly to ease the frown before placing a soft kiss on his forehead.
“Lu Guang?“
He doesn't open his eyes and his voice is barely a whisper.
“Go back to sleep,“ Lu Guang says and squeezes him lightly, “It was just a bad dream.“
Cheng Xiaoshi just hums in response and presses his face to Lu Guang's chest.
He feels his heartbeat pick up in that way it always does when they are this close, when Cheng Xiaoshi reaches out for him and Lu Guang isn't sure if it's a conscious decision, whether he seeks him out because he wants to be close or whether it just happens naturally. But he doesn't mind either option.
Lu Guang pulls him even closer to his chest and buries his nose in unruly black hair, taking in his scent.
