Chapter Text
“Detective Flynn.” A young Detective who stood at 6’0 with tousled dirty blonde hair and beautiful sage green and ocean blue eyes greeted the taller as he walked into the crime scene, his voice had a noticeable Australian accent.
“Detective Jasper” The detective greets back as he begins to look around, the younger following. “What do we have?” Detective Jasper asks, wanting to know the basics of what he’s looking at, “We aren’t sure yet, it looks like a suicide but the bindings on the Vic’s arms and legs don’t make sense.” The younger nods along to what his fellow detective says, his eyes scanning the crime scene, “Thank you, Flynn,” He thanks, despite the words having little sincerity.
“Oi! Riley!” A voice called, the younger of the two detectives turned around, facing the owner of the voice, “Stacy.” He greets the brown-eyed blonde, “What do you need?” He asked, curious as to why his partner was at the crime scene and not at home, resting like she was supposed to be. “I’m just here to relay info, Chief says you’ve gotta work with another detective,” She says with a shrug, “since you’ve just got back from medical leave.” She stated as if it were obvious upon seeing the confused and slightly irritated look on Riley’s face,
“I can take care of myself,” he snarled, “Chief doesn’t think so,” she mused, obviously taking amusement in Riley’s frustration, “and honestly I don’t blame him, you’re reckless to say the very least.”
Throughout the whole ordeal, the taller Detective had been watching with a confused expression, the two in front of him acted like siblings.
Detective Flynn cleared his throat, gaining the attention of the duo, he gave them a look that conveyed his confusion and need for an explanation. “Right, apologies, I’m homicide detective Stacy Grace, as I am still on medical leave and Riley here has just come back, I have been informed that he will be working with another detective until further notice.” Stacy clarifies.
“I see. Thank you.” He answered with a nod, “Am I right in assuming that you’re Detective Liam Flynn?” Stacy inquired with a raised eyebrow, “You would be.” Liam confirms it further by presenting his badge to Stacy. Stacy nods before speaking again, “You and Detective Jasper will be working together on this case until you're told otherwise.” The blonde declared with a nonchalant expression as if she hadn’t just dropped the biggest load of bullshit ever on Riley.
“You’ve got to be fuckin' kidding me..” Riley muttered bitterly, “I’m afraid not Ray,” Stacy replied with a snicker. Riley grumbled something neither of the other detectives could hear. "Alright. Fine." He sighed before going back to the task at hand, the case that already didn't make sense. Liam bid Stacy goodbye before walking over to Riley.
"Witness accounts all say the same thing, A woman walked up to the roof alone, and 10 minutes later she fell, she went up alone and nobody came down. Officers have already checked the roof, there's no evidence of anyone else being up there." Riley nodded, taking in the information. "The surrounding buildings have cameras, we'll have to head over to them and review the footage, see what they caught." Riley finally turned to look at Liam, he wore a deadpan expression, but his eyes showed his annoyance, "Let's get it over with then." It was obvious that Riley didn't want to work this case with Liam, he knew it would be constricting and that Liam would be on his ass about doing things safely. He wanted nothing to do with it.
Liam led the way as the two left the crime scene, going under the yellow tape and making their way past the bystanders and press. They walked into a small bakery store with multiple stories, there was no one at the counter but Riley clocked the movement in the back as soon as they walked in. Riley stuck behind Liam as they walked up to the counter. Liam rang the little bell at the front and a young boy who looked about 16 rushed over from the back, "Welcome to Daren's Bakery! How may I help you today?" He asked with a genuine smile, "Hello, I'm Detective Liam Flynn, and this is my partner Detective Riley Jasper," both detectives showed their badges to the young boy, "Oh, well what can I do for you?" He asked with a slight head tilt, "Could we talk to the owner if possible?" The boy nodded before rushing out to the back, within a few minutes he returned, only this time he was accompanied by an older-looking man with a bit of a gut and very little hair, the man wore a dark blue shirt and black, baggy pants and a white apron. Riley recognised him immediately, why was he in LA? Last Riley had heard he was dead, so how was he here?
