Tanjiro's entire body ached that battle against Daki and Gyutaro and been the closest he'd gotten to death's door it was a pure miracle that he and the others survived.
He laid on his bed in the butterfly Inn it was currently night time and he had just woke up 2 days ago and he still hurt like hell.
Tanjiro could still feel the cuts and bruises on his body but his stamina had healed quite a lot so at least he was able to walk around.
As he laid on his bed trying to fall asleep Tanjiro's ears twitched and he sniffed the air he smelled a faint smell of flowers and sugar.
It was a very sweet scent and it was getting closer to his door. And as it got closer He recognized it was that Kanao?
The sweet scent suddenly stopped at the door and Tanjiro could hear a very gentle voice.
"Come on, Kanao you can do it"
Tanjiro smiled he knew who it was now, Kanao. Tanjiro felt his heart skip a beat and he quickly got out of his bed to open the door.
"Kanao, is that you?"
Tanjiro opened the door and saw Kanao standing in front of him. She looked vulnerable with our her sword And uniform currently wearing a night gown
She had a uncharacteristic nervous look on her face.
"Ah Tanjiro, I'm sorry did I wake you up?"
"No, you didn't I was just laying on my bed when you arrived."
Tanjiro said smiling at the girl.
"I see, um well I know you're probably tired but I wanted to come
here and talk to you, do you mind if I come in?"
"Oh of course."
Tanjiro stepped aside to let Kanao in and then he closed the door behind them.
"Please sit down Kanao."
Tanjiro said as he pointed to the bed.
"Thank you"
Kanao sat down on the bed and Tanjiro joined her.
"So what did you want to talk about Kanao?"
Tanjiro asked.
"It's um....about the fight with the Upper Moons."
"Yes? What about it?" Tanjiro asked puzzled until he saw Kanao shaking and the tears coming out of the corners of her beautiful eyes.
"I was so worried, Tanjiro! I thought you were going to die when the kakushi brought you in!"
Tears were falling out of her eyes and she was shaking.
Tanjiro was shocked he had never seen Kanao like this before and he didn't know how to react.
"I was so scared, Tanjiro. I'm so glad you're safe."
Kanao said as she wiped her tears away.
Tanjiro suddenly embraced Kanao in a hug and placed his face on her shoulder.
"It's okay Kanao, I'm fine now, everything is alright." Tanjiro said to reassure her
Kanao was taken by surprise but she eventually hugged Tanjiro back. The two of them sat there in each others arms for what felt like hours to them.
Eventually Kanao spoke.
"Tanjiro, I love you."
Tanjiro's eyes widened and he pulled out of the hug and looked Kanao in the eyes.
"What?"
"I said I love you Tanjiro. I don't know why or how but I love you so much."
Kanao said as she looked away in embarrassment.
"Kanao, I don't know what to say."
"Please don't die Tanjiro, I can't lose you."
"Kanao I can't promise you that I won't die, but I can promise that I will do everything I can to survive."
Tanjiro said as he looked Kanao in the eyes.
"I love you Kanao"
Tanjiro then cupped Kanao's cheeks and leaned in to kiss her on the lips.
The kiss was soft and gentle at first and eventually Kanao kissed him back, there was no lust or rush in it the two simply found comfort in their moment of intimacy.
After they finished kissing they laid on Tanjiro's bed,
Tanjiro and Kanao laid together on the bed as Kanao put her face on Tanjiro's chiseled chest while Tanjiro held her close the two fell asleep in each other's arms.
The next morning Tanjiro woke up to find Kanao's arms still wrapped around him her delicate face never looked so beautiful to him.
He swore so long as he drew breath
he would protect her from any harm that came her way.
He planted a soft kiss on her forehead and she smiled in her sleep.
Then the door opened and Shinobu walked in.
"Oh my, did I interrupt something?"
The Insect pillar asked with a smirk.
Tanjiro blushed.
"I-It's not what you think Miss Shinobu! Kanao came here to visit me last night and we talked and we um...kissed but that was it!"
Tanjiro explained as he held his hands up.
Suddenly Kanao had awaken from the sudden noise and movement
"Tanjiro what is..." Kanao trailed off once she realized her older sister was in the room looking at them with a knowing smirk.
"Good morning Kanao." Shinobu said
Kanao jumped off the bed and bowed to her sister.
"M-Morning sister"
Shinobu laughed.
"It's fine Kanao no need to be so nervous, but I do hope you two were careful."
Tanjiro and kanao blushed so red that a tomato would look pale in comparison knowing what Shinobi was referring to by being 'careful'
"Very well, I came here to check on Tanjiro but I can see you're makings sure he's all comfortable but also I don't wanna be a aunty yet bye you two."
Shinobu said with a giggle.
Kanao and Tanjiro both had their heads down in embarrassment as Shinobu left the room.
"Well, that was awkward."
Tanjiro said as he scratched the back of his neck.
"Indeed." Kanao said as she fixed her hair.
Tanjiro then remembered that they had kissed last night and he blushed.
"Um Kanao, about what happened last night."
Kanao cut him off with a kiss.
"I meant every word I said I love you tanjiro"
Tanjiro smiled and returned her kiss.
"I love you too"
Tanjiro said as he looked Kanao in the eyes.
"Do you want to get something to eat? He said as his stomach growled. Kanao in turn giggled
"Yeah let's go"
