Work Text:
The satisfaction and warmth that someone could give you with their mere presence was one of the most beautiful things that could happen. Two people who shared similar tastes, had almost identical personalities and were warm and affectionate with each other was a gratifying and wonderful feeling.
He was lucky to know the lovely pink hedgehog, a woman full of joy, love, solidarity, honesty, kindness and an inner as well as outer beauty. It was amazing that she could count on you, give you support and everything you needed to keep going. She was the soul of the group.
His eyes could stare at her for hours, although he knew that would look like stalker behavior, so he resisted looking at her for so long. But it was unavoidable, seeing her filled his heart with warmth and tenderness; her beauty was dazzling. "Too bad she doesn't belong to your timeline," he muttered in frustration, his own mind had always been his worst enemy.
He knew that his love was illicit, and although it seemed like something out of a literary work, that was his reality; he should not fall in love, but it was too late, he was deeply in love and he could not stop that feeling. What was done was done, and his biggest mistake was to allow his emotions to move forward.
"Silver, remember the rule of time: don't fall in love with someone from your past." Blaze's voice echoed in his mind, as if he knew this was going to happen, more than reminding him, it seemed to warn him. So now what was he supposed to do?
"The best thing would be for you to tell him, Silver." But what was the point, she couldn't make sense of Sonic's comment, why tell her if it wouldn't change anything in the end? It would only make things worse and Amy would see it differently, possibly walk away from him, he wouldn't allow it!
"If I were in your place, I wouldn't mind breaking the rules that forbid me to live." It was unfortunate, first of all, Shadow was known for breaking all kinds of rules, of course it was easy for him to say that, he had a natural predisposition to defy the rules. But his case was different, he could not allow himself to break any rules, for he knew he would be betraying the laws of time that had been imposed on him, and besides, he did not have the courage to do so even if he wanted to.
It was so devastating.
But... something was escaping him.
What if Amy didn't feel the same way?
Just thinking about that possibility was even more heartbreaking. If she didn't share his feelings, he would surely be humiliated to realize that he alone had fallen in love. It was likely that Amy thought the minimal affection she had shown him was enough to captivate him...it would be embarrassing if things were like that. What was he going to do?
"Tell her, what else do you lose by confessing to her?". Again that blue hedgehog, maybe he was right, but that turned out to be so complicated, I couldn't go and say, "Amy, I'm attracted to you, but I'm only telling you because I want to get rid of this burden I'm carrying on my shoulders."
Mmh... it didn't sound like such a crazy idea.
Damn Sonic, now he understood what she meant; it wasn't about them or her, it was about himself, about being able to free himself from that anguish that was eating away at his mind. He would seek peace, nothing more. Yes, he had to try.
"Amy," he called her affectionately to the pink one in front of him, tending one of her beautiful flowers with delicacy and affection.
He had almost forgotten where he was, at the woman's house, accompanying her on a gardening moment. It was a perfect moment, it seemed like the universe was telling him it was the right time.
"Tell me, Silver," the female abandoned her chores to give him her attention. Those emerald eyes so bright and enchanting.
"I need to tell you something," her voice flowed with a surprising fluidity, a surprise to himself, no doubt this was his moment and he should seize it.
"Anything, you know it's all welcome." Amy let out a small laugh, a gesture that touched him.
"It’s all welcome" began to echo in his mind. He smiled warmly at those encouraging words.
"I'm in love with you."
Amy's smile began to fade little by little, her expression changed drastically, she was so surprised that even her hands descended, this filled Silver with astonishment.
Had she screwed up, should she have been confident?
"E-eh, I'm not saying it to make you feel pressured to reciprocate, I'm not looking for that!", his hands desperately grabbed Amy's, an action he regretted and released them immediately, he didn't want to make things worse. "I just felt the need to express it, I know that looking for something else would be impossible, but I wanted to free myself from this feeling. Sorry if it made you uncomfortable!", he sounded so desperate, but seeing her like this was the last thing he wanted.
Amy looked directly into his amber eyes, he sounded sincere yet apologetic. No, he hadn't made her uncomfortable at all, it just took her by surprise because what he had said was something she had expected to hear at some point. However, knowing the rule Blaze and Silver had, there was no point in telling her, as she felt it would overwhelm the albino and their friendship might be ruined because of their mutual feelings.
She took the hedgehog's hands, seeking his touch again, disconcerting the albino as she realized what she was doing. One of her hands rested on his face, stroking his cheeks softly and gently.
"Silver." Both of their gazes glowed brightly, Silver was shocked and confused by everything. "I feel the same way too."
The whitish hedgehog was surprised to hear her, the girl's smile made him feel calm, his negative thoughts disappeared when he saw her.
And once again, that gratifying feeling completely took over him and apparently Amy as well; there was so much love and affection in the air. The feelings were reciprocated, however, there was one big main problem.
"But what good would it do us to feel the same if we can't cultivate that love?" a laugh escaped the lips of the pink one, who rounded the table that separated them to stand in front of the telepath, who wrapped his arms around her waist.
"True, unfortunately we can only be friends, but we won't deny the love we feel for each other either, as that would hurt us both," her words brimmed with love, which comforted the albino. "I'd rather know that we love each other than have to pretend otherwise," he was glad to hear her say.
"Believe me, if there was any chance of us being together, I wouldn't hesitate to accept it in the slightest." Amy stroked his shoulders and the back of his neck with her hands, noting the difference in height, which endeared Silver even more.
"I know, I wouldn't hesitate to be with you either," the emerald-eyed girl stood on her tiptoes to reach for the hedgehog's face.
Their lips melted into a kiss brimming with love and happiness. Even if their love could not be, that did not plunge them into sadness, for they both had an optimistic outlook on things.
Maybe it couldn't be this time, but they were confident that at some point, in some universe or even in another life, they would finally be together.....
As they always should have been.
