Chapter 1: softened

Chapter Text

For most of the time you had been apart of the Spider-society, you had deemed Miguel O'hara as your father. Not because he treated you like a daughter (he did) but because you had lost your actual father during a canon event. But because Miguel was basically your dad, he monitored every single dimension you went to. And the dimension he strictly prohibited you from going to was Earth-42. Not because of the whole anomaly situation, but because he was afraid you would get to attach to a certain someone there and break the canon, just like Gwen.

Or at least that what you imagined he thought, because you considered yourself to be a person to never get attached to anyone, unless you had to. Like Miguel. You had to get attached to him because you had to see him every fucking day.

But back to Earth-42. You had already visited Earth-42 a few times, just to see what it was like. Mrs. Drew had covered for you a few times, but she said something you can recall sound like "Girl, I'm not doing this everyday. When Miguel finds out you been going where you not supposed to he gone chew you out, n' I'm not getting in the middle of that."

And you replied: "Well, he wont find out if no one tells him, right?"

And all she could say was: "You know he'll find out, he always does." Before strutting away.

Today you were paying Earth-42 a visit, you got that boy you'd been seeing a gift, though he didn't really like gifts. But you knew that already, he never had to tell you.

Your fingers tapped his bedroom window impatiently, seemingly creating your own song in your head. That was until the window flung open and you fell unto the hardwood floor.

"Wow Miles, you're a realll gentleman, you know that?" You questioned him sarcastically. "Anyway before you rudely ask me what I'm here for, I brought you a gift."

"[NAME] you know I--" Miles sighed as you cut him off.

"I know, I know. But it's an away gift. Because I don't think I'll be seeing you for like- the rest of my life, once I go back to HQ." You explained as you handed him a giant purple care bear, smelled just like you too.

"So why not just stay? I mean- I you can't see me anymore but you wanna see me all the time, just stay. It wouldn't really make a difference." The way he sounded so nonchalant about it just made your blood boil, as if he weren't even trying to understand.

"Thats the thing Miles, I CAN'T. My bo-" You sighed. "My dad always knows where to find me on his own. Thats why I'm certain he knows I'm here right now." You voice sounded strained, your heart ached.

This is it. This is why Miguel told you not to come here. This is why he PROHIBITED you from every visiting this place. But you didn't listen. You never did. Time after time again, you always made your way back here. Now you finally realized why you came back here. Because you were getting attached.

Not to Earth-42, but to him. You were getting attached to Miles.

"Soo, what do you want me to do about that? Like there's physically nothing that I can possibly do."

"Do you just not care? Miles I can never see you again! Thats like- 28 months of friendship down the drain." Tears pricked yours, cheeks heating up.

Miles just sat across from you on his bed, looking up at you with that same unconcerned look he always had. Now was the time that he really should start showing some form of care, but he didn't. Though, deep down inside of him, it was eating him alive. Miles knew that he needed you, he knew that you are literally everything he's ever wanted in a human being. You were too good to him, too good for him, and the thought of you made him swoon. Miles couldn't live without you and if the twi of you never met then he probably would have died a long time ago.

Miles just shrugged, not at you, but the emotions he was feeling. But you took it the wrong way and believed he was just saying "I don't care, life goes on."

"Seriously Miles? You just don't give a fuck?" You asked him.

He was going to explain himself as he said "I never said tha-" But you cut him off again.

"You know what, I won't miss you either, bye." You said as you opened up a portal to HQ and left through it.

But the thing is, you knew you would. You knew you miss him. So much that as soon as you got to the lobby you sat next to Hobie and started bawling your eyes out. It was rare to ever see you cry because of your fierce attitude. You were the one who made other people cry, most of the time.

"Yo, you alrigh' kid?" Hobie asked you.

"Y-yepp, I'm TOTALLY finee." You looked up from your tear-soaked palms, a sad smile plastered on you face as your hands contorted into two "Thumbs up" symbols.

"Need a hug?" He asked, all you could do was nod before he embraced you warmly.

The two of you sat in silence for a few moments as your sobs died down to sniffles. Though that silence was short lived when Hobie said:

"By the way boss was callin' for ya, says he needs to have a chat witcha'."
