Summary:

You're pretty much blind as a bat, but Daesung is still very pretty.

Work Text:

For the better part of thirty years, you had been what the kids call “blind as shit.” Since you were old enough to wear them, you’d had glasses. Coke-bottle lenses that gave you a bug-eyed stare and hurt people’s heads when they tried them on. You’d tried contacts when you were in high school, but as it turned out, that was something people could be allergic to; lucky you.

That meant that nights like tonight, where you were on the red carpet of a movie premiere, you had to fly blind. Your glasses tended to flash the lights back into people’s eyes, which wasn’t something you really felt like doing. Luckily for you, one of your label mates and your closest friend was due to be at the event as well, and he loved acting like your guide dog.

Kang Daesung was one of the first friends you’d ever made when you joined YG, and it hadn’t taken you long for you to fall for his cute smile and sweet disposition. It didn’t help that he made it his personal mission to stay by your side at every event you’d ever attended together, making sure you didn’t run into or trip over something in the dark. It made your heart flutter, the way he treated you as his partner despite never actually asking you to be.

Even now, as you sat in the back of the car, your managers driving the pair of you back to your respective homes, your head was on his shoulder, and his arm was around your waist.

“I can’t believe you’re really leaving in two days.” You sigh, fiddling with one of the rings on his hand.

“What will you do without me?” He giggles, which has you grinning. “I heard a rumor that your contract is gonna be up soon.”

“Yeah, a few months.” You admit, “I- I really don’t know if I want to renew.”

“Wait, really?” You sit up, wanting to look at him properly. “How come?”

“In all the years I’ve worked for YG, they never let me get Lasik or wear my glasses outside. It’s dangerous, and you’re not always there. I don’t deserve to be afraid to go to events.” He’s quiet for a moment, studying your face.

“If you’d be happier, I won’t ask you to stay.” He finally manages to mumble.

“Would you ask me to stay if it weren’t for that?” If he was leaving in two days, you wanted to know the truth. You’d been in constant contact for nearly a decade, and now he was going to be out of your reach for a long time.

“I’d ask you to stay with me.” He admits, “But I want you happy more than anything, and I want you safe.”

“I suppose that’s the conundrum then,” You hum, “I’m safer away from YG, but I’m happier next to you.” The car is silent for a moment. There’s something like shock on his face, but his eyes are darting all over yours, like he’s searching for something. Then, his grin is back, and he’s tearing his gaze away from you.

“Pabo.” He laughs, earning a smack on the arm from you. “Hey.”
“Meanie.” You huff, “I’m not a pabo.”
“Yeah, you are. You’re making it sound like you like me or something.”
“Maybe I do.” You finally blurt, hearing your managers make noises of shock in the front seat. “Maybe I do like you, and I want to tell you that, but I just don’t know how.” His grin only grows, and before you can blink, he’s leaning close to cup your cheeks and kiss you right on the lips.
“You are so cute.” He chuckles as he pulls away. “I’ll see you in two days, okay? Come see me off.” Then he’s climbing out of the car. You hadn’t realized how quickly you’d gotten to his neighborhood.
“What? Hey, you can’t just-” You call after him, but he just turns to smile and give a small salute. “Actually, you can go to hell.” You decide, though you can’t keep the grin off your face.
“I’ll see you in two days.”
“Pabo.” You grumble, sitting back in your seat as your manager pulls away. “Neither of you says anything, got it? This is a secret.” You see them share a glance in the front seat, then nod.
     “Of course.”
“And clear my schedule for his enlistment, please.”
     “Of course."
