Chapter Text
The light shines on his eyes, there lies Natsuki Rigel blinking from the rays of sunlight coming from open parts of his curtains, “Ugh, not so bright.” He moves his left arm and rubs his eyes adjusting to the sunlight.
“I got you!” A familiar voice rushes in tackling Rigel on his bed.
“Hey! Let go!” Rigel shouts out to his father Natsuki Subaru, “Isn’t it a bit too early for this!? Last thing I need is for Chocorina and Spica to see me in this position!” Subaru doesn’t back off and continues to tackle his son.
“Ah c’mon Rigel, my old man used to do this to me! You just gotta fight back!” Subaru boosts proudly, however Rigel takes his advice very quickly.
“Alright then… I got you now!” Rigel rolls towards the wall with his father and smashes him on the wall.
“Agh! Hey, no fair I wasn’t prepared for that!” Subaru but gets a taste of his own medicine, “Ow! Ow! Ow! Ok ok ok! You win!” Rigel lets go of his leg, and they both laugh until they hear the small pattering of footsteps.
“Dad, what's going on? Is Rigel being mean again?” Chocorina peaks her head with sharp eyes from her father, from behind the door with Black hair and Blue eyes, Spica also peeks her head as well.
“Yes, Spica is curious as well, Rigel please don’t be mean to father, my sometimes Spica wonders why you must be cruel to him…” Spica shakes her head in disapproval.
“H-Hey wait! It’s not what it looks like! I swear! Please Spica and Chocorina, you two are both my favorite sisters!” Rigel tries to defend his actions and turns to his father lying on a pillow, “I wasn’t that cruel to you!”.
“My oh my Spica and Chocorina, tell your mothers that I was a victim of Rigel! Ack I don’t think I’m going to make it!” Subaru sits up and pretends to be dying, “I feel like I’m going to die of a heart attack!” He puts his hands on his chest.
“You moth-”Rigel is quickly cut off.
“Rigel! ” He turns his head to see his mother Rem walking in with Emilia both giving a disappointed expression onto him, and walks into the room.
“Why me…” Rigel pouts and sighs.
“Rigel you shouldn’t say that around Spica and Chocorina!” Emilia points her finger and scolds Rigel.
“Yes Mother Emilia…” He sighs still kneeling on his bed and getting pats on the head from Subaru.
“Do you think you could give him a freebie just for today?” Subaru gets up from Rigels bed stepping onto the warm rug and rubs the back of his head.
“But Dad!” Chocorina and Spica enter the room questioning Subaru’s choice.
“No buts Spica and Chocorina.” Subaru says the both of them pout, “Now… isn’t it breakfast for the both of you?” Subaru questions.
“Alright Spica is off!” Spica quickly runs out of the room.
“H-Hey wait, don't leave me behind sister!” Chocorina follows from behind.
“Fine… I’m gonna eat a sandwich though…” Rigel gets up, putting on his sandals and trails from behind, and as soon as Rigel leaves.
“My, my, Subaru-kun and Emilia, don’t the three of them look so adorable?” Rem puts her hands to her cheeks and smiles and proceeds to sit on Rigel’s bed.
“I know right? Chocorina and Spica really bond well like sisters!” Emilia smiles, “I’m reeeeally happy they got some of their looks from their father!” She smiles while looking at Subaru.
“Aw c’mon Emilia-tan and Rem-rin, they take their personalities from the both of you! And the way they pout! It’s like Beako and I could just pinch their cheeks anytime I want to!” Subaru dotes on the two half sisters, “They somewhat remind me of Ram and Rem, Rigel even though he may sometimes be annoying… the rule of being a father is to torment and taunt their son until they are ready!”
“Ready for what Subaru?” Emilia tilts her head and leans onto a wall.
“Ehhh it’s nothing too important, besides I’m gonna cook for all of you today!” Subaru exclaims.
“Is Subaru-kun sure? Rem could make breakfast for today…” Rem feels unsure, however.
“It’ll be fine! Besides, when has my cooking ever been bad?” Subaru asks both of his wives.
“Well there was the time Subaru-kun tried to make soo…der?” Rem clicks her tongue at the strange word.
“And the time you tried to prefabricate pop…corn.” Emilia tilts her head.
“Nobody says prefabricate anymore Emilia-tan.” Subaru starts to chuckle a bit.
“Tons of people say it! Chocorina and Rigel use it from time to time!” Emilia scolds Subaru and Rem giggles at the antics of the two.
The comforts of a loving family, Subaru is happy to feel love, and starts walking towards the door while holding Rem and Emilia’s hands.
The sun slowly rises from the snowy hills bringing a new day for Subaru and his family in another world. The man who suffered so much, it’s been nine years since he was banished, eight after Rigel’s birth, seven after Chocorina’s birth, and four years after Spica's birth.
All six members sit at the large rectangle table, Natsuki Subaru, Natsuki Emilia, Natsuki Rem, Natsuki Rigel, Natsuki Chocroina, and the youngest of the family Natsuki Spica. Mostly everyone is having a conversation until, “Subaru!” Subaru turns to the entrance to the dining room to see.
“Beako!” Subaru calls her out, “Wait… oh right sorry Beako, I was so busy tormenting Rigel that I forgot to wake you up!” He exclaims while also Rigel gives his father an annoyed expression.
“You do know, you can always STOP annoying me so early in the morning, and wake up Aunt Beako!” Rigel exclaims however Subaru ignores his son’s statement.
“Nonsense! It’s my job to torment you until the end of time!” Rigel scoffs at his fathers declaration.
“Grrrr! Silence the both of you, in fact! Betty just wants to eat in peace!” Beatrice shouts out loud with Rigel punching his father’s arm during the shenanigans.
“Well Dad, looks like you’ll be busy with Aunt Beako, well after I’m done eating, I’ll just spend time with my adorable little sisters!” Rigel proudly exclaims, until.
“As for Rigel, you must help Betty with organizing her books, in fact.”
Rigel turns his head to Beatrice who now sits between his sisters and says, “Huh? W-Wait I didn’t enlist to help you!” He fires back but Beatrice scolds him.
“Rigel is now becoming very aggressive, he truly is becoming like his father, haaaa…Betty is now curious on where she went wrong, in fact…” She sighs, “Haaa…at least Betty has the comfort of the two half siblings.”
“Hey don’t put me with the old man! We’re not that same…” Rigel mumbles the last statement.
“Don’t worry Aunt Beatrice, Spica and sister Chocorina won’t change like her brother Rigel!” Spica exclaims. “But we’ll be sure to help Rigel from embracing his version of Dad!”
“You do have to excuse Rigel… I feel like he’s gaining some of these dunderhead traits from Dad…” Chocorina tries to defend her brother's dignity or what’s left of it. “We’ll try to… fix him.”
“Spica… Chocorina…” Rigel blinks a bit from these mini betrayals he’s getting from his sisters. “Haaa… at least you’re the only two I can count on.”
“Betty can always count on both of you, in fact.” Beatrice gives the both of them a bright and big smile.
“Chocorina would you care for some green peppirs?” Emilia calls out to her daughter, “I mean I reeeeally don’t need to eat these little monsters, and I’m all grown up!” She says while holding a plate of green peppirs, causing Chocorina to give a disgruntled look.
“But moooooom-”
“No buts missy! You’re still a growing girl, and me and your father want what’s best for you!” Emilia picks up her fork and pushes the green peppirs onto Chocorina’s plate.
“Emilia-tan, I’m pretty sure you also need to eat green peppirs as well, I mean you are growing still…” Subaru tilts his head when he turns his head.
“Nonsense Subaru! I mean…” Emilia tries to defend her action but Chocorina sees an opportunity and takes it.
“But Mom like you said, I’m a growing girl, but so are you too!” She grabs her plate and stands on her chair to stretch to her mothers chair, while knocking over the mayonnaise and salt, “So buckle up and eat your peppirs!”
“I don’t like your tone now Chocorina, I suggest you change it up…” Emilia lowers her banes to make a scary look Subaru taught her.
“Eeep!” Chocorina flinches, but Rem interferes.
“Emilia, Rem requires assistance with her chores.” Rem says while trying to cover Chocorina, “Perhaps she can eat Emilia and Chocorina’s green peppirs.” She says trying to resolve the dispute between the two elves.
Around thirty minutes pass by, Rigel is the first to finish his breakfast, Chocorina and Spica finish at the same time, Rem is third, Emilia is fourth, and Subaru is given more peppirs from Beatrice because: “Betty doesn’t need vegetables! She grows from the sweets Spica and Chocorina give her, in fact!” Subaru scoffs at this remark, “What was that?”
“Erm! Nothing nothing…” He tries to make an excuse, “Right… So what's the plan for today's gang?” Rigel makes a “tch” sound.
“Well father, Spica and Chocorina, have made plans with Rigel for both our hair, and Spica has to do some… chores.” Spica says while looking away.
“Eh!? B-But Spica don’t you like it when I do your hair?” Subaru asks but he is quickly struck in the heart.
“Spica is sorry but… how does she say this? Spica wants to try new hairstyles, but when the time returns to get her old style back, she will ask father.” Spica and Chocorina both get up and walk towards the exit.
“Spica let’s go, right now let’s see if we can find those… tea cups!” Chocorina says.
“Oh yeah, Chocorina’s right! Let’s go find it, Spica and Chocorina will see you later, Rigel!” The two half siblings leave the dining room, Rigel sitting down has no expression and keeps a poker face but deep down he’s extremely excited to spend time with his two adorable sisters.
“Right! Well if you’ll excuse me I’m gonna go do… homework!” Rigel excuses himself and leaves the dining room leaving Rem, Emilia, and Subaru alone together.
“Huh? You know what it’s nice that they’re spending time with each other… even though I do hold pride in the hairstyles I do…” Subaru says while getting glances from Emilia and Rem.
“I mean if you can work on our hair Subaru~ me and Rem like it when you work on our hair.” Emilia winks with Rem tagging along.
“Emilia is right, Subaru-kun, afterall she doesn’t complain about how soothing it is!” Subaru tilts his head with the two women giggling.
“Betty sometimes doesn’t understand what the… chemistry is between those two bleh” Beatrice scoffs at the three, gets up, and leaves the kitchen. “Rigel, Betty knows that you finished your homework, in fact!”
In their room, Spica opens the closet to reveal a wooden house her father had made for the two children. The architecture looks weird considering how it was smaller like a cube shape. “Chocorina, can you grab the dolls?” She turns to the quarter elf who nods, going into the closest grabbing two dolls.
“And… here they are! Hi Naoko and Kenichi!” Chocoriina was told by her father to take great care of these dolls, because they were special to him. He even gave them names, though Naoko and Kenichi sound like weird names for some dolls. Making a voice for Naoko, she speaks. “Hi Choc Choc! It’s been a while since we last played, hasn't it?”
“It reeeeeally has been! Sorry for leaving you and Mr. Kenichi in that dusty closet for a week! I’ve just been busy in the snow!”
“Oof! Are you going to speak to those dolls all day sister?” Spica pouts holding the wooden house. “Come on, let's play!” She then puts the house down. Opening it items that she still has a hard time to understand. “Can Spica be Mr. Kenichi?” She holds out her hands.
“Ah right!” Chocorina hands over the Kenichi dolls, there’s some dust on it, but Spica dusts it off. “Oh wait, I’m forgeeeeting one other!” She puts down Naoko to go into the closet to grab a smaller doll. A little boy with black hair and clothes such as a t-shirt with a marking and shorts that looks unfamiliar.
“Don’t forget me! Natsumi!” The quarter elf makes a goofy voice.
“Pfft! Hahahaha!” Spica giggles at this small joke. “Good one Chocorina! That’s a good voice!” The half Oni holds up Kenichi. “Son! Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you!”
“Oh it’s nothing Dad! I went to the village with Mom, right Mom?” Chocorina grabs the Naoko doll. “Oh! Yup, I’ve been watching Natsumi in the village, he’s been making friends with the neighbors.”
“The neighbors wanted me to give you guys these tea cups, they said we were reeeeeally nice and wanted to give us a give!” She pulls out the white teacups that had silver lining by the edge and pink plates. “So let’s give it a try!”
“Hmmm, alright then. Spica thinks she has some tea.” Spica grabs a vase of water and pours it onto the teacups. “Only a little bit more…” Some water spills and lands on the wooden planks. “Oops! Spica didn’t mean for that to happen!”
“Spica…! Mom, Mother Emilia, and Dad aren’t going to be too happy when they find out about this small mess…”
“Relax, Spica has this covered!” The half Oni uses her sleeve to soak up all the water. “This is a bit uncomfortable. But Spica can handle it!” She smiles.
“Mhm, very well Spica.” Chocorina puts the Naoko doll on a chair, grabs the teacup, and puts it on the plate. “Mmmm! This tea is reeeeally good! What did they put it, Subaru?” She pretends for Subaru to be drinking the tea.
“All they put was honey and tea leaves! It’s good!” They continue to pretend to be drinking tea, smile and laugh as they continue to play.
“Ugh… I wish I didn’t have to be here. Why did you have to drag me?” Rigel complains while holding a stack of books on top of his head and is holding. “I could be with my little sisters and playing with them, Aunt Beako haaaa…”
“Jeez don’t be like that, in fact.” Beatrice writes down a few words in a book. “Don’t forget what Betty is teaching you, perhaps Betty should reconsider teaching you to use your magic Rigel or talk to Garfiel and Meili about your training.”
“Do that and I’ll ignore you for the rest of my life Aunt Beako.” Rigel sternly says
“Hah! You truly are like your father, Betty was merely joking, in fact.” Beatrice crosses her arms in a prideful expression.
“Yeah yeah, so what are you writing now? Is it a spell for us to try during our free time?”
“You could say that, it’s basically just a memory album that Betty is putting together, there’s some spells here and there. But Betty will write them for future generations.”
“A memory album, and some spell? Aren’t your memories already fine?” Rigel tilts his head causing the books on top of his head to fall. “Ugh…! I’m not picking those up.”
“Betty wants to spend some time with you Rigel, after all. Subaru is busy from time to time even though he promised me memories. However spending time with his offspring can fill in his gaps, only for a little.”
“So that’s why you brought me here… hey I have a question.” Beatrice looks at Rigel while furrowing her brow. “How did you meet Dad again? It wasn’t really clear last time you told me…”
“Mhm Betty should have Felix check on you for any effects from Subaru.”
“Huh, what’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing, so when Betty first met Subaru, Betty was in a library for over four hundred years. Don’t ask why she was in the library for that long. Betty was… waiting for something important to happen. Subaru came into the library, I didn’t see anything in him before, but the following months she was proven wrong, even when Betty’s forbidden library burned down.” Beatrice smiles at the memory.
“Choose me Beatrice!” The Forbidden library fell apart as the fire burned, “ You want someone to get you out of here! Isn’t that why you always sat right in front of this door!?” Beatrice sheds one small tear while Rigel isn’t looking, then quickly wipes it away.
“I see, so this library, was it fully burnt down?”
“Yes, there was nothing left behind besides ashes. That’s why Betty is replicating all the knowledge she has. When you or your siblings have children, Betty wants to teach them the greatness of Subaru and knowledge from the forbidden library, I suppose.”
“So all those books were burnt? Damn it Dad…” Rigel frowns at the idea of tons of knowledge being burnt away. “But then again… we wouldn’t have met you if it weren’t for the old man Aunt Beako.”
“Thank you Rigel, Betty is happy to have met you, still don’t treat her like a child, in fact.” Beatrice puts down the pencil and closes the book. “You can put those books over there.” Beatrice points to a shelf where Rigel nods and puts the books.
“Finally… What is the book you’re writing called?” Rigel walks over to Beatrice looking over her shoulder.
“The first generation of the Natsuki Bloodline , I suppose.” Beatrice grabs the book and puts it under her sleeve. “Come now Rigel, let us go.” Beatrice starts walking with Rigel following behind her.
The story of Natsuki Subaru rests, not fully. But the story of the Natsuki Bloodline has just started.
