It was December and the weather was cold and snowy which was a bad thing for akutagawa and his weak immune system.
He was currently laying in him and atsushi's shared bed extremely sick with what is seeming to be turning into pneumonia, his face was more pale than normal and he had deep bags under his eyes from lack of sleep due to his monster cough and chest pain keeping him up all night for the last few days, he had only gotten a few hours of sleep which wasn't helping him one bit, along with the cough and chest pain he was having issues breathing and was constantly nauseous and had a high fever.
“I'm back ryu” atsushi says in a soft tone as he enters the bedroom, he had briefly left to get more medicine and something to help akutagawa sleep. He walks over to his sickly lover and places his hand on his forehead, atsushi's head is considerably cooler than akutagawa is so he leans into the touch.
Atsushi let's out a sad sigh, “it hasn't gone down at all” he kisses akutagawa's forehead “I got some fever patches for you would you like to try them” akutagawa just nods, his throat in too much pain to say much. Atsushi places a fever patch on akutagawa's forehead then gets out some of the medicine he got.
“I got a different sleeping medicine for you to try” akutagawa hums in content, adoring how caring his boyfriend is to him. It had taken a while but Akutagawa wasn't as ashamed to appear weak or accept help from Atsushi as he was at first.
Atsushi doses out the medicine and hands it to Akutagawa who takes it in a swift gulp. After he takes the medicine he gets a bit drowsy and hold atsushi's hand in his weak one and gestures for him to lay with him, atsushi happily obliges and holds akutagawa in his arms and strokes his hair to comfort him “you must feel miserable don’t you love” atsushi ask’s sadly, he hates seeing Akutagawa like this but has grown used to it and has learned how to take care of him which Akutagawa greatly appreciates even if he doesn’t show it the best. Akutagawa nods and nestles into atsushi more . A few minutes later akutagawa has fallen deep into sleep in atsushi's lap, atsushi kisses his forehead and continues to stay by akutagawa's side the whole time he sleeps.
When akutagawa wakes a few hours later it's not peaceful, he wakes up in a coughing fit that deeply pains his chest and leaves him gasping for breath and coughing up excess mucus in his lungs, akutagawa moves his hand about, try to find atsushi but can't which makes him panic and cough more “Easy love I'm here” atsushi starts to rub gentle circles into akutagawa's back but it doesn't seem to do much good, akutagawa's cough get more strained and pained as more mucus and gunk comes up.
“H-help m-me” akutagawa weakly mutters to atsushi between coughs, he's on the verge of passing out at this point. Atsushi isn't sure what to do, then suddenly Akutagawa jumps up and falls to the floor, then gets back up again and rushes to the bathroom. Atsushi chases after him and finds him gagging into the toilet, his knuckles white from gripping the sides, Atsushi rushes over and kneels beside the puking man, he pulls his hair out of his face and secures it with a spare hair tie.
“Let it all out ryu” atsushi says as he runs akutagawa's back, he tries to keep his tone light and not worried but it's getting harder to, he's never seen akutagawa like this before, the final straw is when atsushi see’s red in the vomit.
Tears pool in Akutagawa's eyes and after a few minutes his stomach finally seems to be empty, he practically collapses into Atsushi's lap barely conscious and shaking, blood slightly staining his lips, “it h-h-hurts” Akutagawa manages to say as he cries from pain and being emotional while sick.
“Ryunosuke, I know you hate it but I need to take you to the hospital” atsushi says wearily, he knows how akutagawa feels about hospitals but at this point he's out of options.
Akutagawa can't even fight back at this point. He's in too much pain and just wants this to end so he nods letting atsushi take him to the hospital to hopefully put an end to this.
Atsus gently picks up Akutagawa and takes him to the hospital which is only a 5 minute sprint from where they live. He brings Akutagawa straight to the emergency room, when the receptionist see’s Atsushi coming towards the front desk with an obviously sick and barely conscious Akutagawa in his arms she immediately gets alarmed. “Oh my what's going on with him? '' she asks urgently. “He just vomited some blood and is having trouble breathing and has a fever. He's really not doing well, please help him, "Atsushi says urgently. The receptionist nods and leads them back to a room.
Akutagawa's breathing is shallow and wheezy so the nurse immediately gives him oxygen before calling the doctor in. When the doctor comes in, the first thing he does after having atsushi list akutagawa's symptoms is listen to his lungs and get a chest x-ray. He then confirms Akutagawa has pneumonia and a bad case at that. Atsushi holds Akutagawa's hand and strokes his hair “you'll be alright, it's gonna be okay” Atsushi says to soothe Akutagawa who started to panic when the doctor said pneumonia. Akutagawa had, had pneumonia a few times before and almost died from it so he was understandably scared
“a-are you sure I'll be alright?” Akutagawa asks atsushi raspily. Atsushi smiles reassuringly and kisses his sick boyfriends forehead “I'm sure my love”
A week later akutagawa, almost fully recovered from the pneumonia, was sent home with
atsushi to finish resting.
