Work Text:

There is said to be a peculiar pair that lived on a hilltop.

No one in the village really knew what they did for a living, only that they loved their lives in blissful peace. Those that only did bother their peace were old, generous ladies and playful children. The woman they called the Little Witch, always answered the door with a smile which never faded. She is always pleasing, a sight for sore eyes. And despite the glimmering silver ring, she was always the one to open the door.

The townspeople had thought about her husband, what he did and how he took care of them. As any other kid, Mike assumed that he was sketchy or just a plain bad guy. The man never once came out of their comfortable home, never once had they seen what he looks like and Mike got curious. People that did have a glimpse of the man, say he was as if he was one with the shadows of their cottage. He glowered and was quiet at every visiter if one were to have entered their cozy cottage home. But that didn't stop little Mike from knowing who the man really was.

Really, it wasn't because the lady witch was pretty or anything . . .

But anyway, it was a Halloween night and along with his friends, Mike had planned for them to convince the lady to let them in their home and then search for the mysterious man.

They obviously had to have fun first, going from one house after another for candy to eat until the end of December. And once they had finally reached the last house up the hill, they decided to be brave and eliminate their plan.

They reached the hilltop after great difficulty and knocked on the wooden door with both fear and excitement, their hearts beating at rapid speed.

Again, not because of the beauty that they assumed was going to open the door.

Because what did meet them were a pair of dark, obsidian eyes, staring directly at their souls as if they could see every unforgivable deed that was owned by a man that stood several feet above them.

And all of a sudden, their plan had gone south. But then again, they see him now, right? Despite getting the opposite of what they had planned the night before. But just with those eyes, they cannot move, frozen like stone statues and are only to be left to endure their downfall.

Reality only came back when the lady witch had comically popped out from behind this god of death of a man.

"Oh, hello!" she said in a cheery voice, while also fixing her… costume. "Oh don't mind my husband here. He normally looks like this. He's just nervous, is all."

Nervousness and normal does not go well with the man who still trained his eyes on them. But upon feeling the touch of his wife, her hand on his waist, somehow, his obsidian eyes become less darker. Softer. Looking ar her like this makes him look younger than what they think how old the man is.

But he was just a kid so, what does he know?

"Anywho, you came for candy. Then, you shall receive candy!" She says in the most enthusiastic way a person can be possible and the man, now that they were noticing, is dressed as a vampire beside her is reaching out to the side for the vast pumpkin basket with loads of treats and starts dumping them to each of their baskets.

His friends, who had long forgotten their escaped doom, were overjoyed to have received so many. When the man's hand had gotten to his basket, he had looked at him funny before pulling away. He'd paused to look at him and here he thought he was the only one from his group that hadn't escaped his doom. Until he started speaking.

"Now that you've seen me, never bother to climb our fences again, understand?"

He said in a low and a bit of a threatening voice. Mike thought he had been sneaky enough though. Maybe he'd known what he was doing when he went up for his second attempt in climbing and had almost fallen down if it wasn't for that magic tree behind their house. He knew he didn't hit his head and dreamed about it! The man didn't seem quite bothered but he can't keep promises.

When they finally got away from their cottage, Mike couldn't just keep his thoughts at bay from what had transpired. one of his friends, Alex came to him as she might have noticed his thoughts.

"Are you ok, Mike?"

It took him a moment to respond as he was quite out of it, "Y-Yeah! Yeha, I'm all fine. Why?"

"Did that mean man said anything to you?"

"Nothing really, he just warned me not to climb their fences anymore…"

"I mean something interesting."

Well, that surely caught him off guard. "What do you mean by that?"

"Well, you look quite astonished right now and I just thought…"

Mike can't deny that he did feel astonished after all that but what he can't fathom is as to why he felt this way. Maybe these were just the after effects of a dumb idea and the thought of them almost dying tonight but that still wouldn't sum up as to why he wants to know more about this man.

Or maybe it was the fact that they weren't just a man and his wife. That maybe there was something more behind them? Something more that may change his life forever.

But that's another thought to dwell on for another time.

He's just a kid after all.

"Stop it, it's not funny."

He says finally after indulging himself with the hysterical laugh his wife had let out after the events of this whole week. He had finally told Luna what had happened and what had been bothering him during his time brewing tonics and other potions for the elderly that needed them.

"So, he has been the source of your migraines during dinner, yes?"

"Yes, he is." he responds, massaging the bridge of his nose. "I mean can you believe that even the willow helped the brat to get a peek of my office through that window?"

"What's wrong with that?"

Severus sighs. Of course she'd be more open about this. He also should be but, he's lived through the abusive side of the world, far too earlier than she had ever had.

"We have a peaceful life now, just as you wanted. It's my job to make it last." He says, try as he might to keep his feelings at bay. It's funny how after his biggest confession to the woman he loves, he's become more open than he was before. "I just want it to stay that way for you."

"How emotional of you, Severus." Luna starts to slowly walk towards him. "And to think it was all hidden under that menacing scowl you always have."

"As you said, I was born with it."

"I think it may have slipped my lips, my apologies."

They shared a little laugh over the joke and soon reverted back to the heavy atmosphere he had put themselves into. He always tended to do that. The dramatic side of him and she always brought them out for a second to make the conversation light hearted as she did just now. But as always, she also embraces this part of him. With that concept he grows strongly selfish for more which she doesn't mind as well.

"But, just so we're clear," she starts, fixing whatever ripple there is on his ridiculous attire. "We should both be handling this job. It isn't only your burden to bear, you know, I hope you didn't forget."

At that exact moment, he catches a glint of silver on one of her fingers and smiles at the memories that came rushing back. "No, I have not." he says, and brings her ringed finger to his lips.

"Now that's out of the way, what do you say I finally remove this ridiculous thing?"

At that, she's never looked more offended by his suggestion. "And have you looked more normal than the vampire they already think you are? I strongly decline!"

"I have indulged the children quite enough with this farce for too long."

"Oh, come off it! Just for a little more, yeah?"

He thinks he's turning into someone else. Because if he was the same man he was before laying eyes on the most wonderful and astonishing woman in the world, he would have declined this ridiculous act. But, he isn't. Not anymore at least. And somehow it feels like he could count how many times he's refused to disappoint her with just one of many words."

"Fine, just for a few more. And then after that can you please tell me where my haoris are?"

"Noted." she replies and skips her way to their small kitchen. "And don't worry, you look quite dashing anyway."

He sighs and looks at the mirror that hangs on the right side of the door. He doesn't agree with her but if she sees him as such, he can't really deny her of her dreams.

Merlin's beard, maybe he is turning into somebody else.
